Melo, unless he's here on the cheap, is a waste. There's only one ball and 5 places on the floor. The guy doesn't defend or rebound. We need more complete players, not guys that only excel in one facet of the game and neglect other facets.

Melo sounds like just the type of desperation move Gilbert and James would turn to. It would be fun to see it happen.

Why? To go to a team that has no chance of making the Finals? Sounds logical to me. But Kyrie will be the man, so congrats.

Oh yeah, Melo would be perfect for Cleveland. Just imagine the headlines.

"Melo goes 3-26 from the field as Cavs get swept by Celtics. Silent treatment from LeBron reaches the 2 week mark"

"Melo reportedly miserable in Cleveland - demands to be released. Looking into playing options in China, Malaysia, and Cambodia."

"Melo considering taking 2 week playing hiatus from Cavs trainwteck season to 'find himself '. Reportedly booked a room for 1 at Kalahari."

Trading a 25 year old star for 33 year old Melo with Lebron likely on the way out after the season would be an all-time dumb trade. So of course Cleveland is probably considering it.

Cleveland's media personalities are very weak right now. They are sop used to losing that they don't know how to do anything except suck up to players when they are winning. They should be hammering these guys. Lebron's a great basketball player with an average mind. Quit listening to him when it comes to strategy during the season or in the offseason.

I think the Cavs should send to the worst place possible ... trade him to Cincinnati ... Oh wait, they don't have a team ... then how about Sacramento ?

Out of his preferred destinations, Miami is the only one that really makes any sense for both Irving and the Cavs. Miami has Winslow and Adebayo. Those two + Dragic and their first rounder in '19 for Irving + ? rotation player is better than whatever the Spurs, Wolves and Knicks can do without a third team.

The Spurs don't have any assets. The Wolves aren't giving up KAT, and I'd imagine they'd balk giving away Wiggins on a rookie-scale deal. The Knicks would offer Carmelo (ETO option after this year), who's effectively a non-asset since he'd be out the door if LeBron leaves. At least their first rounders would have a lot more value than San Antonio's and Minnesota's. Probably also more valuable than any picks that would come from Miami.

As one executive has supposedly stated, somebody will offer "the Earth, the Moon and the stars" for him with his age and current remaining two-year deal. I'd think the 76ers, Lakers or Celtics could have him if they wanted, especially if they were willing to absorb a garbage contract like T.T. or J.R. Smith. The Sixers in particular seem like an ideal partner for that when they can move J.J. Redick's one-year expiring deal a few months into the season.

Perhaps the most interesting part of this is that Irving is apparently envious of John Wall, a player who he has a much better shoe deal than, and Damian Lillard, who's lucky to get past the first round of the playoffs. I'd imagine both of those guys are envious of Irving playing in the Finals three years running and getting to rapidly build his brand as a part of a championship-contending team.

The downfall of this team is going to be Gilbert not re-upping Griffin. Not so much for savvy moves to try to improve the team, but for the need to have someone who can manage the personality issues and needs presented by each of Gilbert, LeBron and Kyrie.

Kyrie for Cousins. Sign Rose.

Let GS deal with LeBron, Cousins, Love and Thompson.

Otherwise, to the Suns with some garbage for Bledsoe and Booker.

I'd love to have Cousins, but I seriously doubt the Pelicans are ready to bail on the Cousins/Davis pairing.

I'd just about guarantee that if a deal is done before the season starts it will be a three-way for Carmelo, Bledsoe and picks.

Not arguing that. He does pretty much nothing to make them equal or better than what they've been, and he does nothing to help them build into the future. He'd be just about the most useless headliner they could get in a deal.

The only reason to pull the trigger on that is if management is trying to appease LeBron. You get one of his boys (Melo), one of his clients (Bledsoe), and any pick from NYK will probably be decent since that team seems to be destined for mediocrity. Irving and Porzingis probably get them late-lottery or a low-playoff seed, if both stayed healthy.

IMO, probably about the best they could hope for that would actually help the team both win now and build going ahead would be if the Wolves were willing to send Wiggins back to Cleveland. Wiggins, Gorgui Dieng (rim protection) and Jeff Teague (not movable until December I believe) for Irving straight up if the money is close enough.

All three of those guys would be starters in Cleveland and would bring J.R. and Tristan off the bench.

True. In Cleveland's defense, if Kyrie is jealous of Wall & Lillard after 3 straight trips to the finals, a title that he sealed with one of the NBA's all-time shots, and the opportunity to play alongside one of the 5 greatest players ever, then that probably doesn't speak too highly of him.

There's a chance this ends up being more similar to Marbury ditching Garnett than Kobe ditching Shaq.
