Heath D-3 District Rankings (Off-Season #2)

I’ve started moving wrestlers around from the weights that they wrestled last year. Some of the weight shifts are based off of where the wrestlers have been competing in the off-season, some is based off of people sending me line-ups. Some of the changes are based off of how the wrestlers have grown over the last few years. A lot of the movement is pure guesswork.
I welcome any insight into where wrestlers will or may be competing next season, because I know that I’m going to be way off on many wrestlers, especially this time of year.

I paired the freshmen with the school that they were listed at on the Yappi thread about middle school state placers. If there was more than one possible school listed, I took a guess.
If there are any freshmen listed at the wrong school, feel free to let me know. Also, if there are any other wrestlers who have transferred, decided not to wrestle next year, or graduated (but I mistakenly left them in the rankings), please let me know.

I love doing these rankings, but as it has been pointed out before, they are just for fun. To any wrestlers who read these and feel that they are ranked too low, you may be right.
I am bound to be wrong on many of the rankings, but fortunately they have absolutely no impact on how anyone will finish at any tournament this season or any other year.

* = unsure about participation or availability

106-
1. Collin Yinger- Nelsonville-York (5th, 4th state)
2. Jon Polley- Pleasant (6th district)
3. Kaleb McFee- W. Muskingum
4. Joseph Savage- Toronto
5. Griffen Stephen- Barnesville
6. Corey Keim- Tusky Valley
7. Nate Loot- Steubenville C.C.
8. Chris Heavener- River

McFee and Stephen were a few promising incoming freshman, and I welcome any additional names, especially at this weight which always has an influx of freshmen.

113-
1. Lucian Brink- Coshocton (2nd state)
2. Joshua Proper- Delaware Christian (SQ)
3. Alex Overly- Shenandoah (SQ)
4. Branden Parsons- Caldwell (5th district)
5. Jake Mathews- Steubenville C.C.*
6. Zackry Smalley- Bellaire
7. Carter Wells- Barnesville
8. Dale Brocwell- Northmor

I’m not sure if Mathews will return this coming season. He wrestled in the 2016-2017 season, and I thought I saw a weight in from him last year, but I didn’t find any results.

120-
1. Gavin Weaver- Newcomerstown (5th state)
2. Marshal Niswonger- Caldwell (SQ)
3. Austin Guthrie- Coshocton (7th state)
4. Joseph Bonfini- Bellaire (5th district)
5. Chase Ward- Martins Ferry (6th district)
6. Aiden Aiello- Ready
7. Derick Tullis- Grandview Hts.
8. Caedden Yager- Barnesville

Weaver jumped from 2-2 at the district tournament as a freshman to 4-2 at the state tournament as a sophomore. He’ll make a push for a state finals appearance in 2019 if he continues on this trajectory.

126-
1. Brian Palmer- Buckeye Local (6th state)
2. Hayden Johnson- (Richmond) Edison (SQ)
3. Austen Amens- Northmor
4. Carson Rupe- Crooksville
5. Brayden Rittenhouse- W. Muskingum
6. Corey Phillips- Coshocton (6th district)
7. Kian Belt- Liberty U.
8. Joseph Rennicker- Fairbanks

Palmer finished 6th at Barnesville to start last year. He finished 6th at the state tournament to end the season.

132-
1. Logan Hursey- Newcomerstown (6th state)
2. C.J. Smith- Pleasant (3rd middle school state)
3. Gavin Ramos- Northmor (8th state)
4. Joey Buckland- West Jefferson (SQ)
5. Ryley Crall- Union Local (5th district 2017)
6. Bryce Farrabee- Barnesville
7. Garrett Dozier- Toronto
8. Hayden Pacha- N. Union

I’ve seen a few freestyle results where Buckland wrestled up at 138, so he may wind up wrestling there during the season.

138-
1. Klay Reeves- (Johnstown) Northridge (2nd, 8th, 8th state)
2. Donnell Marshall- Centerburg (6th district)
3. Andrew Knaup- W. Muskingum*
4. Blake Barrick- Coshocton (SQ)
5. Niko Christo- Northmor (7th middle school state)
6. J.T. Brown- Newark Cath.
7. Reece Wolf- Pleasant
8. Haden Offenberger- Waterford (5th district)

Reeves has been wrestling up as high as 145 in some of the off-season freestyle tournaments, so I’d guess that he’s either here or at 145.

145-
1. Mason Kuneff- Bridgeport (SQ)
2. Carter Winegarner- W. Muskingum (8th state)
3. Noah Inboden- Nelsonville-York (SQ, 8th state 2017)
4. Collin Wiley- Caldwell (SQ)
5. David Chapman- Crooksville (6th district)
6. Brady Crum- Union Local (5th district)
7. Dylan Glotfeldy- Barnesville
8. Jacob Newell- Sandy Valley

Inboden has wrestled 152 in freestyle, though I don’t know if he’s cutting any weight in the off-season.

152-
1. Tony Martinez- Northmor (5th district)
2. Andrew Halko- Ready (SQ)
3. Andrew McFee- W. Muskingum (SQ)
4. Josh Patterson- Ridgedale (6th district)
5. Cameron Woods- Barnesville
6. Hunter Gilbert- Belpre (6th district 2017)
7. Cody Albaugh- Bellaire
8. Jordan Dalby- Union Local

I’m guessing that Martinez wrestles this weight after competing at 160 in the post season last year. He wrestled between 145 and 160 last year but bumped up for the post season with the Beckers occupying the lower two weights.

160-
1. Conor Becker- Northmor (3rd state)
2. Billy Luft- Newark Catholic (6th state)
3. Coltin Meek- Newcomerstown (SQ)
4. Andy Williamson- Mt. Gilead (6th district)
5. Tabor Lackey- Trimble (3rd middle school state)
6. Cameron Blair- Sandy Valley
7. Adrian Abolins- Liberty Union
8. Gavin Baisden- Pleasant

Becker wrestled his first two years at 145 and 152, so I’m guessing that he opts for this weight where he would likely be considered the preseason state title favorite.

170-
1. Santino Kusic- Bridgeport (4th state)
2. Brylan Clouse- Barnesville (5th district 2017, 6th district 2016)
3. Reece Franks- Sandy Valley (6th district)
4. Michael Herrmann- Steubenville C.C.
5. Charlie Smith- Buckeye Local
6. Bryce Keckley- W. Jefferson (4th middle school state)
7. Noah Love- Tusky Valley
8. Jonah Bibler- Pleasant (8th middle school state)

Middle school state placers Keckley and Bibler could make an immediate impact on this district climate. One or both could potentially qualify for state much like Snyder did last year as a freshman.

182-
1. Ethan Pappas- (Richmond) Edison (SQ)
2. Tristan Bush- Johnstown-Monroe (5th district)
3. Richard McFarland- Martins Ferry (SQ)
4. Chris Cox-Wilson- N. Union (SQ)
5. Joshua Newell- Sandy Valley (6th district)
6. Jarrett Deaton- Bridgeport
7. Justin Jackson- Barnesville
8. Kobe Barnett- Liberty Union

I’m guessing that McFarland and Dobson continue to grow after each jumping up two weights from 2017 to 2018.

195-
1. Hudson Jump- Grandview Hts. (1st, 5th, 7th state)
2. Drake Dobson- Martins Ferry (SQ)
3. Colt Snyder- Nelsonville-York (SQ)
4. Mason Wiley- Caldwell (5th district)
5. Zac Cesario- Buckeye Local (6th district)
6. Jordan Sanders- Newcomerstown
7. Nathan Bomboris- Union Local
8. Casey Fleahman- Liberty U.

Snyder started last year at 195 before cutting down to 182 late in the year. I’m guessing that he’ll grow into 195 this year.

220-
1. Donovan McCollister- Nelsonville-York (5th state)
2. River Pappas- (Richmond) Edison (6th district 2017)*
3. Hunter Braithwaite- W. Jefferson (SQ)
4. Dalton Rice- Shenandoah
5. Ian Joyce- Trimble (5th district)
6. Zack Meade- Barnesville
7. Sam Hardenberg- Ready
8. Dylan Wilson- Danville

McCollister split two bouts with Noah Price last season, defeating him 5-4 in the finals at Lima C.C.
Price will be the highest returning placer from last year’s state tournament bracket.

285-
1. Dylan Thompson- N. Union (SQ)
2. Liam Kirkpatrick- Newark Cath. (5th district)
3. Sheldon Harter- W. Muskingum (6th district)
4. Easton Hitchens- Shenandoah
5. Bailey Garren- Ready
6. Dakota Ross- Belpre
7. Zach George- (Johnstown) Northridge
8. Chet Lohr- W. Jefferson

Thompson wrestled most of last year at heavyweight before cutting down to 220, so we could see a similar situation in 2019.

Teams:
1. Northmor
2. West Muskingum
3. Barnesville
4. Nelsonville-York
5. Newcomerstown
6. Coshocton
7. (Richmond) Edison
8. Caldwell

Northmor looks like they could seize the district title back from Nelsonville-York this season.
The addition of middle school state placer Christo to a line-up that includes state placers Becker and Ramos, as well as state alternate Martinez could put them back over the top as the district favorites.

A special thanks to Boro Fan for all the insight into the weights of the wrestlers, Baum’s Page, Inside the Circle, the OVAC wrestling website, and Jake’s Wrestling for all of the results that they provide, and to any of the other wrestling nerds that actually read these things.

I'm pretty sure as of right now the plan at SV is Blair, Franks, and Josh Newell to go 152, 160, & 170. Same weights as last season.
