Claymont D-2 District Rankings (Off-Season #2)

Iíve started moving wrestlers around from the weights that they wrestled last year. Some of the weight shifts are based off of where the wrestlers have been competing in the off-season, some is based off of people sending me line-ups. Some of the changes are based off of how the wrestlers have grown over the last few years. A lot of the movement is pure guesswork.
I welcome any insight into where wrestlers will or may be competing next season, because I know that Iím going to be way off on many wrestlers, especially this time of year.

I paired the freshmen with the school that they were listed at on the Yappi thread about middle school state placers. If there was more than one possible school listed, I took a guess.
If there are any freshmen listed at the wrong school, feel free to let me know. Also, if there are any other wrestlers who have transferred, decided not to wrestle next year, or graduated (but I mistakenly left them in the rankings), please let me know.

I love doing these rankings, but as it has been pointed out before, they are just for fun. To any wrestlers who read these and feel that they are ranked too low, you may be right.
I am bound to be wrong on many of the rankings, but fortunately they have absolutely no impact on how anyone will finish at any tournament this season or any other year.

* = unsure about participation or availability

1. Howard Williams- E. Liverpool (SQ)
2. Alijah Stevens- Licking Valley (6th middle school state)
3. Drake Cerny- River Valley (2nd middle school state 2017)
4. Bryce Schott- (Sparta) Highland
5. Alexander Crane- Sheridan
6. Thayne Mahaffey- Claymont
7. Tyler Ratliff- New Lexington
8. Griffin Chmiel- Alexander

Schott has wrestled 113 in freestyle over the summer, so he may wind up at that weight. Stevens, Cerny, Crane, Mahaffey, and Ratliff are all freshmen this year. Iím not sure about Cerny. He was a middle school state finalist at 78-pounds in 2017, but I donít believe that he participated last season.

1. Cael Woods- West Holmes (3rd, 8th state)
2. Michael Petrella- Bishop Hartley (7th state)
3. Koen Kish- St. Clairsville (5th district)
4. Aaron Ferguson- Steubenville*
5. Blake Sheppard- New Lexington (5th district)
6. Mark Emmerling- Beaver Local (5th middle school state)
7. Domanick Speelman- Carrollton (5th middle school state)
8. Jacob Norris- Minerva

Woods and Petrella have both wrestled 113 during the freestyle season. Kish has also wrestled a couple folkstyle tournaments at 113, though I believe there were weight allowances at both events.

1. Cole McComas- Beaver Local (2nd, 2nd state)
2. Peyten Kellar- Warren (5th state)
3. Tyler Masters- West Holmes (6th state)
4. Tyler Muldrew- Steubenville (SQ)
5. Jarrett Warrington- Claymont (SQ 2017)
6. Brandon Brown- Carrollton (SQ)
7. Jalin Goodman- Marion-Franklin (6th district)
8. Ethan Szanati- Buckeye Valley

Kellar has been wrestling this weight over the off-season, while McComas has generally been at 126.
Iím not sure if Muldrew will go 120 again, but Blasko wrestled up at 132 and Minella was at 126 last year, so Iíll have to wait and see how they all fit in.

1. Logan Ours- Beaver Local (1st middle school state)
2. Brady OíConnor- Indian Valley (6th state)
3. Peyton Blasko- Steubenville (7th state)
4. Terry Gatrell- Meadowbrook (5th district, 5th district 2017, 6th district 2016)
5. Robbie Hoopes- Carrollton (6th district)
6. Dominic Davis- London
7. Shaun Pletcher- Philo
8. Tucker Kaufman- West Holmes (8th middle school state 2017)

Blasko wrestled 132 at the Disney Duels which had a 5 pound weight allowance, so itís possible he ends up higher than this weight.

1. Dalton Burcher- Indian Valley (SQ, 8th state 2016)
2. Douglas Terry- Granville (SQ)
3. Zane Minella- Steubenville
4. Nolan Smith- Minerva (6th district)
5. Devon Salsberry- Beaver Local
6. Crae Muzykoski- Licking Valley
7. Walker Uhl- West Holmes (5th district)
8. Devan Factor- Sheridan

I have seen Terry, Factor, and Salsberry at 138 during the off-season, so Iíll have to see if they stay up at that weight once the season begins.

1. Skyler Lasure- Beaver Local (4th, 7th state)
2. Jacson Muldrew- Steubenville (7th, 5th state)
3. Adam Lenhoff- Indian Valley (SQ)
4. Ethan Mueller- Minerva (SQ)
5. Chris Jackson- Athens
6. Christian Miller- (Sparta) Highland
7. Tristan Duffey- Warren
8. Nick Ranalli- Sheridan

Muldrew and Lasure have been at this weight during the off-season. Mueller and Lenhoff have wrestled as high as 152, so they may wind up above this weight.

1. Anthony Rice- Steubenville (7th, 4th state)
2. Dylan Dodson- Licking Valley (SQ)
3. Antwaun Burns- London (2nd middle school state)
4. Jared Wright- Beaver Local (SQ)
5. Evan Hertel- Minerva (6th district)
6. Simon Allen- New Lexington
7. Jordan Barnett- Sheridan
8. Bill Wallace- Athens

Burns wrestled at this weight for the freestyle state tournament. Rice wrestled up at 152 for the Disney Duels (where there was a 5 pound weight allowance), so he may be higher than 145.

1. Ben Pasiuk- Carrollton (2nd, 2nd, 2nd state)
2. Beau Smith- Beaver Local (4th state)
3. Hayden Danals- River Valley (5th district)
4. Liam Kellar- Warren
5. Zach Walsh- Granville (6th district)
6. Mitch Wukelic- Indian Creek
7. Keegan Moran- Hartley
8. Romeo Gabriel- Hamilton Twp.

Iíve seen Smith at both 152 (with a weight allowance) and 160 during the off-season, while teammates Wright has also been at 152.
Smith started last year at 152 while Wright was at 145. They eventually flip-flopped when Smith cut to 145.

1. Brandon Daniels- Carrollton (5th state)
2. Brenden Severs- Beaver Local (1st middle school state)
3. Joey Petrella- Hartley (6th district)
4. Layne Talbot- New Lexington
5. Darian Huff- London
6. Cruz Alexander- W. Holmes
7. Zach Love- Indian Valley
8. Xeke Hoffman- Amanda-Clearcreek*

Severs and Petrella have both been wrestling at this weight during the off-season.

1. Wesley Pauley- Morgan (8th state)
2. Hayden McGee- Maysville (SQ)
3. Brady Oberdier- Warren (SQ)
4. Jake Armstrong- Indian Valley (5th district)
5. Logan Krulik- Beaver Local (6th district)
6. Brice Parks- Jackson
7. Ryan Kelley- (Sparta) Highland
8. Tyler Shuler- Athens

Krulik has been wrestling at this weight during the off-season. Layne Talbot has also been here, though I have him ranked at 160 for the time being.

1. Keegan Vanmeter- Granville (SQ)
2. David Tuttle- Steubenville (8th state)
3. Josh Baldridge- West Holmes (SQ)
4. Eric Stillion- John Glenn (6th district)
5. Logan Wilson- Indian Creek
6. Mitchell Miracle- River Valley (SQ 2017)*
7. Chris Jackson- Athens (5th middle school state)
8. Christian Lerussi- Beaver Local

Tuttle has wrestled at 182 during the off-season.
Iím not sure how big Miracle will be, missing most of last year after bumping up from 132 to 170 between his sophomore and junior seasons.

1. Griffin Rathburn- Hartley (8th state)
2. Alex Carrothers- Carrollton (SQ)
3. Cody Neece- Sheridan (SQ)
4. Brodey Parsons- Indian Valley (SQ)
5. Sam Lowe- Beaver Local (6th district)
6. Derek Witsberger- St. Clairsville
7. Dalton Cunningham- River View (5th district)
8. Stephen Baldridge- West Holmes

Rathburn and Lowe have both wrestled here at 195 during the off-season.

1. Owen Loughman- Sheridan (SQ)
2. Kole Aubiel- Claymont (SQ)
3. Nate Jackson- Hartley (5th district)
4. Keith Bodnar- Steubenville (5th district)
5. Daniel Wirth- Beaver Local (6th district)
6. Skylor Wooley- E. Liverpool
7. Josh Croft- Harrison Central
8. Justice McCamick- St. Clairsville

I bumped Bodnar up to this weight after he jumped from 170 to 195 between his freshman and sophomore years. However, thatís just a guess, and itís possible that he stays put at 195.

1. Cole Potts- Col. DeSales (5th district)
2. Dane Black- Lakewood
3. Tyler Congrove- Vinton Co.
4. Owen Kempf- River View
5. Daquine Petty- South
6. Jarrett Burress- Minerva
7. Trey Delguzzo- St. Clairsville
8. James Baily- Marion-Franklin

I bumped Burress up to heavyweight after he wrestled here for the freestyle state tournament. He may eventually drop back down to 220 once the season starts, but heíll have the option of either weight with state placer Kuttler graduating.

1. Beaver Local
2. Steubenville
3. Carrollton
4. Indian Valley
5. West Holmes
6. Bishop Hartley
7. Sheridan
8. Warren

Beaver Local looks like the district title favorite heading into the season, though Steubenville and Carrollton will certainly have something to say something about it before all is said and done. I wonder if former middle school state placer Garrett Givens will return to Beaver Local this season. Among his wins as a sophomore was a pin over 2018 state placer Parker Meaney and an 11-7 win over 2018 state placer Lyle Clark.
Givens would be a state qualification threat at either 220 or heavyweight.

A special thanks to Boro Fan for all the insight into the weights of the wrestlers, Baumís Page, the OVAC website, Inside the Circle, and Jakeís Wrestling for all of the results that they provide, and to any of the other wrestling nerds that actually read these things.

I have heard from multiple people that Givens from Beaver Local will be back. If that is true, that's big for Beaver Local and makes their lineup even more potent. The 220 from last year (Wirth) was a big boy. I can't imagine he got any smaller so I bet he moves to HWT and Givens 220. We'll see come November/December if rumors are true and where they fall if so.

Steubenville will be tough. With both Muldrew's, Rice, Blasko, Tuttle, and Minella coming back as well as Ferguson off injury, they have some good point scorers.

Carrollton also has some big guns.

Anxious for wrestling season!

Great write up Max!

Thanks for the positive feedback, and the line-up edits. I'll remove Mahaffey from the next set of rankings and insert Givens.
