Sam Bush 4:48.71

Bush a wonderful solo 4:48.71 1600 at the ECC championships. Seems just a matter of time(and competition) before she takes down Annie Heffernan's 4:48.39 city record.

http://live.finishtiming.com/#/resul.../event/9/Final

Bush also turned in a 10:39.88 time trial in the 3200, and helped Turpin to an impressive 9:11.75 4x800 win Wednesday.

She's rolling right now.

Nice run. Not unexpected after her indoor season. Nice job to her and those training her.

CJ Robinson's 4:48.3 MILE time (converted 4:46.6 1600m) is living on borrowed time, IMHO. I hope Samantha Bush or one of the other fast ladies this spring is able to take down both records in one fell swoop.

They can't take down the mile if they do not compete at that distance.

I understand that. I'm thinking of another run at the mile record at Nationals in June. Best place to do it.

NC State is getting a good one. The strong Ohio to NC State connection continues.

I believe that's a road mile so would be ineligible for the city record. Unfortunately the New Balance meet is the same weekend this year.

Yes, it will be run on the streets of Boston. What does JAVMAN say. Should it count?

Separate record...all together (in unison with the movie "Airplane" parody ).

They're going to finish on the track and cross the same finish line as the 100 yard dash people. That should be worth something

You're a funny guy!

I ran a few road races like that (The final 600m of the Athens Marathon took place on OU's track), but it wasn't quite enough to convince me to consider those performances as part of my track racing career.

The irony here is that Shirley lived next door to me growing up in Monfort Heights and because she was a tomboy, she and I were best friends and played together daily.

Bush torches Heffernan's Cincy, as well as the Regional, 1600 record, running a winning 4:47.23 after a terrific duel with Emma Bucher of Centerville.

http://live.finishtiming.com/index.h...event/11/Final

Will she have sub-4:45 in her at State next week?

Would be cool if she can run faster than 4:46.7, which is what Connie Jo Robinson's long-time 1982 mile record would convert to for 1600m! That would put an end to all speculation as to the fastest "miler" in the city, even though CJ's mile record can only be broken by a full mile run.

She’ll have to be in fantastic form to put enough space between herself and Howell in order to win. It should be fun to watch!

Here is a great picture of Bush and Bucher battling it out on the way to Bush's new record time. Mandatory photo credit - Geoff Balnkenship for the Enquirer http://www.swotccca.com/Documents/Ci...1600%20(7).pdf

Howell went 5:01/2:09 double Friday. I believe her PR is 4:43.25.

That race on Friday looked like a typical men's indoor Big Ten mile. They jogged the first two laps. I don't remember Howell's 800 split, but I would bet it was ~2:40. I wouldn't read anything into anyone's capabilities from the times in that race.

That time was from 2 years ago. After running that her sophomore year at state I thought she would be a 4:35 girl by now. But she has racked up 2 outdoor 1600 state titles along with her runnerup freshmen year. And an indoor title. And a state xc runner up. In XC she went 5-3-2-11.

A remarkable racer. She truly has another gear when it comes to big races.

Where is she going to college? With the right program, she should contend for titles right away.

I watched the video of the R4 1600m and there is no question Bucher pushed Bush to a new regional and city record time

Howell comes thru in 4:45 for the win after dropping the hammer on the last lap - 65.63 seconds! Bush in 2nd with 4:48.

After a ton of sub-5 girls coming in, only 5 get under that mark. Looks like some engines were spent a few weeks too early.

She's got the "go to" motor that the others don't. Leg speed.

Yep, superior 400m legs under Ms. Howell's engine. SPEED. Held off the pace in the first 400m then buries them in the 2nd lap. Smart.
