Tre Tucker

Damn shame they did not have a wind gauge at Woodridge. 10.41 is damn fast.

Tre Tucker is gonna be regional champion in the long jump. Then Coventry's Jimmy Painter and Austin Hinzman are gonna get 2nd and 3rd. You heard it from here first.

There was a slight headwind all day. The weather history at Underground Weather shows a NE wind of ~9-10 mph. The track sits in a low area. I don't think it was that strong at the track, but what was there was a head wind.

Unfortunately for him, in the world of track & field statistics no wind gauge = wind-aided.

Are you making this up?

I've never heard that "not wind legal" is equivalent to "wind aided".

Mr. Slippery will become famous soon enough
I was going to mention this performance a few days ago, but I knew what the reaction would be.

I was there, too. Tucker was definitely not being aided by any wind, but I get what JAV is saying in that the performance has about as much merit for state record purposes as a wind-aided performance. No wind gauge = not eligible for major records. To Jeff Howard's credit as the co-announcer of the meet, he immediately acknowledged the fact that Tucker's time would not count as a state record since there was no wind gauge. Howard stated that it was a fast time and that Tucker is clearly well-positioned to perform well in the tournament or something like that.

Tucker is fast, but FWIW, by the end of the meet, I was consistently producing hand times for my athletes that were slower than the FAT times that were being posted. IIRC, Woodridge uses Eagle Eye as its FAT package. Psycho_dad could tell you more since he timed the meet.

I had Tucker at 10.22 on my watch standing at the finish line. 1 of his coaches nearby had him at 10.27. I'm a decent hand timer, but I'm not good enough that I'd be less than .2 sec. on a 100m dash while standing at the finish line.

Once again though, the bottom line though is that Tucker is fast! He's rather handy at the long jump, too. It was a treat to watch him perform on Saturday.

Hope the kid is able to reproduce such a fast reading under legal circumstances with a wind gauge present & recording.

Also, State Record in a strictly HS race is Saine's 10.38 (+1.6) from the Don Mitchell/Roosvelt Memorial on 6 May 2006.

All-time best is a triplet of 10.38 clockings by Jonathan Burrell in 1993 at the USATF Jr. & Pan-Am Jr. meets. The one at the USTAF Jr. was with a 3.0 mps HEADWIND!

I like his chances. In my perfect world he runs track in the spring and that Coach Fickel at UC encourages it.

Interesting that you mention Coach Fickel. He is related to a well-known former Ursuline Academy track & field standout of the past.

Can anyone name the connection? Anyone?

Tre was probably the most dynamic football player in Ohio the last 2 years. He is a beast on the track and everyone that knows him will tell you that if he kept wrestling in highschool he would have probably won a few state championships on the mat as well. He was as talented on the mat as his cousins Jordan and Jacob Decatur. He will do big things at Cincinnati.

Marquel Parks

I suspect a lot of observers of the PAC 7 would argue Orrville's Marquel Parks was the more dynamic football player this past year over Tre Tucker. This is not to take anything away from Tre in any sport. His football exploits and track talent are beyond question. But it is also testament to how crazy good Parks was. They both should have brilliant careers going forward, Tucker at Cincy and Parks during his final 2 years of high school.

The PAC 7 had 3 Division 1 football players last fall. Tucker, Parks and Wright are all worth the price of admission. If Parks can keep himself out of bad situations he has a chance to be one of the best ever.

Agreed. Not aware of any conference at any level in Ohio that had 3 backs/skills guys better than they were, and two of them return.

Tucker wrapped up his high school years with a trifecta taking the 100, 200 and the long jump. I've watched him developing since 7th grade when he came to CVCA. I can tell you that he is extremely gifted but he puts in a tremendous amount of work to get where he is. Literally the hardest worker in the weight room all the time. My son has played football with him and is a year behind him and he has been a great team mate and friend to him. He would even show up after track practice to support his buddies who played Lacrosse and would stay the entire game cheering them on. He finished well. Good luck at UC
