It may be a state record but it is not a Cincinnati city record

Don't be a spoil sport. They set a state record. How about "Congrats!"

I'm sure Lancermania didn't mean any slight in noting such. Tournament records are just that...in tournament.

Congrats to all the winners & participants in this year's state tournament!

I was trying to get them stirred up, so they would take a 4 x 100m relay team to the Nationals and take down Withrow's city record of 45.58 set at nationals. They are very close now, close enough to take it down in North Carolina. That Withrow team ran 46.53 to win state in 2009.

It's not just a tournament record. It's the all-time OHSAA record.

Yes...OHSAA regular season record, but not the all-time best by a single HS team. Cincinnati Withrow's 2009 team ran 45.58 at Nationals for 2nd place there. They were the 5th fastest time in the nation that year, and Bishop Hartley's was the 9th fastest with their 45.98 clocking.

I just did a once-thru view, and the listed Girls' Division I 100mH record is soooooooo WRONG as to be a joke! Don't they even check their own records?

2000 - 13.64 - Dalanda Jackson (Shaker Heights) - 1st at State D1

https://ohsaa.org/Portals/0/Sports/T...rls/2000-g.pdf

As I was involved in this race as a coach, I remember it well.

I am aware of that. But you called it a tournament record. I'm just clarifying it was more than just a "tournament" record.

It's worth noting that not every team can compete beyond the state meet for various reasons - injury, financial, scheduling conflicts. etc. So the OHSAA records have great value.

Here are the 2009 results at the NON. Withrow was second in the 4 x 100 relay at that meet. https://www.nationalscholastic.org/f...ON_results.htm. Deadline to register for this year's meet is Monday June 10th, so East could go if they wanted to.

The record listed was the Division III record until last week. I suspect when they were updating the D3 list somehow the record that was broken was accidentally inserted into the DI list

We can debate about the relative value of OHSAA's records, but yes, I agree (and I think we can all agree) that they have value. My contention with OHSAA, along with the NFHS, goes back to the decades where those organizations openly worked against HS athletes regarding their participation and coaching in out-of-season meets. NFHS and its member organizations began working against HS athletes in the 1920s when they began to ban athletes from competing in non-scholastic opportunities whether it be in-season or out-of-season. Those policies led to the end of the great university-based scholastic meets of the 1900-1933 era, including that of the huge Chicago Interscholastic meet where Jesse Owens set his famed 9.4/20.7 records in the last meet there in 1933.

Thanks for the update. As both you and I know all-too-well, keeping track of those pesky little details is important. That's one of the reasons my spreadsheets contain as much relevant information as possible.

Nice catch on that one, Lancermania.

Bottom line is the vast majority of state champions end their season at the state meet. The all-time state records would undoubtedly be far different if every state champ and in-season state record holder had gone on to compete in post-season meets.

Agreed. Such a shame they stop after the state meet.

Here they are friends for life. The team that set three records: stadium, state meet, and OHSAA DI. Mandatory photo credit Coach Rodney Heath who is actively considering to showcase the girls at Nationals when they are that good. Can they get the one record that eluded them yesterday. I wish them well. Click on the link below.

The only concern would be Kaylyn Heath's health status, but if she's at least as good as she was heading into the state meet they should definitely go to North Carolina. The two week break will certainly help in that regard

I'd actually like to see them run the 4x200 with Heath and Clark - which they didnt do at all in the tournament and still ran 1:39.2 - more than the 4x100.

Yes, Head Coach Rodney Heath of Lakota East is same person who played CB for the Cincinnati Bengals for two years from 1999-2001. Besides being the head track coach at East, he also coaches football and is a personal sprint trainer. He can be seen on WLWT Sports Rock and WCPO Sports of All Sorts on Sunday nights.

Yes, Lakota East girls will be at Nationals in North Carolina. They could conceivably run both the 4 x 200 relay and the 4 x 100 relay. I could be wrong but it looks like the 4 x 200 is a timed final with no qualifying round. That race is Saturday morning. The 4 x 100 qualifying round is Saturday night and the 4 x 100 final is Sunday night.

I don't know if this has any effect on a record or better or worse conditions for times, but doesn't nationals break from lanes in the 4 X 200. I attended the meet a few years ago and remember how much more exciting that was from a competition angle than Ohio's sterile lanes all the way.

Last year they went back to the standard lanes all the way after several years of breaking after a lap.
