Old PCL

Has any of the Superintendents thought about going to the Old PCL minus Crestwood.

Get rid of Coventry, Ravenna, Norton, LCC and Cloverleaf.

Go with:
Streetsboro
Woodridge
Rootstown
Garretsville
Field
Mogadore
Southeast
POSSIBLY ADD Springfield or Waterloo

Won't work, Woodridge superintendent led the charge to break away. Streetsboro is committed as well. Mogadore Field a maybe. Waterloo won't join a league with Mogadore, that's why they bailed. But would be interesting if 4 county schools join MVAC, then guess what Waterloo would be in league again with Mogadore!!

Why won’t Waterloo join a conference with Mogadore?

They at 1 time tried to spearhead a move with Field to ask Mogadore to leave especially because of football. Never mind Waterloo usually owned the league in basketball....guess it something the couldn't get over. Unlike Rootstown who looked at it a challenge to get better. Would be ironic if MVAC would accept Rootstown and Mogadore as members, but you could probably count on Waterloo voting no.

Not sure if it is still on YouTube but the community meeting with the Waterloo BOE when discussing leaving the PTC was basically 30 min of the community asking good questions and the AD and BOE bashing Mogadore in response. Then 30 min of other stuff.

The best part was when the Waterloo AD (think that’s who it was) said that none of the starters on the Mogadore football team actually grew up in Mogadore, they are all Open Enrollment kids. Which is quite frankly a lie but whatever. It was comedy gold that their main reason for leaving was that “Mogadore had all these transfers just like a private school and we can’t compete with that”. Which was 0% based in facts.

Thats rather funny. I honestly thought mogadore didnt even have open enrollment. If they do, how many open enrollies does mogadore even have at the high school level? I cant imagine Mogadores school board would ever let it get anywhere near as high as Coventry has been doing. Mogadore has done a splendid job of developing its program off of in-district talent.

....and that AD for Waterloo is the EXACT reason for the wussification we see today. "We cant compete so they must be cheating- we will take out ball and go home" ( or to a conference they THOUGHT they can compete in)

Mogadore has about 10-15% of its enrollment as OE students. However, every single one of those students are in Mogadore by K-2nd grade. Each graduating class is a capacity for the school sizes by the time they are in 2nd. Mogadore strictly controls is graduating class sizes to keep optimum Teacher to Student ratios, plus the physics schools just aren’t big enough without more physical classes.

You can not get a into Mogadore as an OE student in JH or HS. It basically never happens.

I know a couple very good athletes from portage county schools in the last two
Years that tried to open enroll into Mogadore as freshman for football and wrestling. They got denied.

So there are OE kids on the football team, but they have played football all the way through youth to HS at Mogadore.

Just reading through all this, remembered that OHSAA now has competitive balance and they publish the OE numbers for the school. So just went through and pulled the numbers for the Portage county schools. It doesn't say when or how long they have been OE, just that they are OE. You can check any school.
https://ohsaa.org/Sports-Tournaments.../Football-2019

Mogadore
Base Enrollment 105, CB 28....so 26% is open enrollment at the HS.

Southeast
Base Enrollment 192, CB 5....3% open enrollment at the HS.

Garfield
Base Enrollment 168, CB 7....4% open enrollment at the HS.

Rootstown
Base Enrollment 159, CB 8....5% open enrollment at the HS.

Waterloo
Base Enrollment 165, CB 0....0% open enrollment at the HS.

Crestwood
Base Enrollment 183, CB 2....1% open enrollment at the HS.

And as was stated in previous post, Mogadore open enrolled students begin in elementary school. My grandson's class has approximately 60 students and that number has been consistent since kindergarten. It will remain that way through graduation I'm sure....so kids just don't magically appear in h.s. to play football. Remember Mogadore has pretty much owned the PCL since 1968, no open enrollment then and Waterloo still was no good in football. 1 title in 50 years..only when they were separate schools did Randolph have good football teams..Atwater good basketball.

Fascinating numbers here, surprised Mogadore is so high. Can talk all you want about kindergarten classes but end to the day these numbers are based on males grades 9 through 11 so its obvious Mogadore is drawing in outside athletes. I expected rest for the county to hoover around 10% open enrollment. If those 3 head to MVAC, where does that leave Mogadore - PAC?

This thread confuses me .... all I read is how stupid, bad, worthless Waterloo is ... then then next post says they should join back with this group of schools ... why? Why would you want them if they are so worthless? ... why would they come back to a group that has such a low opinion of them?
