OHSAA schools with no team OHSAA tournament championships

List of OHSAA teams who have never won a team OHSAA tournament title. I believe only Vandalia Butler came off the list this past school year, with their boys' bowling title. Two teams had come off list the previous school year, South Range (Baseball) and New Bremen (Girls Volleyball).

The team tennis tournament is not sanctioned by the OHSAA. My school won it in '99 and '00.

Some schools have come agonizingly close in recent years:

Massillon is the obvious one without going into any further detail.

Toledo Whitmer appeared in the DI state finals for football and basketball in the not-too-distant past.

West Lafayette Ridgewood suffered a 1-0 loss to Coldwater in the state baseball final last weekend.

Columbiana Crestview boys finished runner-up for the DIII track and field championship 2 weeks ago.

Smithville boys were DIII state runner-up in track and field the previous 2 years.

Kidron Central Christian boys were runner-up in soccer in 2016 and made it back to the state semis in 2017 as well as making 3 consecutive trips to the state semis a decade earlier.

Carrollton girls were state runner-up in track and field a couple years ago.

Massillon Tuslaw has been runner-up 3x in the state wrestling duals tournament.

Zoarville Tuscarawas Valley played for the volleyball state championship in 2016 and has made 10 trips to the state semifinals in the past 20 years, including the past 3 years in a row.

My school beat Van Wert in 2 OTs to win the state football title in '00.

Toledo Whitmer is an odd one to say the least. The largest school in NW Ohio. Good facilities IMO. But if its not football nor boys basketball Whitmer struggles for some reason.

The OP is factual; yet from this huge list there is only one school's supporters who appear regularly on Yappi to say this is fake news and they have 24 championships

Whitmer was the state runner-up in Division 1 track this spring, after winning a District championship and finishing as regional runner-ups.

Howland won the girls state championship golf match the year before it was an "officially recognized state championship". If my memory serves me correctly, the boys golf team came in 2nd to Upper Arlington by a few strokes on Upper Arlington's home course one year. The boys baseball team lost in the championship game way back when they were in was then called class B.
Pretty sure Youngstown Chaney played in a least 1 football state championship game.

More lies from my2sense. I have never seen a Massillon fan thump his chest about their championships. I have however seen multiple Massillon fans defend their championships when they were challenged. Two very different things. Please start telling the truth, thanks in advance.

Do you have record of OHSAA Schools with Tournament Titles that include student athletes from the most zip codes? That would be telling.

Yeah, Chaney made the finals in 97 I believe and lost to Columbus (Desales?) Late 4th quarter.

No, the majority of the schools in the state HAVE won a championship.

About 607 have won at least one and about 292 have not.

Considering that poster obviously, as Mack pointed out, has several screen names and has been kicked off this forum numerous times, he surely must know you are right. He didn't notice the screen name 23x? It is almost comical in a tragic sort of way, that the ultimate loon spouts Orwellian comments in a misguided defense of Massillon in such a prolific and matter-of -fact way. Nobody thinks he's right outside of his other screen names, who often show up to support each other. it's truly an unparalleled phenomena.

CHCA and Thornville Sheridan are both surprising.

I believe Fremont S.J./CC had four straight years of finishing as a golf runner-up.

I remember that one! Right in the middle of an amazing run by the WBL where Defiance won state in 1997, Celina got to the final 4 in 98, VW had that heartbreaker in the state title game in 2000 (plus Defiance had a team capable of winning again, losing to Buchtel in OT in the regional finals), the Ben Mauk led Kenton titles in 2001 and 2002, the shocking run by Kenton to the state finals in 2003, then St. Marys getting to the state finals in 2004.

What I remember most about that Van Wert team was they came so close to winning state, then week 2 in 2001 they came to Defiance and we played just one of the greatest defensive battles I've ever seen in high school football. Defiance won 7-6 on a last minute TD but that VW defense, led by future Buckeye Joel Penton, was just really good.

Kinda shocking Van Wert has never won a state title. They've had some real good talent through the years in basketball and then this years Final Four run in baseball. Plus they're the only WBL school really able to compete with Defiance in cross country. I'd think it's only a matter of time before they break through in something. Likely one of the CC teams.

How should schools that have consolidated be viewed when one of the schools included in their consolidation won state titles when they were on their own? I'm thinking of Buckeye Valley and the schools that went into that consolidation. In particular Bellpoint winning basketball titles in 1924 and 25.
