WOOF
JFK plays Stuebenville Catholic Central every year. That is a good 1 1/2 hr trip each way. We've played each other for quite some time. Traveling is nothing new to Eagles fans.

I mean lets face it, Catholics aren't good at football and basketball. These schools are far from "Catholic" on the playing field. I do not think it is limited to a perceived Catholic school.

I saw the JFK schedule posted in another thread and I did not SCC listed this year. For some reason, I thought they were supposed to play in week 5. Did something change this year?

If they take the "privates only" or "catholic only" labels off the league, then University and Lutheran East make perfect sense. Western Reserve Academy in Hudson is another option, but I'm not sure if they want to jump into a league. They've been playing NCL white teams for a while now I believe.
Elyria Catholic
Lutheran East
University School
Holy Name

Find a place for them in a "Football Preferred" three tier NCL. Is WRA part of OHSAA? If so, make a spot.

No, that was a reference to the politics previously played by some league members to keep SVSM out, not Yappi posters. Bennies had always been willing and able to take on all comers.

Lahrlam will build CVCA program. They can certainly compete in a lower tier NCL.

That shouldn't keep them out. I don't see that as a significant advantage over feeder schools with CYO programs. A small advantage but not one I would exclude them for.

They are still playing this season. Might be the last one though from what I am hearing. The SCC program is on life support.

EC left the NCL in 2011 and Holy Name just left the NCL in 2015. I doubt they are both eager to jump back in (even though they make perfect sense).

Lutheran East and US have been thrown around, but the catholic vs non-catholic debate for the league has been thrown around this thread. No one knows if the NCL is open to taking non-catholics (or non-privates in general). If so, they both make perfect sense.

WRA isn't part of OHSAA and their games dont count for points.

Thanks for posting this link, I had no idea Holy Name was apart of the Crown Conference at one point. I think it is safe to say that the Crown was the precursor for the NCL that lead to its formation.

Competitive Balance is out and here are the North Coast Blue Figures>

HOBAN
Male 10-12 Enrollment: 324
Competitive Balance #: 163
Total: 487
Div II

WALSH JESUIT
Male 10-12 Enrollment: 376
Competitive Balance #: 98
Total: 474
Div II

BENEDICTINE
Male 10-12 Enrollment: 261
Competitive Balance #: 149
Total: 410
Div II

PADUA
Male 10-12 Enrollment: 296
Competitive Balance #: 100
Total: 396
Div II

NDCL
Male 10-12 Enrollment: 254
Competitive Balance #: 52
Total: 306
Div III

LAKE CATHOLIC
Male 10-12 Enrollment: 203
Competitive Balance #: 45
Total: 248
Div IV

Some thoughts:

- Hoban has one of the biggest competitive balance numbers in the state regardless of Division, they are pulling in players from all over the place. Benny is not far behind.

- Benny and Padua kind of get lucky being placed in Div II. They are top heavy but all the suburban pubs that were dropped down from Div I into Div II seem to be struggling these days.

- Lake Catholic is shedding enrollment, it wasn't too long along ago they were solidly in Div II. Also that small competitive balance number means they are pulling in players from a limited number of feeder schools.

Hoban has the 5th largest CB # in the state, with Benny, Lasalle, SFS Toledo right there with them. TCC with a # of 195 off a 219 enrollment is probably the most unbalanced count, with Moeller and Ed's also really high. Most privates have high #'s relative to their enrollment, and I think having to count the kids that come from all these catholic grade schools that they've traditionally pulled from for years creates a bit of a misleading number. That said, it looks like most of these schools landed right where it feels like they should be.

Everybody on here keeps saying WRA Isnt in the OHSAA therefore no harbins. However I looked at Joe eitel and it appears the points count. Click on St Thomas Aquinas and count the points. They have 2 victories in 18 ( WRA And Trinity) and the level 1 and 2 points match up. So it appears WRA games count

WRA games count. They are treated like an out-of-state opponent.

My speculation on Lakeís struggling enrollment ...

1. Population shift - the former Lake communities of western Lake County are getting older
2. Catholic grade schools enrollment is getting smaller
3. NDCL is perceived as a better education and those with money in Mentor and Concord are making the trip south to Chardon. For $11k, Iíll drop the extra $3k and get a better education.
4. Football-wise, Lake has been something between OK and a non-factor for the last 5-7 years. And Mentor and Kirtland have both been pretty good lately
5. St. Ignatius and Gilmour are drawing kids
6. Nothing to do with VA-SJ, who draws from a different geography than Lake

Iíve heard that people that live in Euclid and nearby Wickliffe and Willowick that VASJ is drawing back those families to the school in where if it was 10 years ago, would of ended up at Lake 95% of the time. Now the tides have changed as VASJís enrollment continues to grow compared to what it was during the span of 2009-2014 when the VASJ closing rumors were swirling until the admissions director from the approval of then president Brian Menard to post in a local paper that the school wasnít going anywhere. Thatís what scared a lot of families away too as well as the unnecessary riff raft that also scared families away. The first two years 2009-10 and 2010-11 school year I saw first hand why. Iím glad the school is back to bringing in good enrollment numbers.

From the above target list I am surprised at the growth of Lutheran East, 111 is a solid number for school that has no absolutely no resources and is located in a transitioning area. Are they giving away their product or is there admissions getting more aggressive? They would be a good fit for the White and really drive home an urban feel to the Division. As always SVSM just makes too much sense to be part of this thing and why it has not happened yet is beyond me. Pick up Lutheran East & SVSM and one of the toughest basketball conferences in the state turns into arguably the premier one in the state.

I don't know everything about the lake situation but I believe they are actually pulling in good numbers for their classes the ratio of females to males had just gone out of whack getting into the 70-30 range. As a resident of Wickliffe I can tell you that there is large stigma with sending your kids private in that community and the amount of kids leaving the public school system has always been small. The other thing is some of their like teir 2 feeder schools have started to dry up. my grade school of Mt. Carmel/ Mater Dei was good for 10-15 kids there a year but now the classes are spreading out much more.

Feel free to correct me if I am wrong on any of these statements
