Tiger Woods finishes one shot behind Paul Casey at Valspar Championship

Quote:
A long victory drought on the PGA Tour finally ended Sunday, just not the one a raucous crowd was expecting.

Paul Casey closed with a 6-under 65 and won the Valspar Championship, but only after watching from the locker room as Tiger Woods came up one putt short of forcing a playoff. It was the closest Woods has come to winning in nearly five years.

Casey, who started the final round five shots behind, ran off three straight birdies early on the back nine at Innisbrook to take the lead, and he closed with four par saves to post at 10-under 274.

I hear he drowned his sorrows by going to Perkins in search of some pie.

Golf needs a shot in the arm and if Woods is in contention for titles again that can't hurt. Golf is suffering from too many clones right now.

Not sure if any golf event that uses paint cans as tee markers should matter. Talk to me when Tiger competes at a WGC event lat alone a major.

...ratings for Saturday this year over last year at the Valspar were up 148% for NBC and attendance on the course doubled! Like it or not, Tiger playing well is great for the game.

Yeah the course was so easy that Jordan just dropped out.

I guess golf's popularity is down, but I sure enjoy watching all the great players that play golf because of Tiger. I'd love to see him back on top and contending with some of the kids at majors.

His off course shenanigans aside there is nothing more exciting then watching Tiger when he is at the top of his game. He most likely will never be as good as he once was but even at 80%-90% he brings an element to the game that is a joy to watch. What I was always impressed with the earlier Tiger was his competitiveness and how he was never really out of a tournament because of the way he could string birdies together or save a par by making awesome golf shots. Too often today the better golfers seem to choke under the pressure.

It was fun to watch. Got goosebumps when he sank that 40 footer on 17 to pull within one

My only interest in golf regarding T.Woods...

I'd pay a Duke Brothers dollar (I.E. Trading Places) to see his ex chase him around the
course with 'Niblick' in hand!

Niblick=9-Iron

No doubt about it. I hope he continues to play well in every event. However, he can win all the Honda Classics he wants, but I don't want him to threaten Jack Nicklaus' record for most majors won. I'd like to see his record stand forever.

Actions have consequences and his had major, major consequences. Regarding the Duke Brothers dollar, his ex did chase him though I don't know if it was with a niblick. I am thinking mashie - as in smashie.

That said, I hope he does well in his career and, more so, wish him good (mental as well as physical) health. Would welcome him to Sedgefield (Greensboro) this year. As a short Donald Ross course, he could win there.
