If X beats DePaul and wins their first BE tourney game, they are pretty much a lock for a 1 seed, which would be incredible.
As it should. The Conference Tournament should really only affect a team one seed line based on an early exit or a 3-4 day run to win it. Only chance X falls off the one line IMO is if they lose today and/or they lose Round 1 of the BE Tournament. Even then, it would take a team like Duke or Carolina running through their Conference Tournament to pass Xavier. But both of them also lost earlier this week, so again not likely.

Iíd say thatís fair. UVA is the only team locked as a #1, Mich St will be a lock if they win the B10 Tourney. Iíd say Xavier is the next on the one line by a good margin. Then you have a collection of teams including Nova, Kansas, UNC, and Duke fighting for the last #1.

Nova is likely ahead of Xavier based on head-to-head results. Carolina lost twice this week so they won't be a #1 seed. Michigan State losing yesterday isn't going to help their case either. The #1 seeds likely come down to: Virginia, Nova, XU, Kansas and Duke.

As of today, Jerry Palm @ CBS has the top seeds as follows:
1) Villanova
2) X
3)Virginia
4) Kansas
The #2 seeds are, in order:
5) Duke
6) Purdue
7) UC
8) Michigan State

This may change a little bit (like UC winning today @ Wichita), but with the way the NCAA committee looks at each game as part of a season-long body of work I'm sure there will be some minor movement here, but not a lot.

Kansas doesn’t deserve a 1 seed. And I’m not sure how any of those other schools get a 1 over Michigan St.

Lunardi @ ESPN has his #1 seeds as follows (don't know how he ranks them):
Virginia
Villanova
Kansas
Xavier
His #2 seeds are (again, no rankings indicated):
Purdue
Duke
North Carolina
Michigan State

Yeah, Kansas just got obliterated by a Bubble Team. They should not be a 1 seed as of today. Now, if they win the B12 Tourney thatís another story. I wouldnít be shocked to see another early exit from Kansas.

I think the ones are UVA, Nova, Xavier, and either Michigan St or Purdue.

Not sure UC deserves a 2, but they deserve some consideration. I think they’d be a solid 3 or maybe even a 4, if they fall flat in the conf tourney.

Purdue is done with a loss to Michigan. The other 4 are deserving.

NEW AP POLL:

UVA
Nova
X
MSU

figured Nova would jump us. until we beat them, that's probably where we belong.

maybe we get another shot at them on Saturday.

get the Johnnies at noon. not the best matchup for X but hoping the 15 hour layover for SJU will make their legs just a little bit slower.

X should be able to win this but Johnnies are athletic and give X matchup problems.

probably have to score 75 to win.

As much as I hate to say it, A St. Johns win would not shock me -- especially now that Shamorie Ponds is healthy again.

I still don't think Kanter is an NBA player but man he has really exceeded my expectations this year. He's been very good for XU.

Also, I'm really high on Scruggs' career at XU. About 14 minutes left in the game: OMara blocked a shot, Scruggs corrals the rebound, handles/dribbles through 3 guys in transition and has a sweet one handed bounce pass from outside the 3pt line through 3 other players to someone under the hoop for an open layup. He ran that fast break damn well.

In the 2nd half, I was very impressed with X's defensive efforts against St. John's quickness. Marshall and Gates especially did a tremendous job of shutting down Shamorrie Ponds.
It's one win. Tomorrow's another day.

This choke job could very well cost X the 1 seed. Better hope Duke doesn’t win the ACC Tourney.

I have never really cared about who the #1 seeds are. I mean, I know they theoretically have the easiest path -- on paper -- to the Final 4. However, you gotta show up every night or you're out. So -- as a Xavier fan -- I don't care whether X gets a #1 or #2 seed.
That said, Jerry Palm and Joe Lunardi both have X as the 4th #1 seed thanks, of course, to the loss by Duke. According to both, there isn't anyone below X with a resume that will get them a #1.
Having grown up in Cincinnati and rooting for both UC and X for years, it's unreal seeing both teams at the top of the college basketball world this year.

great to get the first 1 seed ever in school history.

preliminary look at the bracket - doesn't seem to be that bad, although watching Michigan in the Big 10 tourney.....they're playing really well. would have to get to elite 8 to get them, anyway. heck, getting by winner of Mizzou/FLA ST won't be easy either. if it's FLA ST, they're gonna be looking for revenge from the drubbing we gave them in the tourney last year.

X is the least likely #1 to make FF and most places have several teams, including Gonzaga, with better odds to make FF, which is fine. X can use that as motivation.

in the end, you gotta show up and beat whoever is in front of you.

i do like that we play the winner of a play-in game. they have to play Wednesday night in Dayton, get to Nashville that night and have one day to prepare for the Muskies. i'll take that.

should be a fun tourney.

If i was a Xavier fan I would ecstatic with that draw. sweet 16 game is a little revenge with Zaga and really isn't that crazy tough of a matchup. Would love to see them potentially beat UNC

Xavier was 19-30 at the free throw line which cost them the game and it is frustrating. I was hoping Xavier would at least make the elite eight or possibly the final four with the talent they had this year. Trevon had an off night and the free throw shooting certainly hurt along with FSU's tough defense. Xavier has heavy graduation losses this year with JP, Trevon, and Kanter gone along with O' Mara.

Didnít Mick say he doesnt care about the S16, only winning a Title? Sounds like the same idea. XU is still a far better program than UC with an infinitely better coach.

Yep. They exited after UC. This year. By about 2 hours. Haa least they were only the second most overrated #1 seed. Lucky for them Virginia lost
