Company Is Building 3D-Printed Homes For Just $10,000

Using the Vulcan printer, ICON can print an entire home for $10,000 and plans to bring costs down to $4,000 per house. “It’s much cheaper than the typical American home,” Ballard says. It’s capable of printing a home that’s 800 square feet, a significantly bigger structure than properties pushed by the tiny home movement, which top out at about 400 square feet. In contrast, the average New York apartment is about 866 square feet.

I skimmed the article, which did not go into detail. But, it did say this:

The use of cement as a common material will help normalize the process for potential tenants that question the sturdiness of the structure. I think if we were printing in plastic we would encounter some issues.

Here are some 3-D materials (not mentioned in the article),

NYLON: (Polyamide)
ABS: (Home printers)
RESIN: (Multiple options)

I think this is way cool. I'm thinking starter/low income/homeless folks/retirees. 800 sq. ft. is about 2/3 the size of my house (four rooms vs. six, making sense). Yes, I live in a Cracker Box (or, is it "bag" now?), yet plenty of room for two.

It's pretty significant for poor people in places like Guatemala or El Salvador.
