Well, that was a butt whipping. Moeller vs Wayne will obviously be the elite matchup coming from this region. But, one game at a time.

Wayne was very good tonight and was focused on basketball from the get-go. They jumped up 16-2 1st quarter and rode that lead until OH cut a 48-28 lead down to 61-52, but Wayne put it away at the foul line from there.

OH after going 1 for 10 in the 1st quarter were 19 for 36 the remainder of the game--53%--but against Wayne one bad quarter is a killer. The final 3 quarters were played dead even, but the 16-2 deficit was too big of a mountain for OH to climb. Diefel had 21 points in his final game and showed the hustle and leadership that put him on the 2nd Team All Southwest District Team--returning Juniors Berkemeier with 11, Moeller with 10, and Hayes 4 combined for 25 points. 2nd place in the GMC and District Runner-up was a heckuva year for this 18-7 team.

Wayne is good and Princeton missing Bazely and Pierce will have a very tough assignment to keep GMC hopes alive in 2018!!

Should be two great games. This is not a split session or is it? I was very impressed with Wayne tonight. Their shooting and defense was great and when Oak Hills got it down to 9 they did not panic. Blue and Q were both incredible tonight.

Here is hoping Travis trice does not return. Especially since he went 15-10 with a girls team that returned everybody after going 45-7 the previous 2 years. Three girls moved out ?
Go away Travis

Oak Hills vs Huber Heights Wayne

District Finals @ UD

Oak Hills came in as the #3 seed and finished 2nd in the GMC. They were known for being physical and in your face defense. It did not take long though for Wayne to flex their muscle as before anyone could get settled it was already 8-0 Wayne. It was Parker drilling a 3 to get it started. Quisenberry with a basket and then Smith for 3. Another Smith 3 made it 13-2 Wayne. Parker ended the scoring with his 2nd 3 as it was all Wayne 16-2 after 1.

Oak Hills showed some life to start the 2nd scoring the first 5 as Deifel would hit a 3 but Wayne quickly got it going again. Smith inside followed by back to back scores by Quisenberry and Wayne was up 22-9. Smith muscles himself inside, scores and fouled... free throw good 25-9. Steal, Quisenberry with the dunk... 27-9. Another steal, Quisenberry for 3... GOOD 30-9 Wayne. Wayne would not score though for the rest of the qtr but they would hold Oak Hills to just 1 basket the rest of the way. Halftime, Wayne 30 Oak Hills 11.

McKee got into the scoring column for Wayne in the 3rd, he would score 6 in the qtr. Smith has his way inside scoring back to back and ones. Hampton with the steal and a sweat behind the back pass in traffic to McKee for the score. Another McKee basket and Wayne was up big 44-20. Back to back three's by Oak Hills got them to within 18 but Wayne got back to 20 with a Hampton basket at the buzzer. 48-28 Wayne.

Deifel would go off for Oak Hills in the 4th scoring 13 and draining long three's and while Oak Hills actually closed the gap to just 61-52 Wayne would turn it back on and with a Smith dunk Wayne would pull away again to get the lead back up to 16 before back ups came into the game. Final, Wayne 68 Oak Hills 54.

Wayne will take on Princeton Wednesday night at 8 PM at the Cintas Center at Xavier University.

Scoring for Wayne... Smith 23, Quisenberry 19, McKee 10, Parker 9, Hampton 7

Oak Hills... Deifel 21, Moeller 8, Berkemeier 7, Woycke 6, Strader 6, Hayes 4, Zahneis 2

Will look like a replay of Moeller/Springfield. Can't believe how fluid Moeller looks on the larger college size court. For a team that focuses on defense, it's good to see the coach unleash them from time to time.

Huber Heights Wayne (24-1) vs Princeton (23-3)

Regional Semi Final Game at Cintas Center, Xavier University.

Princeton came into the game as the #2 ranked team in Cincinnati and they had only lost to a SWO team just once this year, that team was Wayne.

Wayne had problems with O'Neal inside in the opening qtr but Wayne was able to build a lead. Quisenberry basket put Wayne up 4-2. Quisenberry with a nice pass inside to Hampton, 6-4 Wayne. Hampton with another basket put Wayne up by 4. Princeton kept pace as Wayne could not pull away. Smith scored for Wayne and it was 10-6. Hampton fouled, drills both 12-6 Wayne. Smith from deep out, good... 15-8 Wayne. Started to look like Wayne was going to put them away but O'Neal was tough inside scoring 8 in the qtr. After 1, it was 16-10 Wayne. Wayne left points off the board as they missed 4 free throws which would be a trend in this game for them. Wayne has been a decent free throw shooting team this season.

Following a Hampton basket Princeton would get it rolling and they would tie the game at 18 following a Davis 3. Wayne would quickly get the lead back with back to back baskets by Quisenberry and would lead 25-20 before Hunter would take over for the Vikings. Hunter and one, Hunter with the drive, Hunter for 3... GOOD and just like that it was Princeton 28 Wayne 25 at the break.

Parker would get the scoring started for Wayne in the 3rd. Princeton would answer. Hampton hits for Wayne, steal, Quisenberry good... Wayne up 33-32. Princeton would answer with a O'Neal and one, 35-33 Princeton. Hampton hits, tied at 35... Hunter, fouled and hits... Princeton 38 Wayne 35. This game was physical and intense. Wayne would step up the defense and Quisenberry would answer scoring back to back baskets to put Wayne up 39-38 after 3.

Wayne would build a lead in the 4th. Quisenberry and Parker with back to back scores to put Wayne up by 5. Wayne would hold a 47-42 lead when a Parker steal and basket put Wayne up 49-42. Hunter would drill a 3, 49-45. A pair of free throws by Hunter, 49-47 but once again, Quisenberry would answer 51-47. Wayne got a couple stops and added a free throw and started running time... an open Smith for the dunk put the game away, 54-47 Wayne. Wayne wins 56-49.

Scoring for Wayne: Quisenberry 24, Hampton 12, Parker 10, Smith 8, McKee 2
Hunter scored 23 for Princeton, O'neal added 17.

Up next for Wayne is the #1 team in the state Moeller. They have been blowing everyone away and is coming off a 65-44 win over Springfield. Wayne will have to play one of their best games of the season to have a chance.....

The game is 7:30 at the Cintas on Friday.....

Game report tomorrow night....

Wayne gave Moeller a fight and was leading at the half but in the end Hayes and Davenport were just too much for Wayne to handle as Moe pulled away late 65-53. Wayne was only trailing 50-46 with less than 4 minutes to go and had a chance to cut it to 1 but the three ball rimmed out not once but twice.....

Huber Heights Wayne vs Moeller

Regional Final

Moeller, #1 team in the state and undefeated against teams in Ohio.... Wayne would have to play near perfect to get the win.

The opening quarter started sloppy but McKee got the scoring started for Wayne with a 3 and it was 3-0 Wayne. Everything was a battle and inside for Wayne was met with resistance and swatted away by the 6'11" Hayes. Moeller tied it at 4 but Smith put the Warriors back up 6-4. Moe would tie at 6 and then Davenport would go on a 5-0 run to put them up 11-6. Quisenberry with the 3, good... 11-9 Moeller. Moeller would end the qtr on a 4-0 run, 15-9 Moeller after 1.

Parker for 3 to start the 2nd, 15-12 but Davenport would go off again with a basket and a 3, 20-12 Moe. Moe though could not pull away as Parker would heat up scoring 10 in the qtr. A three from Parker brought Wayne to within 5, a drive and score by Parker and they are within 3. McKee for 3 and we are tied at 24. A Quisenberry 3 would put Wayne up 27-26 and that was the half time score.

Moe would score the first 5 to start the 3rd with a basket by Peyton and a 3 by Pfiem (sp?). Parker would stop the bleeding with a score, 31-29 Moe. Smith would get himself into foul trouble but his basket would stop a 4-0 Moe run. Moe would go on a 6-1 run to close the qtr. Hayes was just too much for Wayne inside scoring 8 in the qtr.... 43-34 Moe after 3.

Wayne would not go away as they would cut into that deficit. Back to back scores by Quisenberry closed it to 46-40. A couple of free throws by Quisenberry made it 48-44 Moe but Wayne could not get any closer. Trailing 50-46 late Wayne had multiple opportunities to get closer but a Quisenberry 3 rimmed out followed by another 3 attempt by Smith that looked like it was going in but also did not connect but the toughest one to take was McKee's three that was half way down but wiggled out. It was just not meant to be. Forced to take chances Wayne got burnt late as Moe pulled away winning 65-53. The final score was no indication of how close this game really was but in the end Moeller was the better team and played better so they will move on. Moeller was my preseason pick to win state and their is not a team in Ohio that can beat them when they are on.

Wayne scoring: Quisenberry 21, Parker 15, McKee 11, Smith 6
Moe was led by Davenport 21 and Hayes with 20.

What a great season Wayne had.... 25-2, GWOC, Sectional, and District CHAMPIONS and regional runner ups...

Best of luck to the seniors:

Deshon Parker
Darius Quisenberry
L'Christian "Blue" Smith
Matt Palma
Antwuan Johnson (was injured during the regular season... could of used him last night! )
James Shanklin

The future for Wayne is bright with a strong freshman class and some key returning starters in Hampton and McKee.

Go Wayne!
