West Clermont SD - Selling Trophies on Craigslist!

Wow...the West Clermont SD is selling trophies of the past to the highest bidder on Craigslist. I wonder how ex-athletes would feel about that.

FWIW, my school only keeps trophies from countywide and OHSAA tournament competition. Other trophies won during the year are displayed in an auxiliary display case and then end up any number of places (often given back to the coaches whose teams won them). In past years, many trophies ended up in the school's attic only to become broken or discarded. In order to prevent that from occurring in XC and track, we take any trophies we win during the season (unfortunately, not many) and present them at the banquet to a kid who we felt was our MVP of that meet.

A couple years ago, I found our golf team's first district title trophy (1967) in the school's attic. Our principal (who is also the golf coach) dusted it off and returned it to its rightful place in the main trophy case. It looks very unique standing next to the standard 2-panel trophies the District Boards and OHSAA award nowadays at the district and regional competitions.

If I was WC, I'd have the alumni office (or whoever handles alumni relations) make some attempt to track down notable ex-athletes or ex-coaches to see if they want the trophies or know anyone that might want them. If that doesn't work, I say donate them to a worthy cause like some local youth sports league or the local Special Olympics. As a last resort, strip them and sell the components.

Our school only displayes post season and league trophies.......We host alot of home meet stuff so that is also kept.

My teams have about 100 trophies that are in my room. School doesnt care about those so I keep all of them on display myself.

I know some coaches give them away as awards to whoever ran well that meet.
