Interesting day to say the least. Would be great for Nebby and the Big Ten West to get Scott Frost

The Tennessee fan base is in all-out assault mode on social media over the Schiano hire. This might not be over yet. There's even been a few Tennessee state legislators voice dissent on the grounds of Schiano being named under court oath in connection to knowing about child abuse at Penn State. Prominent journalists (i.e. Clay Travis) are going to hammer that detail since they hate the hire.

Schiano managed to bring Rutgers out of college football hell, so I don't really doubt his ability to recruit or coach. The connections to Penn State are pretty damning, though. I can understand the outrage if it's sincere and not just Vols fans sour grapes from wanting a bigger name.

By and large this sounds like sour grapes from the mental midgets who thought they were getting Gruden, and it looks like it's worked. It's now sounding like Schiano to Tennessee will fall through. With this debacle and the guys who are already off the board or will be soon, it seems like the Vols are destined to make another underwhelming hire. IMO, Campbell, Leach or anybody else who's been paid already or will have other options would be crazy to take up this dumpster fire. I'd bet Mike Norvell (Memphis) will end up being their next coach if this really does fall through.

Anyone with half a brain knows this outrage over Schiano's history at PSU is a red herring. But hey, looks like it worked.

Exactly. Clay Travis led the idiot charge of feigned outrage on this, and he's listed the likes of Bobby Petrino (motorcycle incident), Mike Leach (Adam James incident), and Lane Kiffin (formerly hit-and-quit the Vols, well-renowned doosh) among his list of "better" coaches the Vols could hire.

With the bogus morality claim, I hope UT ends up with a crappier coach. I admire stopping the awful hire, but hiding behind the PSU scandal is low. Just be honest.

Agreed on this being fake outrage. It's embarrassing for Tennessee IMO, and I hope they continue to suck for years to come.

In the meantime, Urban doesn't have to worry about DC

Yup, looks like UT fans were mad that they didn't get the hire they wanted, so they mustered up some fake outrage to stop it. This makes me hate Tennessee and I hope the worst for them.

And FWIW, Schiano wouldn't have been the worst hire in the world. What he did at Rutgers was pretty amazing, and he has done a great job as DC at OSU.

Depending on the exact language of the MOU Schiano and Tennessee agreed to UT may find themselves on the hook for a substantial amount of money for backing out of this agreement.

Likewise, IMO there may be some low-hanging fruit for Schiano to sue (i.e. Clay Travis) for libel. Hard to ignore a blowhard who makes a video claiming he "torpedoed" your imminent hire.

Would love nothing more than to see Joey Freshwater back at UT. He's easily my 2nd favorite coach behind Leach.

There's no way they can justify hiring Kiffin or Petrino after today's Bible thumping campaign. Even Leach would be a stretch.

And now he's divorced. Only a matter of time until he gets caught dating an undergrad.

I hope to God Leach is smart enough to avoid Tennessee. They would destroy him and would take every one of his amazing press conferences and turn it against him. Leach is also a west coast guy and his one-dimensional offense wouldn't work in the SEC. Everybody knows that pirates don't wear orange

I know times have changed, but Spurrier ran a similar Offense with great success. Still, I don't think Leach would do well at a place with high expectations.

Leach has his quarterbacks throw 75+ times a game sometimes. Connor Halladay had 89 pass attempts once. That will never work in the SEC.

Looks like he runs a more balanced offense at Wazzou.

Yes and I'm not sorry one bit. These Administrators and coaches sometimes live in a bubble and forget, they're paid to win.

Hardly, they're still throwing 55 passes to 20 runs per game. Not totally one dimensional anymore but they still throw a ton. Luke Falk threw 69 times against Utah, they had 84 pass attempts at Arizona, 67 against Boise State.

It seems odd people are treating the Schiano/PSU stuff as factual. The accusation was old, disputed, and based on hearsay from one anonymous source. It's kind of disgusting TN fans are so desperate to have Gruden as coach that they'd portray a guy as covering up child rape to further their cause.

This is made all the more hilarious because
A.) Gruden will never take the job

B.) I'm not convinced Gruden would be a better hire than Schiano anyway. One has actually rebuilt a program, one has no collegiate coaching experience and has been sitting in an announcers booth for the last decade.
