Mississippi State had 1 season of 9+ wins between 1980-2008. That's all I need to know. It's arguably the worst job in the SEC and he's made them respectable.

Exactly. Only Vandy and KY are potentially worse gigs.

Interesting. Wonder who Nebraska goes after if Frost is off the table.

I'm guessing they make a strong push for Matt Campbell. Dude can recruit like crazy and brings tremendous energy, similar to a Fleck but with better major conference results so far. He's essentially the anti-Reilly.

That's what I was thinking also, but then remembered his buyout is something crazy. I don't think it matters, Nebraska needs to be open to spending a ridiculous amount of cash. They can't screw this one up.

I'm not sure money is much of an issue here since Reilly's buyout is fairly large. I think Nebraska is at the point where they're tired of being mediocre at best. IMO, they'll break the bank the get either Frost or Campbell.

I think Nebraska needs Frost. He's a guy whose passionate about the program and might stick around longer if he has success. Plus, it's a lot easier to have a guy like Frost selling recruits on Nebraska's tradition, bc he was part of it. It's not easy to get kids to come to Lincoln.

I have had the chance to sit down and talk football with coach Campbell several times when he was a young coach at Mount Union ... I am not surprised by his rise ... he was one of the brightest and most passionate coach I have ever meet ... personally I would like to see him stay at Iowa State and turn them into a power house until the time in which he could replace Urban at OSU when he retires.

Right now Campbell would be my first choice to replace Urban when the time comes down the road. NEO guy who's spent his entire coaching career in Ohio with the exception of his current stint at Iowa State, as as you said, very bright and extremely passionate. Pretty big fan of another Mount Union guy, Jason Candle (Toledo), as well. If the coaching carousel goes full spin as many are speculating I see there being a good chance he makes his first upward move to an AAC or lower-tier Power 5 school this year. At most I think he has one year left at Toledo. The ultimate dream IMO would be getting Campbell as head coach with Candle and Luke Fickell flaming out at middling jobs and coming to OSU as his coordinators.

Hearing Sumlin to ASU, Schiano to TN. Ironic, UT might hire an ex TB Bucs coach, just not the one anyone wanted.

Clay Travis and every other delusional Vol homer that thought Gruden was coming to Rocky Top are collectively having a meltdown right now.
Sumlin to Arizona State seems like a good hire IMO. Arizona State has some potential with the right coach.

Thrilled to get Schiano out of Cbus. D underachieved and he can take the LB coach, Bill Davis, with him. Not sure how Schiano will do with the Vols, but happy to see him gone from OSU.

Agree about Campbell replacing Urban, eventually. Also agree about Candle.

It is funny seeing Clay Travis meltdown. Obviously, Schiano would be a disaster, but I don't get the Gruden appeal. He's been out of coaching nearly a decade and doesn't have the personality to deal with kids. They'd be better off re-hiring Kiffin.

Good. Does that mean Frost probably turned down Florida? Or Florida preferred Mullen to Frost?

I actually feel bad for UT fans. This fanbase has suffered enough the past decade and I can't think of a worse hire

Tennessee has such an inflated opinion about the prestige of their coaching position. It's like the 8th most desirable job in the SEC.

I'd say it's Top 5 for the SEC. Bama, UGA, LSU, and Florida all rank higher.

I don’t feel bad for them at all. They ran fat Phil Fulmer out of town, and they have been desperately trying to get back to where he took the program, but have failed to do so.

I'd rank Auburn ahead of TN for sure. A&M and South Carolina debatable.

Had no idea Schiano allegedly played a part in the Penn State cover up. A true scumbag if true. Right up there with Briles.

Tennessee is probably no better than the 6th best SEC job solely due to recruiting. Recruiting and location alone have to put A&M ahead of Tennessee. There simply aren't many high major FBS recruits in Tennessee, and they have to recruit successfully regionally and/or nationally to be good. IMO regionally generally means plucking guys from the highly transient metro Atlanta area, which is an issue when Georgia, Auburn and Clemson are good. They've been bad to mediocre for so long now that the Fulmer years are a distant memory to recruits. Any coach would have an uphill battle to turn that program back into a legit contender at this point IMO.

That would be awesome ... Candle is also destined for a bigger job.
