Here is Baugh: http://247sports.com/Player/Marcus-B...stitution=8025.

Point is Meyer has had plenty of highly rated TE recruits.

Chatfield decommitted. He will likely go to one of the Florida schools. Shouldn't be a big deal as a number of higher-rated DE will likely sign on.

It sounds like it is most likely UF, since he just got an offer from the Gators a couple of weeks ago.

http://www.thelantern.com/2017/08/fo...om-ohio-state/

I don't really mind if the kid wanted to go to UF all along, but it is a bit silly to "commit" to Ohio State while pining for an offer from the Gators. I hope TSUN drills Florida in week one, and the kid starts to have second thoughts. In the meantime, I also hope the Buckeyes land an even better DE recruit, and then tell Chatfield, "sorry, no more room at the inn" even if he wants to "re-commit."

I'm not sure there's any reason to have that much disdain for his decision.

+1

It goes both ways in recruiting, coaches change their mind just as much as the athletes. New world starts in 2018 when football has an early signing period.

Ohio State Recruiting

Some good news and bad news the past 24 hours:

First the bad:

Quote:
Ohio State recruiting: 5-star defensive end de-commits; another quarterback domino falls

A huge fear for Ohio State has become a reality. With Alabama and Georgia ramping up the pressure in his recruitment, 5-star defensive end Brenton Cox walked away from his Ohio State commitment Wednesday night.

4-star QB commits to Miami (Fla.)

Miami (Fla.) received a commitment Wednesday from 4-star quarterback Jarren Williams, who’d been offered by Ohio State as insurance against an Emory Jones departure. Williams visited Columbus for the Illinois game, but the Buckeyes were never able to overcome Miami.

Jones is still committed to Ohio State, which is important to remember. The bad news, though, is that the Buckeyes just lost out on their top option to replace him in the event Jones ends up at Alabama or Auburn. There are still a couple other quarterbacks who could end up in the Buckeyes’ class if Jones does flip, including 4-star Adrian Martinez and 3-star Matthew Baldwin.

https://www.landof10.com/ohio-state/...x-decommitment

The good:

Quote:
CB Tyreke Johnson continues Florida pipeline to Ohio State

Cornerback Tyreke Johnson, the No. 38-ranked prospect in the class of 2018, is following a familiar path.

On Tuesday, the 6-foot-1, 191-pound playmaker committed to Ohio State over Clemson, Florida, UCLA and a host of others, becoming the latest defensive back from Florida to pick the Buckeyes.

Johnson joins ESPN 300 cornerback Sevyn Banks as defensive backs from the Sunshine State committed to Urban Meyer in the 2018 class, as well as the second cornerback from Jacksonville, Florida, area power Trinity Christian Academy to head to Columbus, joining 2017 five-star Shaun Wade.

Seemed like for the past month Cox was leaning towards de committing. Bummer, likely to end up at Alabama.

Interesting week to say the least in tOSU recruiting. On the positive side they pick up a versatile DB in Tyreke Johnson but they lose a huge player in DE Brenton Cox and it appears that QB Emory Jones too may be heading elsewhere. To add salt to the wound they both will probably end up at Alabama. No worries though as a plan C Pro Style QB was swiped from Colorado State and committed to the Buckeye.

First glance the QB signing (and likely Emory Jones decommitting) seems bad, but TBH I'm glad to be seeing a pro-style QB coming in. His tape looks good. Brenton Cox decommitting certainly hurts more IMO.

Lake Travis has pumped out a ton of QB recruits in recent years, with a few of them turning out to be pretty solid college QBs. The best one, Baker Mayfield, will win the Heisman this year. It's fairly impressive that this kid had a handful of FBS offers and committed to Colorado State before becoming the starter this year as a senior. His tape looks pretty good. This may end up being one of those late risers that turns into a nice player.

Yeah I didn't really care for landing another running QB

Michigan lands Shea Patterson as a transfer from Ole Miss, was the #1 rated QB in the nation in the 2016 recruiting class. They may have finally found a QB.

A pair of 4 stars in DT Tommy Toigiai and WR Kamryn Babb both committ tonight. May have misspelled those names.

Bout time Babb committed. Also, word is formerly decommitted 4* DE Andrew Chatfield might be back in the fold. Apparently a big reason he decommitted was he felt 2nd fiddle to Cox and Parsons at the time.

Actually no one has a clue what will happen at DE this year. A lot of different names being thrown around associated with tOSU, UM, and Penn State. Great DT class but who knows what the DE class will look like. In 2 years tOSU may be the opposite of this year, a team of DTs along the DL.

The 1st early signing day is tomorrow and it feels really weird, nowhere near the hype that the 1st Wednesday of February has generated in the past.

Alex Williams 3 DE from Pick North reportedly will sign. They’ve stopped recruiting Emory Jones and news came out that they stopped recruiting Parsons because of violations they committed when he visited in the Fall and spoke to media members. That explains that.

I agree, also don't rule out the lower rated guys. Tuf Borland was a low 4 star and has turned into a better player than some of the 5 star LBs he was recruited with.

High number of crystal ball predictions flipping Carman to Clemson. I'm not surprised, he's never really shown big interest in OSU from what I've seen. We will see in about 45 minutes.

Carman picks Clemson. I had wondered this whole time why the experts all expected him to choose OSU.

I think Georgia may end up leap-frogging OSU as the top class, a bit disappointing end to this recruiting period I'd say.

Not surprising. I mentioned on a Yappi thread once before that I feel Georgia is the best gig in the nation. You have a rabid, loyal fan base. You're in the SEC. You have fantastic in-state talent, and it's very easy to dip into the Carolina's and Florida for more. Excellent facilities. Easy drive to ATL, it's warm all year, and Athens is an awesome college town. Oh, and gorgeous females.

To say the least. Was never a huge Carmen fan as his body doesn't pass the look test as athletic OTs are now the thing and he is anything but that. Cox is going to be a high end DE when it is all said and done and I think while Jones is not a prototype leader on the field his physical tools are unmatched in this class.

Bottom line now is in a few years the DE and OT spots could be challenging positions for tOSU, especially with regards to depth.

Never cared much for him or Emory Jones anytime I watched them actually play. Jones was left out of the Elite 11 QB class for a reason, and Carman has been underwhelming as an actual player, though the size is certainly there (and that means keeping his weight in-check).

The guys I'm pizzed about missing are Parsons and Cox. Elite DE's.

I actually agree for the most part with the previous posts, something about the way Carman and Parsons carried themselves makes me believe they may not live up to their billing. As for Jones, I think he'd be a good addition but I am glad they are taking a different type of QB than they have in years past.

Losing Cox is the biggest one IMO.

No sugar-coating it, though. A once potentially legendary class is losing all it's 5-star types in Carman, Woodbey, Parsons, Cox, Jones. This class will look good, numbers-wise, and there is quality, but they struck out on pretty much every elite player they chased hard. Not a good look, or trend. Meanwhile, the South gets stronger and Penn State is becoming a huge thorn in OSU's side as far as recruiting goes. Missing the playoffs does not help, nor does getting smoked by Clemson in the playoffs and having Dabo crow about how they pretty much laughed at OSU after watching all the film in game prep. That playoff championship with Cardale and Zeke feels like 100 years ago, at this point.

He was a 247 composite 5 star for a few months. Lost a star after being passed over by Elite 11.
