I totally agree! This could be a real blessing for the program over time. I like the other candidates, too; but Marcus is young and I absolutely know he won't be deterred by the challenges some kids in our town must deal with in this time.
He gets it.

I admit I was depressed when our last coach departed. He was a really good one and a good man. I worried who we might end up with. But I always kept the faith. And now I can't wait for our season to begin!

Best of luck to Coach Marcus Wattley! You're a Canton McKinley Bulldog now, and you have my full support!

Always keep the faith!

Go Bulldogs!

There's an update on that articles. Seems like there's some confusion going on. Doesn't surprise me.

Only at McKinley could you screw up hiring a football coach an absolute embarrassment and if I'm Wattley I turn and run

He rebuilt the team and there was progression every year. He got us through consolidation and beat Massillon with a Timken quarterback. The attitudes of the players were great, and the team was looking very strong for the next two seasons. When you are a proven State Championship coach starting at McKinley, andonly coach 4 years here, nobody owns you. He was about to turn those situations around pronto. Watch what he does @ Ursuline...

But now he's been replaced by Marcus Wattley, I will sleep like a baby tonight. I realize some of you old Timken people are still bitter. It shows in your posts. But it's time to accept we have ONE school now, and if you can't move on with it, that's your maturity issue, not our's.

Always keep the faith!

Go Bulldogs!

Congratulations to Coach Wattley. I've talked to a couple of people who said he is a he!! of a coach. Should be an interesting year. See you week 10.

I've been thinking the same thing. Ive heard they read this site to get info sometimes. People should wait before assigning blame to CCS, myself included.

I would normally agree. He lost some games he prolly could have won weeks 9& 10. But Perry had bigger, better lines than we did his first 3 years, and when Wakefield has an advantage, he uses it to the max. Last year, we were a pass oriented underclassman team that only lost in the rain and were unbeaten in dry conditions. He was very unlucky with week 10, losing 3 games by a total of 10 points. Imho he should have won the first three of those, but only won the first with his weakest team.

Maybe CCS has bigger concerns- ranked 599 out of 608 school districts in Ohio-

They weren't the one that did it and they were going based on a supposed 'good source' of info with McK sports.

That's still the Reps fault. Your suppose to get two sources before you report something. I realize that means you might have to wait another day or two or do a little extra leg work but so what. Think about it who else is going to beat the Rep even if they have to wait another day or two?

Their journalistic integrity seems less and less important to them all the time.

Cool McKinley Names Wattley as new Head Coach

It's February 26, 2019

If Wattley bolts, it's because he found out that the Football Complex will NOT be built this spring.

This is IUDOGS signing off.

Agreed... the rush to be the one to 'scoop' the story was the problem in all cases here.

In the overall scheme of things, this should be a much more important concern than who is named as the head football coach.

Like it is in your Massillon, right? Your coach doesn't 'rescue' 5'8 tuba players from tough neighborhoods to lodge in his basement, does he?

Just as a point of reference, the bottom three in Stark County are:
Canton City- 599 out of 608
Alliance- 587 of 608
Massillon- 492 of 608

The top 3 are:
Lake- 53 of 608
N. Canton- 55 of 608
Jackson- 59 of 608

Schools in the old industrial urban districts fare badly statewide, so there is something else in play than simply level of instruction. The fact that districts with the highest percentages of economically disadvantaged families struggle academically is no surprise. Publics, unlike privates, don't get to cherry pick their students. if a kid goes to school hungry, he doesn't learn as much. It's not exclusively a Stark Co, problem, it's an American problem, and it keeps getting worse. You can debate the political reasons for this, but it exists, nevertheless. The national boom in food bank use extends beyond the inner cities as well. I see suburban schools that have families living on the brink of financial oblivion, too. Akron Springfield jumps out for one.

Not exactly sure what this has to do with being ranked 599 out of 608.

Maybe if you convince CCSD to adopt open enrollment then some of those future doctors and lawyers will come over from Jackson, N.Canton, and Lake. That is the main reason you want open enrollment right?

Surprisingly enough though I do agree with your most recent post.
