Divisional Alignments

Thoughts about the divisional alignments? St. Mary’s, Steubenville and London moving up to DIII could make things interesting.

Austintown Fitch dropped to D2. They have been a pretty consistent playoff team in D1 over the last decade or so. They struggled against the bigger schools in the playoffs though, losing to Iggy and Ed when they had really good teams a few years back.

I am interested to see what the drop does for them. The loss of the head coach recently could have a huge impact as well. Phil will be missed in the Valley.

I don't know if it will get any easier. Sure they don't have to deal with Iggy and Ed's, but Massillon and Hoban are right with those schools. This year it seems like the schedule is going to be really tough. Adding Benedictine, Bishop Hartley, Ursuline, and Glenoak has mad this schedule a lot tougher. I know that Ursuline and Glenoak have been down, but Ursuline has a new coach who will make them better, and Glenoak is a big school that can turn it around quickly. I worry that the person to replace Annarella will not do the small things that guys like him do. When Hartman left, the team was no where near as disciplined. I fear that will happen again. The next hires after Hartman were horrible, and a lot of good football talent was wasted. I didn't like Annarella's offense, but I knew he would have them ready to play. Now, we have to wait and see who gets the job. I also imagine that the kids are going to be taking this hard. It's one thing when a person is sick, and you can prepare for the end. But this is shocking. I thought the guy looked great and had a great demeanor. I was hoping he could get those few players needed to really challenge for another state championship.

Any early thoughts on who will be the next coach?

I have no idea. The guys I had a connection with are not there any more. I would like to see Hurdley come back and take over. He would bring the discipline and the winning mentality to the team. He may even bring back a little bit of the wing-t. I wish he was still with the program as DC. I really want someone who was a former player. Other than Annarella, going outside of the program has not been good.

Where is Wally now? I knew he left Fitch a few years ago. I assume with this shock, they will stay within. The kid need stability.

Minster & Marion Local must have wanted to switch up who gets what state championship trophy. They've swapped with each other in D6/D7.
