PTC Metro splitting from league

https://www.record-courier.com/sport...ail-conference

Looks like it is official.
County trying to get Waterloo or Windham back in.

This is such a joke. The likes of Coventry Field and Springfield better stay together! They will not be able to win a game if not against each other.

I'm hoping they call it the "Metro League." Would be a good throwback name and at least two of the schools were former members of the old Metro League (Ravenna and Springfield)

Field also was in the original Metro for two seasons (1976 and 1977) before going to the Suburban League in 1978.

Yes! I agree. Actually 5 of the 8 PTC Metro schools today at one time or another were in the old Metro League. Coventry, Norton, and Springfield were all original Metro League members in the 1930's, 1940's, 1950's, and 1960's. Ravenna was also a Metro League member school joining in 1963. Coventry (after 32 years in the old Metro League) left for the Suburban League in 1969 and Norton left in 1972 for the Suburban as well. Springfield and Ravenna remained in the Metro League until 1995 around the time the league disbanded. Field, as previously mentioned in this thread, was a Metro League member in 1976 and 1977.

Is St. Thomas Aquanis still in the mix to be added to the County side?

I don't see Windham or Waterloo joining the PTC; I think it's time to break up all the conferences. Move to a District/Regional format

Crestwood, Garfield, Mogadore, Rootstown and Southeast

not ideal league

However - St thomas knocking at the door, and rumors of Manchester sniffing, doesn't seem too far fetched to think that quite possibly some schools are looking at the county as a possibility

From what I'm hearing, we will remain in the NCL.

You sure about that? I'd heard St. Thomas Aquinas was done with the NCL regardless of finding a new league.

Their schedule for this fall indicates they're gone from the NCL:
Week 1 - at Gilmour Academy
Week 2 - East Canton
Week 3 - at Claymont
Week 4 - Canton CC
Week 5 - Rootstown
Week 6 - at WRA
Week 7 - Warren JFK
Week 8 - Akron North
Week 9 - at Ashtabula St. John
Week 10 - at Canton South

I have not lived there in some time, nor have I seen their schedule for next season, but last I heard we were not voted into the PTC, so by default, I assumed we would be remaining in the NCL. I could be and appear to be wrong.

I'm hardly an insider at St. Thomas, so I thought maybe something had changed. St. Thomas announced its exit from the NCL at the beginning of this school year, long before applying to the PTC. All indications are that the NCL days are done.

Good, we have no business traveling that far when we have a plethora of quality teams, none of which are afraid to play us anymore, close by.

And don't forget Lake Center...no football and probably never and Youngstown Valley....way too far....Waterloo and Windham would be smart to rejoin. Transportation costs must be out of sight. And Waterloo can't pass a levy..add Mogadore Field back in drop the privates.

not being a hater

i just think the waterloo and windham boat has sailed

6 teams would not be bad, it would fill back half of schedule and allow some freedom with the two tough weeks to fill but ability to get some harbin targets in those spots.

3 spots open, once you get one then two, probably have a choice for 8. I think the 5 could easily grab St Thomas and Manchester, leaving a spot open - which if they felt the move would benefit could be field, however they seem to be thick in the new "metro"

The county as is will be fine in football but in some sports, like wrestling, this will hurt.

A final league tournament with only 5 teams? Probably only Rootstown and Mogadore fielding whole teams the next few years? There will be weight classes with only 2 or 3 kids in the “bracket”.

I am not too worried about it. In the long run this will probably make the County better.

No one has been able to answer this question.

Is this league split starting 2019/20 season or 2020/21?

I admit I'm old school but if I was King of Portage I would rename the PTC County the PCL. I would get Waterloo and Windham back in. I would get Field to move from PTC Metro. Private schools goodbye.

Crestwood, Garrettsville, Mogadore, Southeast, Rootstown, Waterloo, Field, Windham. 7 league games, 3 OOC.
May not be a powerhouse but it's good, small school neighbor rivalries.
Certainly way, way better than traveling to Youngstown and Lake.
