Wayne only returns 1 starter so it could be an interesting season....

Wayne will get it started Friday night as they travel to Fairmont. Should be a very fast paced game.

Wayne @ Fairmont

Wayne is a middle of the pack team this season and they get things started at Fairmont. Long hit the first shot for Wayne a 3 that gave the Warriors a 3 point lead but nobody guarded Bochenek a deadly 3 point shooter for Fairmont who drilled his first 2 shots from beyond the arc... 6-5 Fairmont. Fairmont would open up a 6 point lead until McKee would hit to make it 12-8 Birds.... Bochenek again with the 3 ball, 15-8 Fairmont. Landers would answer with a 3 for Wayne but Hall would answer on the other end as Fairmont opened up a 19-11 lead. McKee would hit again and after 1, Fairmont 19 Wayne 13.

Hampton would make it 19-15 and then Bobby Cole would go off scoring 6 that would bring Wayne within 1 at 22-21. Fairmont though answered with an 8-0 run and would take a 32-24 lead at the break. Bochenek had 14 at the break.

Wayne would get within 4 following back to back baskets by Hampton but Fairmont quickly built the lead back up with a Hall basket, 39-30. Brian Hill off the bench with a big basket to close Wayne within 4 but Fairmont always had an answer. Landers for 3, 44-40 Fairmont but Hall quickly back to score to make it 46-40 after 3.

Bochenek would start the 4th with a long 3 and fouled, make it a 4 point play... 50-40 Fairmont. Hall does it the old fashion way as Fairmont breaks the game open going up 60-45. Wayne is dead in the water but they have one run left in them and it was Hampton leading the charge driving the lane and scoring. Landers would hit 4 freethrows and just like that we have a game... 60-56 Fairmont. Thompson would stop the bleeding putting the Birds up by 6 but Hampton answers, 62-58. Following a steal McKee connects 62-60 Fairmont... Hall drives into the lane and crashes into a Wayne defender... whistle blows... Charge? Block.... well, could of gone either way but it went against Wayne and Hall hits both... 64-60 Fairmont. Wayne's 3 point shot rims out... Fairmont would make 2 for free throws while misses another shot and it ends, Fairmont 66 Wayne 60.

Hampton led Wayne with 23 points, Landers 13, Cole 10, McKee 9, Long 3, Brian Hill 2

Bochenek would also score 23 for Fairmont, Hall 16, O'Daniel 13, Thompson 6, Reliford 5, Brown 2, Johsnon 1.

Wayne was actually 10 for 10 in the 4th qtr at the free throw line.

Wayne has a lot to work on as they did not look like a team for most of the game but individual players chucking up shots. They can only improve though as time goes on.

Wayne JV pulled out an exciting 69-67 3 OT victory......

Vandalia @ Wayne

Wayne jumped all over Butler early as McKee got it going scoring the first 5. Landers hits a 3, Long with a drive and Fancher with a 3.... 13-0 Wayne. Butler would answer to score the next 6 before Hampton hit to make it 15-6 Wayne after 1. Wayne though would be in serious foul trouble with both McKee and Hampton with 2 fouls.

Landers got Wayne up 17-6 to start the 2nd but Johnson came to live for Butler with a dunk and then a layup... 17-10. Landers for 3, good and then Cole would hit a 3 putting Wayne up 23-12. Butler would finish the half scoring the next 4 to make it 23-16 Wayne.

The 3rd qtr started well for Wayne as Hampton got it going and a McKee 3 put Wayne up 28-18 but both McKee and Hampton got their 3rd foul and Butler came back outscoring Wayne 14-2 and took a 32-30 lead after 3.

Kriel and one put Butler up 35-30 until Long stop the drought for Wayne and Hill off the bench got Wayne with in 1 with a layup and it was 37-36 Butler. McKee put Wayne up with a 3 and then another McKee basket and it was 41-37 Wayne. A pair of free throws by Hampton and Wayne was up 45-39 late but Wayne found a way to blow it. Wayne fouled a 3 point shot and Norman would hit 2 of 3. Following a missed front end up a one and one Kreil would drill a 3 to brink Butler with in 1 with 20 seconds left. Foul and once again Wayne missed the free throw Butler came down and missed but got the board and on the put back attempted Justice was fouled with .4 seconds left. He would make both free throws giving Butler the 46-45 win. The Butler student section stormed the court.....

I knew Wayne would struggle but Vandalia is the worse team on Wayne's schedule. Losing to them at home is an embarrassment. Wayne looked like they had no clue on how to attack the Butler zone. Up next for Wayne is Beavercreek.....

Dunbar is the worst team on Wayne's schedule this year and Butler is better than Beavercreek and probably the GWOC West teams except Northmont.

I would agree...they are the defending GWOC North co-champions and will likely win it again this year, not a bad team by any stretch. That being said, Wayne does play a tough schedule so generally speaking Butler was probably a game that Wayne fans looked at as a win. Butler wanted a shot at Wayne last year in the FTTH tournament but didn’t get it, so I figured they’d be up for this one.

Is Quentin Glover playing? Knew he had health issues last year.

That might be the case but the game was at Wayne, Wayne just does not lose at home... if my memory serves me correct only 3 teams has beaten Wayne at home EVER in that gym. Wayne losing at Butler, OK.... that can happen but not at home.... ever.... but it did.

Wayne is down, really down this year. Before the season started I picked them to go 6-16 and Butler was one of those wins.....

Beavercreek @ Wayne

Landers got the scoring going with a 3 as Wayne took an early 3-0 lead but Beavercreek would take a 6-5 lead when Moore hit a 3. Extend that to 8-5 as Herbort got on the board. A McKee and 1 got the game tied at 8 but Beavercreek would take the lead until McKee hit late in the first to give Wayne a 14-13 lead after 1.

Walther would get the 2nd started with a basket putting the Beavers back up but Cole for Wayne would go on a streak scoring the next 7 points for Wayne with the last being a 3 giving Wayne a 21-20 lead. Beavercreek would retake the lead and go up 24-21 with a Walther basket. Curry would come off the bench a drill a shot for Wayne at the half and we were tied at 25.

Wayne went up 27-25 as Hampton hits a pair of free throws, with the game tied Hampton with the steal and basket to put Wayne back up but Moore was pounding the boards for Beavercreek scoring their first 8 points of the qtr with 6 of them being off a miss shot. Wayne would get back in front 34-33 with a Landers and 1 but the lead would not last long as Beavercreek would score the last 4 points all by Strayhorn and Beavercreek led after 3 ... 39-36.

Wayne would quickly erase that as Hampton drove scored and 1 to tie it. Curry with a basket Wayne up 41-39. Landers connects, 43-39 Wayne. Moore stops the bleeding for the Beavers, 43-41. Hampton fouled, 2 free throws... good. 45-41 Wayne. Wayne would get up by 6 following a McKee and Long free throw late in the game but a Walther 3 got Beavercreek within 3. The Beavers fouled Hampton who made both, Beavercreek would add a pair of free throws to get within 3. Another foul and Hampton stepped up and hits both putting the game away. Wayne would steal the inbound pass and come away with a 53-48 win.

Hampton had a rough night shooting but he came through in the clutch at the charity stripe going 7-7 in the 4th and hitting his last 9 free throws..... that is getting it done.

Wayne still does not look good but it is December and they can only improve... well, I hope so....

Scoring for Wayne: Hampton 15, McKee 12, Cole 9, Landers 8, Fancher 4, Curry 4, Long 1
Beavercreek: Moore 17, Walther 12, Herbort 8, Hymes 4, Strayhorn 4, Seman 2, Duvall 1

----------------------------------------------

Up next for Wayne is Moeller... this one might get a bit ugly........

Wayne's JV stayed undefeated with a 48-24 win.

Moeller @ Wayne

Well, Moeller was coming into this game at 3-0 following a 99-62 win over Akron St.Vincent St. Mary which by the way was their closing game of the year. The states #1 team put it to Wayne tonight as expected. Wayne did score first and that was a Cole dunk but Wayne's last lead was at 5-4 and then it got ugly.

The final: Moeller 70 Wayne 48

Scoring for Wayne: Landers 11, McKee 9, Cole 8, Brian Hill 6, Fancher 4, Curry 4, Brenden 2, Hampton 2, Long 1, Lankford 1

Wayne drops to 2-3 and will host Miamisburg Tuesday night... this will be another tough match up.

The good news, Wayne's JV team remained undefeated with a 55-46 win over Moe JV's. Wayne was up by as much as 15.

Miamisburg 5-2 @ Wayne 2-3

Brian Hill got the start tonight for Wayne and he took advantage of that early starting the scoring with a 3 and then hit another shot to put Wayne up 5-2. Miamisburg would take the lead following a Barry 3 but Hampton would tie at 7. A Fancher 3 put Wayne up 10-9 and a Hampton basket late in the opening qtr put Wayne up 12-11 after 1. The Hall brothers combined for 6 points in the 1st and they would be a force in this game.

Landers would get the 2nd started with 2 free throws and a Cole basket got Wayne up 16-11. With Wayne now up 17-11 Miamisburg would go on an 8-0 run as Dane Hall was scoring inside and throw in a Hartman 3 but a Landers 3 would put Wayne back up 20-19. 5 more points though and the Burg were back up but a Fancher 3 got Wayne within 1. Hensley though would hit a three to end the 2nd with Miamisburg up 30-24 at the half.

The 2nd half would be the Landers/Hampton show as Landers with get hot from beyond the arc but Wayne could not stop the Burg bigs as they got up 36-27. Landers for 3.... 36-30, Landers for 3 again his 3rd of the qtr and just like that it is 36-33. The Viking would have an answer with back to back baskets but now it was Hampton's turn driving the lane and banking them in connecting on 3 straight shots and scoring 8 in the qtr as Wayne closed the gap to 42-41. Following a stop Wayne took the lead on a Cole basket but Barry would connect at the end of the 3rd to keep Miamisburg up 44-43.

Landers would get fouled on a 3 attempt and connect on all 3 to put Wayne up 46-44. Fancher hits, 48-46 Wayne a steal and basket by Hampton 50-46. Wayne got up by 5 following a Cole basket but the Viking clawed back as both Hall brothers would score and it was 52-51 Wayne with just over 2 minutes left. Hill would get Wayne back up by 3 scoring inside. Make it 5 as Wayne got a stop and a Hampton basket. Steal and another Hampton basket and Wayne is looking good up 58-51. The Vikings were forced to foul and Landers would hit all 4 but the Vikings were scoring as well. Following a couple of misses at the line a Duncan Hall and 1 got the Vikings within 2 at 62-60. Landers would hit another pair and Wayne would hold off winning 67-61.

Landers went 11-11 from the charity stripe tonight (9-9 in the 4th qtr) and led Wayne in scoring with 20. Hampton had 19 (15 of those in the 2nd half) Hill 9, Fancher 9, Cole 6, Long 3, McKee 1

Miamisburg was led by Duncan Hall with 17 and Dane Hall with 15.

Wayne improves to 3-3 and will host Centerville Friday night.

The Wayne JV team struggled at times but came away with a 43-39 win to stay unbeaten on the season.....

Nice win for Wayne tonight and hopefully they can get it going against the ELKS.

Centerville 3-3 @ Wayne 3-3

Rivalry game.... enough said.

Centerville jumped out to a 4-0 lead but Cole drained a 3. A Hampton basket put the Warriors up by 1 and another Cole basket and it was 7-4 Wayne. Cole would score 7 in the opening qtr. Fancher for 3... GOOD, Wayne 12-8 but the ELKS would regroup and score the final 6 oh the qtr. After 1, Centerville 14 Wayne 12.

McKee would tie it for Wayne to get the 2nd started. The defenses on both teams really stepped it up and it became a grind. With the ELKS up 20-16 Hampton would drill a shot and a Cole basket would tie it at 20. NJie would score on a put back at the buzzer.... 22-20 Centerville at the half.

NJie was a problem for Wayne in the first half and did not help that the officials allow him to camp out in the lane, he put up a tent got a fire going the whole works but I guess the 3 second violation no longer is called anymore even when someone is camped in there for 10 seconds..... I would complain about the officiating other than it is Centerville and everyone knows they get the calls... just ask Springboro and Fairmont this year both teams got screwed big time in the 4th qtr against the Elkies....

3rd qtr... Wayne clamps down on NJie and holds him scoreless. McKee hits a pair of free throws to tie it and a Landers put back put the Warriors up. 2 more free throws for McKee and Wayne is up by 4 with momentum. Wayne's defense is getting it done and then a huge shot by Long a 3 pointer at the buzzer and Wayne is up 33-28 after 3.

Make it 36-28 when Hampton lays it in and was fouled. A McKee 3 and it is 39-28 Wayne rolling. Hampton with the drive, 41-28. Once again the Wayne defense stops NJie holding him scoreless in the 4th as Wayne looked to be running away with it. Well, a couple of ill advised shot and some hot 3 point shooting by Pearce and the ELKS close within 4 but Wayne hit foul shots down the stretch and came away with a hard fought win 47-41.

Hampton had 15 for Wayne, McKee 13, Cole 9, Landers 4, Fancher 3 and Long 3. Wayne was 13-16 from the charity stripe.... (actually 14-16 but a violation took the basket away) that is getting it done once again.

Centerville was led by Pearce with 18, NJie 10 (all in the first half), Marchal 5, Sneed 4, and Archimalo 4. Centerville shot poorly from the charity stripe missing 8.

Wayne improves to 4-3, 3-1 in league and hosts Trotwood next Friday.

Wayne JV looked pretty good tonight handling the ELK JV 51-36. The Wayne JV was led by freshman Elijah Brown who I believe scored 18.

Since it is Centerville I will mention the freshman score.... Wayne 70 Centerville 25

The zebras were so bad it was comical. I wasn't paying attention as much to the 3 seconds as to the elbows in the back of the Wayne defender all night. Hope he doesn't have bruised kidneys or ribs. Also, a guy gets thrown to the floor gets called for a foul. Guy gets run over but gets called for blocking. Clean block of a shot called a foul. Absolutely terrible.

I had to lighten the mood by telling some of my favorite lore of past Wayne-Centerville games, like the "phantom timeout" game where Centerville got a 6th timeout due to scorekeeper mistake, and one where Staley started ranting "I will NOT have this game played with an ILLEGAL BALL!" causing the game to be stopped 30 seconds in for the refs to inspect the game balls.

It just seems like there's always something strange that happens.

Throw in the 20+ minute delay when Centerville introduces the cross country team players..... also, Cupps mysterious water on the court gimmick where he personally goes onto the court to clean it up taking his sweet old time... the Wayne game beater at Centerville in which the clock keeper gets fired the next day for not starting the clock early.... the mysterious fire alarms going off first at Centerville following a Wayne win stopping the Warriors celebration and then in the tourney game at the SAC delaying the start.....

I do miss Staley though... his antics are priceless.... !!!!!

I was very surprised to see them go 4 for 12 from the FT line. The big contradiction was Pearce who was deadly accurate on mid range jumpers and from three point range but missed every free throw.
