I agree with a lot on here (Mayo would be my first choice since he was averaging 20+ on varsity in the 7th grade), but one I haven't seen yet is 1996 Mr. Basketball Jason Collier from SCC. As a 7 footer, I always felt like he was a bit ahead of his time with his ability to bring the ball up the court and pull up from 3. You didn't see many guys that could match up with Shaq and step outside like he could. Averaging 17 and 9 at GT and almost scoring 1,000 points in 2 seasons there is pretty ridiculous.

No doubt Jimmy Jackson was the best I've ever seen play basketball in person. I did see Lebron play football once though.

I’m a small town guy who’s never been to Flying To The Hoop. Mostly limited to games with my YS Bulldogs. But there have been a few guys:

Dwight Anderson – quickest ever
Gary Bradds – surprised he had such a good career at OSU but I was too young to know better.
Ron Harper – most dominant defensive player I ever saw.

Charlie Coles was fun to watch when I was 11, averaging 42 points a game, but he was too short and slow to make the pros.

Jason Collier was hard to evaluate because he was so much bigger. My nephew sprained his back trying to fade away against him.
I played against Mike Pratt and Bobby Hooper who each had brief ABA careers.
I saw Adreian Payne several times but he seemed bored playing D4 high school ball.

Speaking strictly high school basketball, Jon Diebler. Vince Edwards from Middletown, Cumberland from Wilmington, the guy last year from Marion Local, Siebert from Princeton, Kingsbury from Hamilton, Keith Gregor from Lakota, Josh Duncan Moeller, Kennard from Franklin, a list of guys from Wayne, Springfield, Thurgood, dunbar, and Trotwood (dont know any of their names but pretty amazing players over the years). Yancy Gates, Kyle Rudolph, Tyrone Hill, Centerville has had a few. Who did the most for their team? I'd say Kennard and Vince Edwards.

Who is the best HS basketball player that you've seen in person?

Mark Macon From Saginaw Buena Vista, went on to be NCAA freshman of the year at Temple. Mid to late 80s

Not sure what happened to him after that, he faded away

There are a lot of big guys that don't get drafted #15 overall.

If anyone remembers Tony Lucas from Hartley in the middle 80's. Averaged over 30 ppg freshman thru junior year, led central Ohio in scoring all 3 years as well.

Watched him go 10/10 from the 4th quarter thru 3 overtimes in a game against Wehrle, who had 6/7 D1 prospects, and beat them.

Later that season he hit a runner from just inside half court in overtime to beat future state champion Desales with Dennis, Batross, Wallace and company led by Vince Chickerella.

Transferred to Maine Central Institute for his senior year.

Talk about a man amongst boys.

Jimmy Jackson at Macomber.

Family friend coached there and talked him up pretty good and he was worth it and more.

Kyle Greathouse- Lancaster High School. Same class as Lebron and was Div 1 player of the year. In my opinion probably would have been Mr Basketball had Lebron not been around.

When I was in high school, Andre Hutson of Trotwood, and Brooks Hall of Troy. After that, I can't say I've seen anyone in person better than OJ Mayo, when NCH throttled Versailles in a regional final.

1) Jason Collier was not drafted out of high school
2) Collier's talent was not being questioned. My inability to evaluate was the topic.

Chris Wight/Daquen Cook- as far a just excitement, these two packed gyms!

Nationwide
Lebron James, Best HS player ever
Gerald Wallace, saw him in Alabama at a tournament (man among boys)
Jason Kidd- Saw him in a tournament, fastest dude ever with the BBALL and his vision.
For the Dayton list, Did you ever see Carlos Knox play? He was unbelievable. Cant believe he is not mentioned. Col. White I believe. Knox > Tu Tu. But Tu Tu was unreal.

People sleep on Kidd speed, there was just someting with his stride. It did not "look" fast (maybe his build?), but he was one of the fastest ever with the ball in his hands.

Having a real nice Pro career also. Tragedy. His impact would have been better in todays NBA. The first part of the century was still a lot of backdown/bully ball. Didnt he break a backboard in high school?
