Question Who is the best HS basketball player that you've seen in person?

Who is the best HS basketball player that you've seen in person...not named LeBron James?

Being in SW Ohio, OJ Mayo jumps out at first thought. His NCH teams were pretty fun to watch.

Locally in the Lima Area
Greg Simpson
Aaron Hutchins

I saw DeAndre Ayton at Flyin to the Hoop when he was maybe a HS Soph, and while he wasn't super impressive the time I saw him he's obviously gone onto big things. I've seen a few others who've went on to play in the NBA at FTTH.

Saw Bragg (Kansas) and Payne (MSU), but they didn't overly impress me like the ones above.

Other than Kelly Olynyk, I'd say one of the standout players I saw play in person is Matt Cogan. I actually saw him play in elementary school for Ascension's CYO team. He's been a walking bucket since the 6th grade. Tall frame, lengthy, long wingspan, and the ability to go coast to coast. Excited to see him again this year in his senior campaign

OJ Mayo of South Point. Was NBA ready in high school. Andrew Wiggins was probably second best but wasn’t as NBA ready as Mayo.

Melvin Levitt - he played at St. Joseph and Euclid. The kid was a freak athlete and his in game dunks were insane. Tony Miller, Treg Lee, Eric Riley, Emanuel Smith, Duane Gibson come to mind from the teams I follow. Ed's has had some good ones Logan, Clancy and Roe come to mind. There has been so many great players in recent memory that have come through NE Ohio. Markell Johnson (East Tech), Bothwell (CCA), Cohill (Holy Name) etc. Many of the players I remember growing up were Joe's players because they always seemed to have players nobody else in our area had. I did see Wiggins play Mentor at a tournament and he was pretty impressive.

Got to watch a big tourney in Kentucky a few years back. Probably the best one there was Thon Maker.

Got to watch Chane Behanan when he was a kid and on my brothers team.

Awesome question. My list is weird and only focused in SWO.

Chris Carter (yeah, that one, only catches TD)
Carlos Knox

Then I have seen/played with almost every pro and D1 guy in person since about 1983 from SWO. No one is even close to those two.

You said Sullinger but what about Trey Burke? Deshaun Thomas was a manchild at Bishop lures!

Bingo GCPro---can't disagree on Aldridge and Grevey at UK and pro career (I played many 3 on 3 games in the family driveway with Grevey's younger brothers) in SW Ohio, but IMO Butch Carter at Middletown, Jim Paxson Alter '74 (played against) and John Paxson Alter (coached against) at 1978-79 AAA Regional are others who had great HS careers, college, and pros.

In Person at State Tourney I'd definitely take Gary Grant (singlehandedly won a championship for McKinley) and Clark Kellogg especially scoring 50 pts at St. John Arena--those were memorable games!

1) Magic Johnson
2) Kelvin Ransey
3) Clark Kellogg
4) Draymond Green

Well Lebron is clearly number 1. Had a friend who played on the Miami East team who played Lebron in I believe 01' ?? Sat pretty close to the court and had a first person view. It was astonishing.

Kennard is up there
OJ Mayo
Greg Oden
Anthony Davis
Daequan Cook
Jon Diebler
Romain Sato
Alex Carmona (might be 2 on my list)

Never saw Melvin on the court. On a football field yes. Someone brought him to a flag football tournament and dude could ball. Freak athlete is very accurate! He would of been a great receiver.

LeBron James
Jimmy Jackson

People forget that as far as HS kids go Jim Jackson was not far behind LeBron. He was a man child who could do it all.

Not the best but Ben Roethlisberger could have been a D1 player with pro potential.
