They also have horrible placement of the scoreboards in the corners and they are obstructed by the fold-up backboards. I have to look behind me to get a full view of a scoreboard. The seats behind the one basket are awkward and never really used.

For a good modern gym with intimacy, I like Mason a lot.

The scoreboards are in a bad place. But I was told that they will at some point get a roof scoreboard or even get scoreboards like Middletown. I will admit they could of done better with the seating behind the basket. It's still better than the old gym

Old gyms:
Canton Fieldhouse
Struthers Fieldhouse
Barberton's old gym was quite a place for a game.
I liked Akron Firestone's old gym much more than their new one.

All around athletic facility: Maple Heights's dome is nice. Nice main gym. Separate wrestling room. Pool. Running track. Multiple locker rooms. It was way ahead of its time at the time.

New gym:
I haven't seen it personally, but I saw it on TV last year. Middletown's new gym looked pretty special.

Barberton's newer gym is cool with their jumbotron.

I kinda like Glenoak's new gym as well. The balcony overlook. The banner down the middle of the gym is different but cool look.

Although I wasnít at Barberton for a basketball game but a Regional Semi Volleyball game in 2009, it was a really cool gym, felt like a smaller mid major school arena.

CCC: Small, visitors stands are on the stage. No windows and no ceiling fans, leads to no air circulation. Gets very hot, very quick.
VASJ: Nice layout, bad floor. See above.
Walsh Jesuit: Love the beehive wooden roof.
NDCL: Huge gym, huge floor. With the floor being one of the biggest around, makes for a nice home court advantage.
Lake Catholic and Padua: non-discript and ordinary.
Hoban: Worst gym in the NCL. Small. You have to walk in front of the visitors bench to get to half of the stands. Distracting to players and coaches.
Forgot one one of the best things about the Trueman Field House at Benedictine: get their early and go to the west windows and you will have one of the best views of the lighted skyline of downtown Cleveland.

That place is cramped and small and needs some serious updates or replaced. I like our own gym in Coldwater but it needs some updates too! I'd say one of my favorite places is where I played some CYO state tournament games and that's the gym at Toledo Central Catholic with the scoreboard hanging from the ceiling and the walkway where you look down into it. Then again I haven't seen as many gyms as some of you guys.

Iíve never been to Fairfieldís gym but seen pictures and from the appearance it seems like a good place to catch a game around the Cincy area. I dig the horseshoe shaped seating around the gym.

Favorite old/new school gyms and arenas in Ohio

A couple of cool gyms that formerly housed the Flying to the Hoop tourney and itís current home, Vandalia Butler Fieldhouse and Fairmontís Trent Arena. Also included is both the old and new Wade E. Miller gym and Arena. Middies fans, thoughts on the replacement of the historic gym? Like the new one?

Might be my age showing, but I Feel all the newly built gyms lack the atmosphere of the older gyms. Very nice though!!!

And also the Palace is one of the more unique gyms due its kitchen title playing surface that has been in tact for years. Prior Chanel also shared the distinction of having a title floor as well.

Speaking of the Purple Palace, as much as itís nice to have the gym renovated and up to date with new and much larger restrooms, concessions, storage, new baskets and new bleachers. I still miss and prefer the Palaceís old setup with the wood bleachers, hide away baskets and the closeness the old bleachers had of being right on top of the floor. Here are some pics of the old design of the gym before the renovations in 2014. The only thing left from 2003 updates when they switched from hanging baskets to hideaway baskets, storage booths and center hung scoreboard is the center hung scoreboard. Unfortunately I canít find any pics from in game pics of the previous version of the Palace, but here they are from a volleyball game and open gym.

Here is a couple of pics of Barbertonís gym. Their gym in my opinion feels like a D-I mid major college gym.

In Columbus, Africentric gym is nice! Newark High School gym is beautiful. Hamilton township gym is cute. Columbus Mifflin has a unique style to it.

The best GMC gymnasiums/ Arena's

1. Middletown - State of the art
2. Hamilton - State of the art
3. Mason - Classic big gym style
4. Princeton - Very nice, but need better scoreboards are move them
5. Fairfield - Just added new scoreboards, but need new bleachers
6. Oak Hills - Nice, but needs new bleachers, and more bleachers floor level
7 and 8. Lakota East and West - Both got new bleachers and new floors
9. Sycamore - They need a whole new building compared to the rest of the GMC
10. Colerain - New bleachers, but its just not a D1 type gymnasium

Canton Fieldhouse tops. Love they have all 4 old h.s. represented, McKinley, Timken, Lehman and Lincoln. My grandfather was principal at McK when it opened I believe. Also as a Mogadore alumnus, have to include the great old Mogadore gym. No longer standing, but when built was one of the best around. Small court, theater seating and stage at 1 and. When 3 point shots came into play and line was put on court, you had to stand with your feet sideways to make the shot! Also the lights hung low and a high shot would hit them!! Wish I had picture to share.

The Pit at Oakwood High School is old school and unique. 7 foot walls around the whole court with only 3-4 feet of space between the out of bounds lines and the wall. Visiting teams hate it.

7/8) East/West
9) Sycamore
10) Colerain

The industrial Arts building at Barberton (K Jack Greynolds Gym) was a true home court with benches on the end, a stage, a balcony with a loud and excited pep band, chair-back seats on both sides, and packed it every game with eager rabid fans!! Not a pretty place or even a classic gym but loved by all Barbertonians. Coaches like Raber, --??????...., Greynolds, Janiga, Cramer, Pimm, Suboticki, Velloney, Borchek, Hodanbosi, Forst and a ton of truly great players. How sweet it was!! Doubtful that many opponents even liked it but would admit that it was a real experience~!!!!

Anyone have pics from the old Greynolds Gym in Barberton? I know there is a two part video of the Barberton vs Cuyahoga Falls game from 91 on YouTube but doesnít show much of the entire gym. Could definitely tell the closeness of the sidelines though thatís for sure.
