West Clermont took down Winton Woods last night. Fun game and look forward to competing against them every year once they enter the league.

WC had now faced two future league members. Little Miami was not good. Sounds like WW was better but I didn't get to stay for the varsity game. We'll see what the Wolves really have on Friday when Walnut comes to the den.

I think Turpin should actually be pretty good. They return practically everybody from last season, they've got size, they've got some shooters.

Walnut has a transfer guard (I think from Bacon?) who will probably be top-5 in the league in scoring. Pair him with Nick Smith and they'll be competitive.

Obviously Withrow will be good with Lawal and Hill.

Loveland looks good so far -- they're scoring lots of points, wonder if they can stop anybody.

Anderson and Kings are probably bottom of the league this year IMO...I don't see how Anderson will score very much and Kings returns everybody from a pretty bad team.

Actually, last year, so many teams(Kings, loveland, milford, turpin) played a TON of young guys up(JV and varsity). This sophomore class in the ECC is stellar. In the next 2 years, these 4 teams, along with WC size and the recruiting of Walnut Hills....should be some tremendous basketball being played in this league. Perhaps as good as the ECC or old FAVC has ever seen.

Programs in ECC with double-digit (10+) wins in each of the last 4 years--it's not easy through a set of 4 classes to maintain that consistency in D-1:

Walnut Hills
Anderson

Wilbur's synopsis of the ECC is pretty accurate heading into the opening games--Walnut ought to continue their streak of 10+ win seasons, but Anderson is going to have to find some additional offense to get to 50+ points most nights--put up just 40 in the 46-40 opening game vs. Indian Hill although IH took the air out of the ball most of the 4th quarter making free throws to lock up the victory.

Withrow and Walnut should battle for the title, but Loveland, Turpin, West Clermont, and Milford will be capable most nights and Anderson and Kings will be pesky if teams aren't ready to play--interesting 2018-19 season!!

Should be some good league games tonight.
I would say that all 4 visitors are favored.
Loveland
Milford
Withrow
Walnut.

West Clermont 54 - Walnut Hills 46

Interesting game tonight. West Clermont jumped out to an early 15-8 lead before Walnut switched to a zone. The Wolves couldn't do anything against the zone and Walnut went on a 15-2 run going into halftime. West Clermont finally found their touch in the second half forcing Walnut out of the zone. West Clermont gradually pulled ahead then made enough free throws to win 54-46.

Walnut Hills is clearly not the same team as last year. I'm obviously biased but I feel West Clermont was clearly the better team. 6'10" Jr. Jackson Ames was the difference maker. His offensive skills need a lot of work but he dominated defensively, patrolling the lane and keeping Walnut's 6'-6" Jr. Nic Smith in check.

The conference race may be wide open this season. West Clermont and Loveland appear to be legit. Walnut and Turpin appear to be decent. I have no clue about Withrow after Turpin beat them tonight 51-25. I wonder if Withrow was missing some players. Milford and Kings should win some games. Anderson is going to struggle. This is a good league, folks.

Jackson Ames has really impressed me this year in the two games I have watched. His defensive ability changes games.

I'm stunned at that Turpin-Withrow score. Withrow was expected by some to be a top 10 team in the city this year.

From my view it would appear that West Clermont, Loveland, Turpin, Withrow, and Walnut all have legit chances to win the ECC this season. I haven't seen enough from Kings or Milford to anoint them contenders yet, and Anderson will probably finish last.

I did hear from a Turpin fan that Withrow was missing one of their outside shooters and Turpin day back in a zone.

Turpin beats West Clermont 70-51. Looks like the Spartans might be the class of the league this year.

Huh?

Did someone say Withrow is going to battle for the title? Did you see the score vs. Turpin? Lawal looked like it was the first time he'd been in a gym. They'll be lucky to finish fourth.

I think Loveland beats Walnut, but I agree with your other three.

Milford 57, West Clermont 46
Loveland 71, Walnut Hills 54
Turpin 52, Anderson 36
Kings 49, Withrow 47

Well, West Clermont has crapped the bed twice in a row since I declared them legit lol. Nothing else I can say there.

After another week of conference play I think the picture is becoming more clear. Loveland and Turpin are the class of the league. I am absolutely shocked how far Withrow and Walnut have fallen. I'd say West Clermont is probably dangerous enough to beat anyone on any given night, but also inconsistent enough to lose on any given night.

At this point I'd say:
Tier 1: Loveland and Turpin
Tier 2: Kings, Milford, Withrow, WC
Tier 3: Walnut
Tier 4: Anderson

I'm admittedly biased. WC may be closer to Tier 3 Walnut than the other Tier 2 teams. I don't believe that just yet, but things may certainly play out that way.

Nah, I'd put Walnut up there in Tier 2 and drop Kings down to 3. From what I heard, Walnut just came out flat last night and Loveland can absolutely fill it up and bury you if you don't play defense. I think Walnut will be fine. No way Kings finishes with a better conference record than Walnut.

Another full slate of league games tonight.
Milford at Anderson
Withrow at West Clermont
Kings at Walnut Hills
Loveland at Turpin

I see Milford as being the only visitor to win but I've been wrong a lot this year.

Looks like the Spartans are going to be tough to beat this year.
I'm not sure what's going on with Withrow. They have good players but just can't seem to put the ball in the basket. I bet they missed 10 shots within 10 feet in the first half last night.
