Heard a couple Tallmadge players that had varsity experience are not playing this year. Tallmadge should still be solid but they will be using some inexperienced players to fill those holes.

Also read that Highland's Jake Rogers is enrolling in January for football at Bowling Green. Not sure how much playing time he was expected to get at Highland but it will be a loss of a great athlete.

Rogers was the starting point guard for HHS his sophomore and junior year, so he certainly would have started. HHS has no big (as usual) but is athletic and can run. Profitt should be main scorer and will be hard to stop. The others are scrappy and athletic, so they will get their fair share of wins.

I think you meant 1st Qtr was Tallmadge 24 Boardman 19

Tallmadge looked impressive at times. Looked very balanced and played well as a team. Looks like they can get to the hoop with their athleticism, didn't rely a lot on outside shot.

Team was missing a few players who did not play due to injury. (1) a returning starter from last year and the other a player who got increasing minutes last year at the varsity level. Last quarter score very misleading vs Canton South as Tallmadge played guys to get them minutes and work.

Overall good first scrimmage.

With four starters graduating in May, itís not too difficult to figure out what the Tallmadge boys basketball team is lacking this winter.

ďWe definitely donít have the experience at the varsity level,Ē first-year head coach Bill Johnson said.

Fortunately, those players, who come in a bit green, will quickly get a taste of what life is like on Tuesday and Friday nights in prime time.

Itís a safe bet they will learn very quickly.

Suburban League Schedules and Standings:

http://pitmanstats.com/mbk/league.php?id=74&district=20

I have Barberton with 23 games - 12/1 vs. Firestone is not on Barberton's schedule but is on Firestone's schedule. Well, this makes me feel a little better: Barberton's ArbiterLive schedule has 23 games listed, as well.
Highland, Hudson, and Stow all have 21-game schedules, according to their sites.

Just curious what others think, should we turn this into a Suburban League thread for both divisions? Not much talk in the SLA. Maybe combining the discussion for both divisions would increase interest...

This might be a little late, but Copley's scrimmage opponents included: Shaker Heights, Beachwood, Solon, Garfield Heights, Bay Village, New Philly, Ellet, and a 4-teamer at Glenoak (can't recall the other 2 teams). From all accounts the Indians more than held their own, but I was unable to see any of them firsthand, so take that info for what it's worth. They open Fri night v a loaded McKinley team, so that should be very interesting for both teams. Both teams are coming off of very good seasons, and both teams lost some very good players. Bulldogs 1st game under their new (but very accomplished) coach. Early benchmark for both squads.

Copley did not shoot well from the outside tonight but McKinley D contested every shot. They are gonna be very good, nice mix of strong inside play with shooters and guys playing very disciplined ball. #10 for McKinley was particularly impressive. Emich & Vann played well for the Indians. Good crowd and almost a tourney-like atmosphere tonight. Both teams will likely win a lot of games this season. Fun game to watch.

Copley 72 Walsh 46. Tied after 1, Indians up 11-12 at half, blew it open in the 3rd. Walsh clearly in a full scale rebuild, likely to be a long season for the Warriors.

Ellet 88
Tallmadge 70

This game got away quickly. Tallmadge came out running and gunning and took a 9 point lead early. Tallmadge was up 28-21 after the 1st Qtr. Down 6 at half, then got blown out in the 2nd half. I think the coaches are still trying to figure out the rotation. Used a 7 man rotation (with an 8th that played about 5 min). The team was clearly gassed in the 4th Qtr. Hopefully, some adjustments are made. Losing by 18 to a very average Ellet team does not bode well for the SL schedule.

Dont be too hard on them, that Ellet team is a little better than average.
Tallmadge only really has 2 players. Lack of depth is a huge issue for them.

Iíll give you that...Ellet might be better than average. And Tallmadge has more than 2 players. They have 2 players featured, but they actually have kids that can play. The coaches are a bit timid because they donít have a ton of varsity experience. When he has played them extended minutes, theyíve done just fine. You cannot have players thinking that if they make a mistake, they get benched. That never works and players play tight. They have 8 or 9 guys that play just fine. But they play the starters and rotate 1 or 2 players for short periods. When you are a transition team, youíve got to use an 8-9 man rotation or no one has legs the 4th quarter. Just an opinion from an old dummy.

Pretty close game throughout. Tallmadge led by 11 in the 4th before giving up 8 straight points. Then it was back and forth the last 3 minutes until Aurora was forced to start fouling.

Watched Revere play the other night...they are pretty damn good even without Nance. Their benefit this year is they don't have just one player that opposing teams can focus. They have 3 or 4 guys that are pretty solid. They picked up a transfer from Hoban who lives in the district. Kid is a pretty good shooter. I think Revere finishes in the top 3 of the league this year.
