Great Friday for the Muskingum Valley League

This might be the best night ever for MVL football as far as league depth in the playoffs. 3-0 and all on the road.

Region 15
#7 Philo 31
#2 St. Clairsville 13

Philo plays Indian Valley in week 12.

#5 John Glenn 48
#4 Bloom Carroll 21

John Glenn plays Licking Valley in week 12.

Region 11
#5 Tri-Valley 27
#4 Marion Franklin 18

Tri-Valley plays Bellefontaine in week 12.

MVL has a good shot to win 2 or 3 of the week 12 games.

FYI: MVL teams from largest to smallest are: D3 Tri-Valley, Sheridan, Maysville, D4 John Glenn, Philo, Morgan, New Lexington, D5 West Muskingum, D6 Crooksville

I am not aware of the mvl ever winning 3 playoff games in a week. No doubt a good week. Favorable matchups for these three solid teams. Next round of games will be tougher but all three can realistically win. I am sure that Joh Glenn would be itching for a regional final rematch. Have 2 MVL teams ever met in the playoffs before?

John Glenn and Philo met in week 11 about 5 years ago. Philo won.

I think that Sheridan and Philo played week 11 back in the 80's. I found it. In 1985 Sheridan beat Philo in the playoffs.

R15 isn't exactly tough as nails this year, so it's actually feasible that JG and Philo could meet for the title. JG will need a couple breaks to get past LV, IMO. Philo should handle IV.

I agree about the toughness of this region this year. I remember talking with you th last time LV and JG matched up, 2005 in zanesville. How do you feel about them this year?

LV can be a really good team at times this year. Have had some issues with the defense, seemed to had figured things out and then two season ending injuries set them back again. Offensively the line has come a long way and if the passing game is on they can score a lot of points. There was a 4 or 5 game stretch where I don't remember seeing a punt with the 1st team in. Big play capabilities, which probably hurts the defense by time of possession and they give up more than otherwise . 4 guys that are capable of scoring on big plays, lost the 5th to injury week 9. It sure is weird seeing LV win games 42-28 instead of 21-14 with a ball controlling run game and tough defense.

Johnstown was definitely the toughest team that we have played so far and our offense was clicking that night and we were up big before they settled in.

Well, this JG team is definitely different than 2005. The single wing is history, and the Heacock kid can throw the rock pretty well. I don't see this one being a 17-6 game by any means...more likely 35-28 or something along those lines.

My heart wants to pick the Muskies, but my head says LV will find a way to win it.

I agree that will be a much higher scoring game than in 2005. Winning team will score 30+ points.

Tri-Valley will lose by 30+ next week. They have no chance of beating Hartley.

Is Heacock of any relation to the Heacock brothers Jon or Jim (nephew?) I donít know how common the surname is, but they both had playing or coaching stints early on at Muskingum, so I figured Iíd ask.

And unfortunately the winner of the Philo/JG game will be the sacrificial lamb against Steubenville if they beat Perry.

Yes he is...I’m not sure which one, but he’s the son of one of the Muskingum Heacocks.

Bow down to the MAC!

Well done, MVL.

Am I correct in assuming that Philo / JG will be at Zanesville? Can’t see why it’d get relegated to Maysville.

I believe the John Glenn QB (Heacock) is the son of the former Muskingum College head coach (was there a couple decades). Jeff? maybe.

Tri-Valley is the 2nd best team who made the playoffs in Region 11. I understand the prize is Hartley. They will give it their best shot. No pressure on the Scotties.

I would also guess JG-PH will be at Zanesville.

You'd think fans of a conference that has been so successful for so long would no longer have an inferiority complex.
