Massillon vs East St Louis

Gatehouse publishing (owners of the Repository and Independent) sent award-winning journalist Christ Easterling to do a four part series on the East St louis team and community. This is the second of the four installments:

http://www.cantonrep.com/news/201807...eep-football/1

Am I missing something here? Are they reaching for a comparison between the two communities (If so, I don't see it).Are they just trying to save a dying paper? Or is it just summer reading, much ado about nothing?

He made it out of East Saint Louis but I suspect his approval rating in the hometown of The Independent has taken a hit. The piece is designed to highlight the similarities of the two communities. That's a pretty unflattering look for Massillon when it's being compared to a city which recently was said to have had the highest homicide rate of any city in the United States.

(By the way, I thought all four choices in the poll were appropriate but I was only allowed to select one.)

I dunno. Still trying to figure out the angle here (newspaper guys always have an angle).

Could just be a homer hype piece (make the opposing team look great puts you in a win-win situation).

Maybe its just so we all can feel good about where we live ? Let's see the rest of the story.

What is the point of this poll ?
It is crystal clear to me, who started it and who was the 2nd to post it must be for the Massillon obsessed trolls to have something to talk about this summer.

Having stopped for gas in both communities, I prefer Massillon when getting gas

Steubenville might have been the better comparison.

Correct. Those two towns are two sides of the same coin. Exception being that Steuby (like East St louis) has won recent championships on the field.

When will give up your obsessive negative opinions of everything is Massillon? Your comparison of Massillon and Steubenville is laughable.

Interesting. I suspect this is the same thing those in Steubenville are saying about being associated with Massillon.

What does that say?

The Massillon obsession lives on. The jealousy that you have is so admiring, it must be rough to read about a team on the Tiger schedule in OCTOBER, and not a peep about the girls in purple. LMAO

Will this game draw a good sized crowd, weather permitting?

My guess is 5,000

The booster club isnít going to pay a team to travel 12 hours to get beat. I donít think my fellow Massillon faithful will come out to see the Tigers was a team by 30 points.

Iíd rather see us take the challenge and schedule a Iggy or a team alike.

Always with the "my" and "us" LOL. You sure try hard I'll give you that but what a loser. What year did you graduate again?

Think Hoover will turn the corner this year or have you completely give up?

Not sure if you are saying Massillon is going to win by 30 or lose by 30? I'm surprised either way. I thought it may be a real good game. I've never been to PBTS and was targeting this as a possible good game to see. But would rather not travel that far for a 30 point blowout? Fill me in on your thoughts and reasoning. You would know more than I would. Thanks for any insight.

Idk much about this team but our out of state opponent last year was a loss to a pretty impressive team from NY, led by a D1 Qb recruit. I hope they are good, but maybe not that good, lol.

Meant to type wax a team by 30, but that darn autocorrect!

The booster club isnít going to pay for a loss in my opinion, sure ESTL has some individual talent but those inner city teams donít play as one unit and usually give up once their down.

Iíd recommend coming to the Massillon McK game, maybe the same outcome but better atmosphere

Massillon vs. McKinley is a game that I have wanted to check out for awhile. But it always seems to fall the same day as Ignatius vs. Eds. So I have been going to that game. But this could be the year. Rumor is Iggy vs. Eds might be on Friday night at First Energy, and Massillon vs. McKinley is on Saturday. I could finally see both games. That is my hope!!

Last year, the game against Canisius NY was attended by 4841 on a dry night with temperatures in the upper 60's.

Massillon attendance has been trending down. ESL might not bring 100 fans.

Give us the team whose attendance has been trending up over the last 5-10 years. Nobody would be surprised if ESL didnít bring 100 fans.

Some of you guys above are really dense. I was comparing E. St. Louis with Steubenville, not Massillon.

There's no mistaking Steubenville's schools with those of Massillon. According to Ohio's Department of Education's Report Cards, Steubenville's are performing much, much better.

Wow! Comparing those report cards is quite surprising. Has Steubenville gone through some kind of educational renaissance?
