Brent Cahill out as coach of Jonathan Alder

Jonathan Alder will hopefully be in line to a worthy new basketball coach for an attractive district with historically good athletics.

Cahill's record at Alder was mediocre. Very good x's and o's coach but had an ego and a temper bigger than Madison County. Not the best match for Plain City, Ohio

Best wishes to both Coach Cahill and JA Admin as they turn the page in this basketball chapter.

He did a great job considering it’s a baseball/football school. What happened? Did they let him go or did he resign?

That's mediocre? His teams played elite defense (once held a team scoreless in the first half) and were typically amount the top 10 in Division 2 in Central Ohio, although they could never seem to get over the hump in the tournament.

I guess the administration finally had enough of that temper. Do you know if it was any specific incident or just years of pushing his luck? He's an old school coach in a changing landscape, though that doesn't excuse him from going too far.

Be careful what some wish for. I guess Johnny and Jimmy going home to cry won again. The splineless administrations and boards continue to tear down the structures of athletics in this country. And people wonder why they can’t get good, solid coaches.

I'd be willing to say if he was kinder and gentler, they'd be looking at a bunch of 12-10 seasons instead of 18 win seasons.

Very solid record in recent years. Not so much before that. Not sure on the reason why? I've heard things but take everything as small town gossip.

If MaxPreps is even remotely accurate Cahill won 20+ games his first year, had a losing season his second year, a couple .500ish season and then averaged 17 wins the last four years. Five good to really good years, two average years and one bad year. I wouldn't consider that to be mediocre by any stretch. I don't think they ever really got anywhere in the tournament, but D2 central district has been very competitive as of late at the top.

I saw Alder a couple times this year as they've recently joined a league that's more in my area, and I thought they appeared to be very well coached.
