Eligibility Question

Student currently goes to School A and plays Football and Baseball. He is looking to transfer to school B and play the same sports. He will most likely open enroll with no transfer exemptions. Does he need to sit the second half of season for football and baseball or only football?

Best advice? Unless school A's educational system and coaching situation is totally broken down stay where your at. 40 years later in life you'll be glad you did. But most people on here will tell you differently.

Yup. Based on the information given, 2nd half of the season plus tournament in any sports played at the previous school during the 12 months prior to the official transfer date.

This is what I have been trying to tell the student and parents but keep getting shot down with "Only football".

To answer earlier question:
Education system is questionable. Coaching is superb for fb and subpar for bb.

Have them go to the OHSAA website:

https://ohsaa.org/Eligibility/Transfer

"If a student transfers at any time after the fifth day of the studentís ninth grade year or after having established eligibility prior to the start of school by playing in a contest (scrimmage, preview/jamboree, Foundation game or regular season/tournament contest), the student shall be eligible, insofar as transfer is concerned, for ONLY the first 50% of the maximum allowable regular season contests (including all scrimmages, preview/jamboree/Foundation games) in those sports in which the student participated (participation being defined as playing in a contest) during the 12 months immediately preceding this transfer. This transfer consequence shall remain in effect until the one-year anniversary of the date of enrollment in the school to which the student transferred, at which time the student is no longer considered a transfer student.

After the first 50% of the maximum allowable regular season contests have been competed, the student shall then become INELIGIBLE for the remainder of the regular season contests. Furthermore, the student shall also remain ineligible to participate in the OHSAA sponsored tournament(s) in those respective sports until the one-year anniversary of the studentís date of enrollment. A student who did not participate in an OHSAA recognized sport in the 12 months immediately preceding the transfer is not subject to the consequence of this transfer bylaw."

So that means the McK kid who was a line backer an second leading tackler as a 10th grader had to transfer to Perry cause of a parent dispute AKA break up, can only play the first 5 games of the season an sit out the last five games an not play against his old team.

Not necessarily; there are 11 exceptions, he might qualify for exception 1- Parents' Bona Fide Move into a New Public School District: or Exception 2- change of legal custody.

If there is an academic issue or is very unhappy then who is to judge? Though if he is already or junior or senior-to-be that is quite a price to pay unless his parents move. Most make that decision before freshman year. Or maybe sophomore.

Parental breakup or change of custody will get an exemption every time.
