Merging districts would affect admin more than teachers

If you combine districts, you still need teachers to teach the students. The real saving is in administration costs and building heating. By combining school district, eliminates one set of everything from HR director, super, accounting and so on. Teacher might lose some in a merger but admin and people who work at district level get crushed by it. As far as Ursuline and Cardinal Mooney go...the move seems like a good idea considering the location of current school and how obsolete that school is. A new modern building in a better neighborhood might be a better recruiting tool for students in the burbs. The two will combine in a decade or so when population of the area and each school continues to plummet. Don't see jobs coming back to Y-town anytime soon to offset losses.

I can forgive them for that.

Good thing it wasn't in a public school. This was a good whitewash.

Like Bishop Murry said "Case closed". No adults were charged either.

Good points.

I question the notion of a school building being outdated......heck Notre Dame, Harvard and Yale have buildings that are 150 -200 years old.....Its one of the key selling features to prospective students. You can go to almost any college campus and find buildings 80-150 years old and they are still using them. This notion of outdated is silly.

If a 130 -200 year old building at Harvard, Yale, Columbia or Notre Dame is OK....then a 60 year old building on Erie St. should be just fine.

Harvard. Building was built in the year 1720.

Still used by the President and upper management of the school

The question of consolidation isn’t a problem with teachers. It’s a problem for the RESIDENTS of the communities involved. Identity, tradition, history not to mention the change of school location, bussing issues AND athletic identity are involved. See the maniac at Harding who coughs up booster money only as long as the red color from old Harding is worked into field, uniforms, etc. Old grads don’t accept change. School kids embrace it.

While public schools are the ones who normally deal with it, the parochials are not short of vanity.

Well stated and true about some "old grads".

A merger will never happen as long as certain people are in charge and certain people are writing the checks.

.
Although I am on old grad of Harding, I did not think that the red on the turf was necessary. Itís been almost 30 years since the merger and the kids donít really care about it. However, that ďmaniacĒ has been a great supporter of Warren city schools and the kids have benefited immensely from his support.
