Eaton is a pretty good size school, looking at enrollment numbers they have roughly 291 boys in the high school, and yet they only had 36 on their football roster. Seems like the participation is down some.
Eaton is going through a rough patch of lazy uninterested kids. Their numbers are going up. In a school of that size, two or three classes with low numbers will kill your program for awhile. I have been to many of their practices and Brad and his coaching staff get the most out of his players, there just isn't that much there. Give them time. Heard their freshman class has some good numbers and are pretty athletic.

As for Coach Neanen, he saw what was coming up and bolted at the right time.

Oakwood is in the same boat. I'm not sure I would say the kids are "lazy", but uninterested for sure. It seems to me there are so many factors that are causing this. I'm sure we can all think of them.

My question is, is it going to change? If so, who are the people going to help get the kids interested again in sports? Or is it just cyclical and it is what it is? At Oakwood, I don't see things changing for the better in the near future. Football here is dying fast and other sports are starting to suffer.

Hate to here that about Oakwood. They were our arch enemy when I was in HS. Dirt Farmers vs City Slickers.
Oakwood is a wonderful community but very liberal and that might mean the parents keep their kids out of contact sports more than conservative parents. Liberals tend to be more passive and therefore won't allow their children to play football.
I'm seeing the day that pee wee dies.
Of course I could be completely wrong. Football is alive and well in Miami County and West Milton.

One thing about Oakwood is that they offer some other opportunities that many small schools do not. I know they're doing a great deal of developing at the youth select soccer level. Their new Lacrosse stadium is also very unique for that size of school. Simply put, there are a great deal of options and unique opportunities at Oakwood.

Oakwood has great athletes everywhere. It's just the question of what is popular with the kids playing.
The Jacks are going to always upset sometime.

Here is the state of Oakwood football.

Pee wee program down in numbers and was asked to leave the SWBL because we can't field a team for each grade.

Jr. high had to combined the 7th and 8th grades to have enough players to have a team. Looks like this trend will not be going away soon.

JV has had only 11-15 available players each Saturday. They either cancel the game or they play, where most kids play in positions they never practice in while also playing both ways.

Varsity hasn't had a winning season since 2008.

These are the facts and I wish I had an answer on how to turn things around.

For awhile you think its a cyclical thing, but I don't see it changing. I know about all the reason why they don't play, but we need to give them a reason to play. Something that stands out from other options they have and they have a lot of options. Something that turns them and the parents on to football. I guess we only keep fighting the good fight. Go Jacks!

Jack. Oakwood has to turn the ship. They've been our rival for close to 50 years.

To be honest I donít think a lot of public schools wonít have football in the near future. Kids love soccer and football dying bc of potentially head injuries (yes I know same risk in soccer). I think VV pee wee numbers are up this year

I wouldn't go as far as to say a lot of public schools won't have football in the near future, but I do think the numbers could stay down some. I won't go through all the details of why kids don't play as much anymore, we all know them, but I will say that I believe it will come and go in waves for a lot of schools.

I can state that the public school where I live actually has the best numbers we've ever had in the program history, it just hasn't translated to wins. I think the numbers are high for us because the coach has made it very easy for kids to come out and play. He's not as strict in the off-season and not as tough as he probably should in general. Which is why we have a lot of kids, but the team just isn't very good.

TVS, we had 46 boys on the football team last year. I don't ever recall having that many on the football team before.

Too bad for Oakwood. I wonder if high school football will be around in 10-15 years.

football

I live in Georgia and high school football is not going away for lack of kids anytime soon. They have two weeks of spring practice which started this week. The state track championships were last weekend because they do not want it to conflict with spring football. Boys soccer is a SPRING sport in Georgia because they do not want the conflict with fall football. The spring weather is better in Georgia which allows for this to happen as opposed to Ohio but the state level is very supportive of high school football which is not seen in all states.

TVS having 46 is a big deal. Milton had 82 on my son's team back in 2011. Didn't build anything. Unless they are platooning those extra kids will bail. 82 was a high for MU, Ever.
