It's important to note that all of these people are being paid for the rest of their contracts.

They will be paid at their current rates unless they find another job. If not, they are paid to sit at home.

I wasn't a fan of Robin Lundberg. I regret feeling like I contributed to his demise now that we have Golic Jr by himself.

Did anyone catch the end of the NFL draft? I was half watching/listening and I thought I heard Kiper say something along the lines of "We'll miss you Todd, I loved working with you." Not an exact quote but something like that.

Makes me wonder if Todd Mcshay could be another to be let go...

Looks like ESPN fired 10 or so NBA guys in order to bring in Woj from Yahoo. Dang. Definitely an upgrade from Stein but they cut out a few quality beat writers, as opposed to reporters like Stein and Woj, to do so.

Pretty heartfelt moments for Ryen Russillo in the opening moments of yesterday's show. He was actually off all last week when the ax fell on Danny Kannell. Interesting, the week before after the Friday show, he thought HE was being let go. He told alot of folks goodbye and spent last week in Cal looking for houses. Imagine his shock?

Also, it was originally reported that Russillo was going to take a reduced role at ESPN and he said that's absolutely false. He's actually doing more, and he's under contract until next summer. But talk about transparency or he's a really good actor, but he was truly hurt with the layoffs, especially Danny, who he'd become very close to - he and his family. I don't think his bosses knew how he was going to open the show yesterday.

Honestly, yes it did. It's difficult for everyone involved to follow through with a plan like this. The bosses are not evil, it's what bosses have to do unfortunately sometimes.
There wasn't a big surprise that changes were coming at ESPN, it's just the shock of who and when. Everyone has to eventually move on. A little unusual because broadcasting is such a public business. If it's 100 factory workers in your hometown, you don't bat an eye at it as we don't necessarily know them.

Much ado about nothing. Simple economics. Millennials don't want to pay for TV, cable hasn't responded well to new competition, etc.

Today was the last episode of the Sports Reporters. The show definitely lost its touch when Dick Schaap passed away, but it's still sad to see a Sunday morning staple for the last 20 years go away. Now it will probably be replaced with more terrible SJW programming.

Always wondered why Sports Reporters were only on Sunday mornings? The main demographic for that show (males 50 and over) are in church Sunday mornings. I think that show would work better in a weekday evening slot.

And yes, as someone posted earlier, being smug was about the only way on the show. I mean, does anyone like the whiney Mike Lupica?? Jackie McMullen? The only semi young guy on the show is that Israel Guiterrez....who's just an odd duck, in more ways than one, if you know what i mean.

I don't think they'll get many calls from people missing that show.

It's the principle, they're cutting out the serious journalists again. And yeah, Guttierez is gay, but he's not one of the SJW types that shoves it down viewer's throats. Kay Fagan is the absolute worst at that. Probably won't be much longer until they find their token Trans reporter.

So why do you watch that sht then? I agree that ESPN''s programming is mostly garbage; that's why I quit watching years ago.

Deadspin has done pretty much the same thing and is now completely unreadable, so I stopped reading the site.

I only watch it on occasion, if the panelists are decent. I never got into Deadspin or Barstool, I don't like the "TMZ" side of sports

I heard Whitlock talking about his article today on Clay Travis's show this morning. Somewhat ironically, the only reason I flipped over to fox from Mike and Mike was they were having Bomani Jones on next.

Whitlock's consistently stood his ground, even when BLM or the Black Media pressures him. He actually stood up for Don Imus after the incident with the Rutgers Women's team.

I always get a kick out of people who take "sports journalism" so seriously. They're covering people playing a game. It's barely a step up from Hollywood red carpets. I don't feel the need for a strong 4th estate in athletics.

That said, ESPN's programming sucks. But I'm not going to lament the loss of "serious journalists" like Mike Lupica.

Tim Tebow and ESPN have reached a contract extension to keep him on the SEC Network's weekly pregame show as a college football analyst.

I find it interesting that ESPN is catching hell while the same people are praising Fox.

Didn't Fox just hire a lot of the same people from ESPN (bayless, Cowherd, Whitlock) that drove people away?

I thought the same. Also thought it was interesting how so many people know so much about all the guys the don't like. Seems to me they watch them often to know so much about them.

I listen and watch espn every day. Don't agree with a lot that they've done, and they have some bad shows, but it's way better than fox I will tell you that.

If Russillo can get Adnan Virk to join his show permanently, it'll end up being better than Russillo and Kanell

One more thing:

All this stuff about ESPN lately is more attention and publicity than they have had in years.

Certainly more entertaining than the NBA playoffs.
