Week 9: Elder vs. St. John Vianney

I'm expecting a great game tonight. Slight edge to Elder, because of the travel for Vianney coming from St. Louis.

Keep a close watch on #20 Kyren Williams for Vianney. He verbally committed to Notre Dame over the summer. He's listed as 5'9"/5'10" 190lbs with speed obviously.

Maxpreps preview
Quote:
Vianney have been homebodies their last two matches, but they are heading out on Friday. It's a road trip for them as they take on Elder at 7:00 PM. Vianney are expected to win -- but not by much -- so they will need to come into the contest prepared for a fight.

After having lost a blowout in their matchup two weeks ago against Christian Brothers, Vianney were happy to find some success last Friday. Vianney took the match and then some with a 77-31 win over St. Mary's last Friday. Followers of Vianney probably expected little less of the team in a season in which they have collected three blowout victories.

Meanwhile, Elder might have drawn first blood against Winton Woods, but it was Winton Woods who got the last laugh. Elder lost to Winton Woods by a decisive 10-28 margin.

Vianney's victory lifted them to 7-2 while Elder's defeat dropped them down to 4-4. We'll find out if Vianney can add another positive mark to their record or if Elder can shake off the loss and take the spring out of Vianney's step.

Grade School night tonight - I know the GCYL Westside teams had their Bandit Bowl last weekend. Hopefully the weather holds off and everyone can enjoy a great football game.

Omar been reinstated yet? He could interview the MVP of the Bandit Bowl at Half so we can hear from the future of Elder Football!

Feels like a do or die game. Hoping E can get the job done tonight.

Hope the Weather doesn’t kill the Offense again. Was ashame to see such “tough” young men fold in the 2nd half last week because of some steady rain.

Unfortunately, the weather is looking almost identical to last week. I don’t know how good Vianney’s DBs are, but WW’s killed E by taking away those short/intermediate timing routes E is so good at. E was forced to throw low % passes down field, and obviously it didn’t work out well.

Vianney probably won't be as stout or quick across the line as WW. Need to get the running game going - otherwise it'll be tough sledding.

Not sure what you are looking at, but the weather looks pretty good. Maybe a little wind.

Earlier today it showed 50% showers at 7p, 80% at 8p and 90% at 9p. Looks like they've backed that forecast back by 1 hour now. Doesn't look promising though. Definitely rain around the area.

Wow, was this expected? Thought Elder would be in a dog fight until the end.

27-7 at half. Vianney scores on a 60 yd TD by Williams, also moved the ball inside the Red Zone on their final drive, but ran out of time.

What is with changing cameras mid pass every time? This is almost too frustrating to watch.

No, but Vianney showed some life after the TD. They get ball to start the 2nd Half. E played a near perfect 1st Qtr, but seem to loosen up in their tackling. They can’t let this turn into the Clarkson game where they let a lesser team hang around.

E recovers fumble inside 20. Bittner throws beautiful TD to Royer, 34-7.

Vianney playcalling is questionable. They keep trying to hammer Elder bw the Tackles instead of getting the ball to Williams on the edge or in space. Williams is about the only player they have, he’s played RB, Wildcat QB, WR, S, and Punter.

Props to the o-line. I get on them when they don't provide the time or open up holes, so have to give them props when they protect Bittner and allow Massminster to run for 5 touchdowns

Definitely odd play calling and clock management by Vianney. First game I have seen and couldn’t tell you what Offense or philosophy a team operates under. Clock management by the Vianney Coach at end of 1st Half was awful and he had all 3 timeouts. Talked to few fans from Vianney and they are D5 with D6 being the highest in Missouri. Start playoffs in Nissouri next week.

The Elder O-Line did play very well and it’s amazing what a RB can do when given the ball!

I know Vianney’s DL is relatively small, but if they could just play at half of that level every week, it vastly improves the Offense. Posters saying E doesn’t have a real RB forgot how well Massminster played at the lower levels and early last yr.

I assume that Elder lost the coin toss last night (since they got the ball first), but still won the game.

Hell think everyone forgot about him because they normally don’t give him the ball that much! Was actually kind of refreshing not watching 15 QB Draws. Would really make my day if next week the D shut’ em out!

The running plays were taking too long to develop and the Line wasn't able to hold blocks on those Counter and Draw plays they run. They're much more effective with the "quick hitter" type of plays they ran last night.

As for LS, I can guarantee Elder will have a far more difficult time running the ball vs that Front 7. All 3 LBs are playing at the next level (Ingle- UC, Uran- Akron, and Bledsoe- Albany). Their Secondary is extremely athletic with at least 2 D1 prospects in Jarmon and Johnson, but very young as 3/4 are Sophs.

Offensively, LS has loads of skill talent but a rather undersized OL and QB that's limited in the Passing Game.

Was told that LS been starting 6 Sophomores or more on D because of injuries. LB good but X put up some points on them.
