Ft. Loramie

Not sure I would ever count out Maplewood or McDonald either.

EC was dominate in large talented fields at Tiffin and Boardman. They’re well coached. Another team would have to have a very special day to get them, in my opinion. But, that’s why we go ahead and run the race before the awards ceremony . . .

At Tiffin EC beat Fort Loramie by 100 points. They match up well with EC at the one thru 3 runners They fall off a little at number 4. The difference is at the 5. There is over a minute gap between Fort's first two and number 5. On any course and all season that difference hasn't gotten any smaller. Fort is a closer match up with Maplewood.

Ft. Loramie's 1-5 gap is down to 1:35 ish, but more importantly their #4 has closed the gap by about 1:00 from Tiffin. They have a chance. They are going in the correct direction. Tiffin was over half a season ago.

The average scoring points in boys D3 for the last two seasons with that amount of gap is 67 points. If their number one is around 10th in the team scoring. Leesburg team is similar to several teams we had in the recent past. We finished third twice and runner up once. They have a shot

East Canton didn't dominate the field like at Spartan. Smithville,McDonald and Gilmour kept it real close in the front. Leesburg is better then McDonald in the front. I'm saying
1A. East Canton.
1B. LEESBURG
3. McDonald
4. Fort Loramie

Less then 20 points will seperate the top 4 teams.
It is very difficult for a talented team to keep improving and staying on top for two months ....

Yeah, it's shaping up to be tight at the top, and I'm sure Coach Sternberg knows his group is running as the favorites (even if not super-dominant favorites), which is a hard thing to manage sometimes for HS kids. Looking at the whole season of performances, it seems the top 6 teams could be fairly close (by state meet standards) to the top 4. Tiffin is an indicator but some things have changed since then.

My pick for top 4 in a message to a fellow coach the other day was:

1. Leesburg
2. EC
3. Ft. Loramie
4. McD

After that, gosh...my thinking is it'll be some combination of GA, Smithville, Mt. Gilead, Col. Acad., NL, and Lib. Ctr. but probably not in that order. If a team is hungry, upsets happen and they're fun to watch, but painful to receive.

This will be a fun race to say the least. After looking at the races and comparing the years past (since 2007) the Pickerington regional ran abnormally fast and I feel the typical 20-30 sec drop to state will be hard to replicate. The weather looks ideal so I could be wrong. The data generall shows that you carry over tiffin Times, subtract 10-15 for Troy, subtract 20-30 for Pickerington and subtract 30-40 for boardman when putting in regional times to indicate state Times. Obviously boardman altered their course and conditions often skew the times but last weekend looked like pretty nice conditions across the state as well as today too.

I say all this because... leesburg really performed well last November and possibly outran their own expectation so something special could be in store for them but I feel like EC runs a typical race and they are state champs. 19 years after coach sternberg last lifted the gold trophy. McDonald could seriously challenge for the other trophy. Just a feeling that it goes
1. EC
2 McDonald
3. Leesburg
4. Columbus Academy
5. Fort Loramie

Chad Johnson 15:33. What's the course like? Slower due to the rain this week? Thought he might get a 15:10 or so.

Must be soft, or maybe that steep climb over the drag strip right before the 2 mile was harder than anything he and many others have encountered all season ?

Winning times do seem to be on the slow side. It happens.
