Wearing a face mask during a race

Does anyone have any insight as to whether an athlete can wear a mask over his/her face during a race to help with asthma? Would this require a special medical permit from the OHSAA?

I would not ask for medical purposes. Officials and ohsaa are on a need to know basis.

My guess is that they would be legal just like gloves and hats. It's weather related garment

Billed caps need a waiver but stocking caps and sunglasses do not so I would think a mask would be ok.

Thanks! I emailed Dale Gabor to ask just to be safe. Don't want to leave anything to chance in the post season.

I would probably allow it under the logic that there is no rule that specifically forbids it. The Games Committee does have authority to limit things in excess of the required uniform (for instance, the GC could stipulate that arm sleeves are not allowed). But, I have yet to come across such a stipulation at any contest, regular season or tournament.

When in doubt, ask the referee before the contest. If you really want to be doubly sure, take a picture of the athlete wearing the mask and and e-mail Dale Gabor.
