Marion Local vs Versailles

Marion Local def. Versailles 52 - 47. Tigers better figure out the box and 1 otherwise it will be a short play-off run for Versailles. Justin Ahrens had just 7 pts. for Versailles. For ML if the Flyers can get a 3rd scorer to go with Bruns and Mescher they could go along way in the tourney.

Exactly what is said walking out of the gym. They are gonna see a box and one here on out until they prove they can attack it. Both Arenas boys seemed frustrated.

I believe Marion's three guards combined for a total of only 5 points in this game. As Stirred mentioned, someone else in the top 7 must add to the points that Bruns and Mescher are putting up to provide some offensive balance.

Marion played very well against Versailles. The various players executing the 4-man box on d did so excellently - they all seemed to know their assignments and carried them out decisively. Rebounding is somewhat of a concern for ML. I think Tyler Mescher creates space better than anyone I've ever seen in hs ball - he posts up extremely well and bulls his way to the basket once he receives the ball. The fact that the officials allow so much shoving helps him.

Versailles is obviously quite talented even beyond the Ahrens brothers (Kyle Jones had an excellent first half with 12 points) - and they're well coached. They'll get the box and 1 figured out and should do well from here on out.

Not a real basketball X&O's guy but one way not to beat the box in one is to never try to drive to the basket. Way to much standing around out side the Arc. Also who should be the POY in MAC. Hard to not vote for Mescher.

Another candidate for MAC POY besides Mescher and Ahrens is Nate Bruns. At 6'6'' he is ML's primary ball handler and against Versailles had 18pts., 9 rebounds plus probably 4 or 5 assists.

What did they try to do to counteract the box and one?
