Ohio College Basketball

With OSU's win over Iowa tonight, the state of Ohio could have 3 college teams ranked in the top ten in AP's top 25 next week. Not too bad, for a state that is labeled a football state.

They already do. Xavier, Cincinnati, and Ohio State are all in the top 15.

Gotcha. Looking at the rankings though I think it's more likely Ohio State is sitting at #11. They'll move ahead of Duke, Kansas, and St. Marys, but I don't see anyone else dropping that low.

It will also be interesting seeing how far Nova drops after losing to St. Johns. If they drop low enough we could be seeing Xavier at #2 and Cincinnati at #3. All of this assuming UC takes care of business at SMU, which won't be a cakewalk.

Kansas at #2 and Oklahoma at #4 is a joke.

NCAA in-season look at NCAA Tournament Bracket

South (Atlanta): (1) Virginia, (2) Cincinnati, (3) Michigan St., (4) Tennessee
East (Boston): (1) Villanova, (2) Duke, (3) Texas Tech, (4) Ohio State
Midwest (Omaha): (1) Xavier, (2) Auburn, (3) Clemson, (4) Oklahoma
West (Los Angeles): (1) Purdue, (2) Kansas, (3) North Carolina, (4) Arizona

"The committee considers a balanced bracket to have no more than a five-point separation between the highest and lowest total among the four regions. In this bracket, the West region, with (4) Purdue, (8) Cincinnati, (12) North Carolina and (15) Arizona totaled 39. Boston and Omaha each added up to 33, but Atlanta, with (1) Virginia), (6) Kansas, (11) Michigan St. and (13) Tennessee, only added up to 31. After reviewing options, the committee elected to switch Kansas and Cincinnati, sending the Jayhawks to Los Angeles and the Bearcats to Atlanta. That resulted in the West region totaling 37, while the other three regions equaled 33"

this quote did not age well.

FWIW - SMU is decimated by injuries right now.

Injuries aside, if you told any UC fan they would walk out of Moody with a 25-point win, they would have laughed in your face.

the way UC has been playing, and then adding the injuries to SMU, that win did not surprise me at all.

even healthy, UC beats them by double digits.

Glad I was wrong. Was unaware 44 points were going to be sitting on the bench for SMU.

Got tix to both XU/Nova and UC/WSU this weekend. Hopefully both pull off signature wins.

i have to think the atmosphere at both these games will be that of a "shootout", considering the opponents, ranking, standing in the conference, etc.

what a weekend to be a fan of college hoops in Cinci.

AP POLL:

UC 5
XU 4

Xu got 5 first place votes. first time ever.

once again, not that the rankings matter but it's still cool to see both in the top 5.

AP Top 25 : X no.4, UC no.5 and OSU no.8. Other than North Carolina, doubt if one state has had 3 teams in the top 8 too often. Probably the 1st time for Ohio.

Hopefully XU actually shows up. 1-9 against Nova since joining the Big East, with a lot of those being massive beat downs. It's gotta be in their heads.

I'd give the nod to Xavier at this point.

XU and UC certainly have more offensive threats, but OSU has the best in Bates-Diop, and perhaps the best coach.

I'd give the nod the X as well. Not sure who's better between UC-OSU, but I'll go with UC because bias. UC-OSU is going to be insane next season.

Wasn't OU supposed to be a national title contender by now?

Agreed with WS' assessments. Although Blueitt challenges KBD for best player.

They certainly put the money into the program from what I read.

With clearly inferior talent while he was at Butler. All 3 coaches are very good, so that can be debated. Not sure either Mack or Cronin have the Buckeyes where Holtmann does this year though, if they were in his position.

Cronin is the worst of the 3. His ceiling is much lower than Mack and Holtmann. With that said I'm fairly content with where he's taken the program, firmly in the 2nd tier.
