Same deal.

The 4th is the only major holiday during the summer. There's really no excuse for not giving people the day for traveling and whatnot unless they do something vital.

Pointing out that it's a dumb, sleazy thing to do doesn't make it whining.

I'm not sure how it's dumb or sleazy. Anyway, of course it's whining.

The owner knows not to schedule deliveries for the day. In that scenario, he'd not only be an azshat, he'd be an idiot.

Just the 3rd.

Must be painful to be a robot surrounded by people

Generally, suppliers build relationships with clients and vice versa and will work things out, even ahead of time (I know, shocking), to ensure things go smoothly. If you find it difficult to do that, your company probably sucks.

And in B2C, what's your solution there? Owner should just let someone else fulfill the demand because July 3rd happened to fall on a Mon?

And if the 4th falls on a Thursday, you assume that you would get Friday off too and be paid for it?

The company my daughter works for shuts down from 7/1 through 7/9 all paid and then does it again during Xmas/New years. You guys are just mad you got stuck working the third when most VALUED employees get it off.

Agreed. I honestly didn't know anyone of my friends who was off yesterday and all of my suppliers were open. You basically grill out on the 4th and go to a local fireworks show. Unless your crusaders, then you demand multiple days off.

New holiday. 4th of July eve., unless the 4th is on Thursday then new day will be 5th of July the day after. If the 4th is on Saturday or Sunday then no additional days off.

Sounds really dumb lol.

Deliver on the 2nd. Deliver on the 5th. If your client can't handle a 4 day window, then they're probably a pain in the azs better left for someone else to deal with.

Would you quit a job if they didn't offer a Fourth of July travel day, crusaders?

If you think I'm "complaining" about anything other than dumb business owners you're not paying attention.

Right, you're complaining about employers who don't give this extra day off.

Suppliers or retail, sure. Work 'em. Salaried employees, especially lower ones, make them burn a personal day if they want it off. If you are working for yourself, why fall behind unless you need a break ? You do mostly residential stone work and other masonry stuff, right ?

There are plenty of people that are going to take the day off to make a 4-day w/e out of it, though. Some production situations are going to be less efficient with odd-sized crews. People stuck working when others are off can be a little salty and discontented on a lone day between a weekend and a holiday with a short crew. I can see why some hourly situations would tell everyone to stay away until Wednesday if they aren't behind schedule. I'm surprised you don't know anyone off yesterday.

Construction/Engineering company I work for has over 500 employees over several projects across the U.S. and aside from the few who took vacation days 98% worked. In fact jobsites working 5-8 hour days jumped to ten hours so folks could still get their 40 hours.
