The African Queen 6.5/8 "If there's anything in the world I hate, it's leeches." -.5 for the not gonna happen repairing of the prop and -1 for the bad singing at the end.

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri

7/8

Beautifully acted character study that defies description. This is a great movie not least for its complete disregard of American PC rules and Hollywood conventions.

As an aside I read a couple of reviews about this movie and the ones I read seemed to miss the point. Mildred & Dixon are mirror images of each other. Both can be repellent AND redeemable at the same time.

Wolves at the Door (2016)

Horror/Crime: Hippie killers, pregnant movie star.... sounds familiar well it is another version of "Helter Skelter". This was made more like a horror movie instead of True Crime but repetition and already knowing what would happen was its downfall.... I did like it though.... 4.0/8

PET (Spain-2016)

Horror: A lonely man finds an old crush and decides to force the relationship by imprisoning her.... oh boy, this one takes a spin.... 3.0/8

The Roommates (1973)

Horror: Oh the 70's., gotta love them as well as the movies from that time... it is vacation time for the girls and with murder on the menu it does get a bit dicey. Of course I liked this one.... 5.0/8

Don't Sleep (2017)

Horror: A man starts to have nightmares that he once had as a child following a move with his wife... 4.0/8

The Alamo (1960)

Classic John Wayne Western, pretty long (3hrs/22mins) but I hadn't seen it in a long time and had nothing to do Sunday.
Rated it (6.5/8)

I was told by a friend that when I am in San Antonio, I should see the movie set which was built on a near by ranch, as well as seeing the actual Alamo. He said the movie set gives a more accurate depiction as to what the Alamo was like during the siege, since the actual Alamo is now in the middle of town.

Baby Driver 7.5/8

good action, excellent music and a fun story.

only thing that could have made it better would have been if child molester Spacey wasn't in it.

..found this picture, looks like the Duke's movie set is still around but the Alamo Village is no longer open to the public. It was closed by the owner of the property back in 2010 I think. This site used for the village is over 100 miles away from San Antonio, so if you head down see this, check first to see if it's re-opened.

The Magnificent Seven (2016)- old style cowboy movie about 7 old west gunmen that come together to rescue a small town from a wealthy land baron looking to take the town for its gold. Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt and Ethan Hawke in the cast. Relatively hokey and predictable, but not a bad movie. 5.5/8.

How To Make A Monster (1958)

Godfather II 6/8 Eh, didn't see it as near as good as Godfather. Flat at the end, trying to emulate the end of Godfather. The punch just wasn't there. Deniro's perforance was all that though. Wasn't much Best Picture competition and they really couldn't give it to Polanski so...

Godfather III 5/8 didn't care for Garcia's try too hard. Shire's try too hard. Sofia Coppola's try too hard....

Trailer Park Shark (2017)

SciFi Horror: Soggy Meadows is a trailer park near the river in good ole Louisiana. The folks have a problem as they have no money so they decide to plug into a wind mill for some free electricity by running a power chord under the river. Meanwhile this oil tycoon wants the trailer park gone so he can start drilling and decides to blow a levee flooding the trailer park. What's that? A shark in them waters and it is an electric shark..... what the heck is that. Of course this was bad but every once in awhile I enjoy suffering through these type films.... 1.5/8

Kingsman (2014) - I didn't think I would like it much but was pleasantly surprised. Stylish and fun. I liked the choreography at the end.

I was also surprised by that movie. The second one entertained also.

Oceans 11, 12, 13 7/5.5/5 out of 8. 12 was slow but had some real funny moments and I have to admit, I fell for the joke. They led by the nose and I completely missed it. These were fun, I hope the recent one is also.

Mark Felt 5/8 not the greatest but I guess a true enough revisit of the time and person? Didn't drag. Brought up things I'd forgotten, particularly the timing of Hoover's death. It really wasn't that many years after my first job had me in the area. We'd go to Foggy Bottom/Georgetown to hang out. Pass the Watergate like their were ghosts and intrigue in there.

Imitation Game 7/8 been on a Benedict Cumberwho streak I guess. This is a rewatch, Doctor Strange, I didn't realize he could pull off humor and now Sherlock, S2E1 would be an 8/8 movie in itself.

Samson

2/8

Very bad Bible epic that was playing to an empty theater as lines were around the block to see Black Panther. But I was fulfilling my "Godfather" duties to some nephews and nieces so there is that.

My reco is if you're interested in the story check out the 1949 Cecil B. DeMill epic version that is 100 times better.

The only other thing of interest about this mess of a movie is you will find out what happened to the career of Titanic villain Billy Zane and it ain't pretty.

Cool Hand Luke (1967) - Paul Newman, George Kennedy and a half dozen or so other recognizable actors.

I've seen this movie several times, but evidently never saw the very beginning where Luke (Newman) cuts off the head off of parking meters, earning him two years on a Southern road gang. Unfortunately, Luke never did "get his mind right". 7/8. Oh yeah, Dragline's (Kennedy) Lucille is reason enough to watch this one.

Marshall 5/8 Since I'm talking about it on another thread, thought it worth a review. A nice look into the man. Hardly a puff piece, he comes off an arrogant, almost sociopathic man. Movie had some odd diversions, I suppose meant to give a peak into "black culture," again not overly positive but I didn't see a connection to the main plot. Nice that it wasn't a "how he broke the odds" kind of movie, so cliche. Just an event, not even the most famous event by a long shot, out of a great man's life.

I thought it was fine and, personally, I was perfectly happy watching Gal Gadot in her WW costume, although, I would enjoy seeing her without it.

Action in the North Atlantic

1943 War movie about the merchant marines being attacked by German U-Boats and then learning how to fight back. This movies stars Humphrey Bogart, Raymond Massey, Alan Hale, etc. Pretty good story line & fair amount of action. 6/8
