IB is right, at least here.

There is NO WAY I'd play ball in the same streets today that I played as a kid. Not safe. Lowe economic urban fact. Bounces would be better, given the bricks are now paved but when people get angry for the noise now....

Easy to count the ball fields that no longer exist, that were there for us. Harder to count the ball fields that do exist. Sure there are open fields, if you but cones in the open ground hog holes and can get them mowed. There's not even a corner sports store to get equipment. Even the closest Box store is in the burbs.

Baseball IS moving out of the consciousness of this urban center, held up predominantly by Hispanics moving in but with no where near the resources we had. Seems to be doing fine in outer rim and burbs.

This is a good idea. Maybe expand playoffs a bit and have the World Series end mid-October. I'd start playoff games much earlier so kids can watch ... probably 6 or 6:30.

Don't give a crap about the NBA or NFL.
