Vegas blows out the Avalanche 7-0 and are now 8-1-0. Wowzers

Can't believe phoenix hasn't fired their coach yet. I actually thought they'd be pretty good this year

The talking heads on HNIC were talking about the Coyotes' owner possibly having to sell a share of the team because it is losing so much money. How long can Bettman keep this charade going?

With Vegas around, it seems unlikely they'll break that "rivalry" up without a fight. I think the NHL would rather keep Phoenix for TV negotiation than move it somewhere smaller that will actually have fans.

If Vegas is going to have a rivalry with anybody it'll be with the Kings and to a lesser extent the Ducks. No one gives a damn about the Coyotes. Get a damn arena built in Seattle and move them there already, because that rivalry would kick azz.

Yeah, Seattle is probably the only market they'd consider moving the Coyotes, but Seattle seems like it's more interested in getting the Sonics back than gaining an NHL team.

Seems like things are going pretty badly in Carolina as well. Time to move them to Quebec City.

Knights finally lose and their goalie also got hurt. Now on to their fifth goalie of the year. Yikes

Bettman and the Flames are also trying to dick over Calgary for a new arena so that will be interesting. Their owner is life the 6th richest Canadian but he just CANNOT find the money to build a new arena himself. So the Calgary mayor basically told him to F off. Kudos to him

Yeah, the city apparently turned down a plan that would involve a new arena and football stadium in a different part of town in favor of a plan that only includes a new arena that would be located in the current arena's parking lot. Not sure what to make of that.

There are also rumblings of the Islanders falling apart. Their arena is crap and it doesn't seem like Tavares wants to stay there. Would suck if they moved, but I could see it happening.

Has Cleveland ever shown any interest in a NHL team? Seems like a natural to me. They are the only large cold weather city without a team aren't they?

Pens drop another one. 4-2 to the Canucks. They've give up 5 goals to Boeser in their two games. The kid is good but come on.

Bringing this back to the GB

General thoughts a little more than half way through the season:
Vegas is by far the surprise of the NHL this year
Tampa Bay is the best team by far (when healthy)
CBJ has regressed and forgotten how to score goals
Edmonton is a huge disappointment
Pittsburgh is coming on at the right time
Arizona is lucky to still have a franchise
Washington is still a really good regular season team

Eastern Conference playoff predictions:
Tampa Bay vs Philly
Washington vs CBJ
Boston vs Toronto
Pittsburgh vs NYR

Western Conference playoff predictions:
Nashville vs Minnesota
Vegas vs Chicago
Calgary vs San Jose
Winnipeg vs St Louis

Stanley Cup Final:
Tampa Bay vs Minnesota

The Pens have some energy now but they need a couple pieces to make a run, IMO. Or if Kris Letang pulls his head out of his azs, just one more piece.

Seriously.

Although Carolina 'Cane's performance (and attendance) have been down, the team has a lot of young talent. With the recent change in majority ownership comes the question of moving the team. As the team's lease is through 2025 (I believe) I don't look for that to happen any time soon (I hope). The Triangle area of Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill is a pretty fast growing area and as the team improves (I hope) I expect attendance to do the same!

Pens are playing good hockey at the moment. They're 10-3 since the beginning of January and look like they're going to pick up a big win over the Caps tonight leading 7-4.

Go Hurricanes. I've been to a couple of games of theirs now and I feel like I have a team to follow, finally.

4 points out of first. Every team in Pens division is over .500.

And of course they came out in their next game looking terrible. Sullivan's obsession with mixing up lines is such a pain in the azs sometimes.

Pens add Brassard in 3 team trade with Ottawa and Vegas. Gave up Ian Cole and a lot of picks but they needed a 3C badly. Dumping Ryan Reaves is a win as well.

Vegas will somehow retain 40% of Brassard's $5m/year for the next season and a half. Jim Rutherford has become a genius.

To Ottawa: Ian Cole (D - PIT), Filip Gustavsson (G - PIT), 2018 1st (PIT), and 2019 3rd (PIT)

To Pens: Derick Brassard (C - OTT) at 60% of $10m/2 years via Vegas, Tobias Lindberg (F - OTT), Vincent Dunn (F - OTT), and 2018 3rd (OTT)

To Vegas: Ryan Reaves (D - PIT), 40% of Brassard's contract, and 2018 3rd (VAN via PIT)

Safe to say the Pens are all-in as Crosby and Malkin hit their early 30s.

My worry now is the defense. Cole was one of their top 2 Dmen, IMO (Letang hasn't been very good and Schultz has been hurt). Now they're left with Letang, Maatta, Schultz, Oleksiak, Hunwick, and Rhuwedel. I have to think there's another trade brewing. That group is just not going to cut it in the playoffs.

I agree they will try to add another defender. I don't know the particulars but gave up 6 goals this evening. That ain't good.
