kudos to all of these kids who continue to strap 'em up and toil and sweat to get better and challenge themselves. And to the coaches who guide them.

May all of these streaks end this year.

Godspeed gents.

Quick question, Finneytown starts their season with 2 games against schools from KY and then 1 against a Ohio club team before their league schedule starts.

If they were to win one of those first 3 games, would the end of their losing streak "officially" be recognized?

Minerva dropped a 42-13 decision to United Local last night to move their losing streak to 31. Two tough ones coming up with Sandy Valley and Indian Valley next

Gentlemen,

If the category is consecutive losses then Youngstown North at 64 is incorrect. North had two ties in that 64-game winless streak. They lost 20 straight, had a tie, lost 25 straight, another tie, lost 17 and then finally won a game in week one of the 1965 season. A subtle difference perhaps but North did not lose 64 consecutive games.

I talked to OHSAA about this several years ago and at one time on their website they changed the category to consecutive winless games but it seems they changed it back. To my knowledge the state record for consecutive losses is Richmond Hts. at 55.

Akron North and Rayland both fell again to put the states longest current losing streak at 36. Minerva also lost and now has dropped 34 in a row! Hopefully all of these can end soon...

West M

Zanesville West Muskingum will not win this year. Maybe not next year. But they will win some games in a couple years. Some players coming and an easier schedule.

I remember when Bedford Chanel had a 47-game losing streak. The skid stretched from early in the 1989 season to late in 1993, if I recall correctly. I worked for a weekly that covered the Firebirds, so I had to come up with a fresh way of looking at each week's loss, and try to make it seem not so bad, because we were writing about local kids. This wasn't an easy assignment, obviously. Chanel played Lake Catholic, which was winning state championships at the time. It was like feeding Christians to the lions.

What I remember is that Garfield Heights was the last school Chanel beat before the streak started. And it was Garfield that the Firebirds beat to end the streak. That was 1993 and eight years later, Chanel won the D5 state championship. It broke my heart when the school closed.

FYI, I keep lists of winning streaks (longer than the current season), regular-season winning streaks, and losing streaks here.
