So back to the game....looks like Alter will be loaded and the ELKS will be in transition. Coach Ullery will have his team ready to play. I think the community is excited. I think the Alter vs. Fairmont game will provide more information as to how good the Knights will be as the Firebirds are no longer a pushover.

Two great programs, two football mad communities and a game that many have been waiting for for quite a while. Should be lots of fun for all involved. The kind of game people like me would attend, who would skip the team they follow if itís going to be a snoozer. I love games like this. Very reminiscent of my Big Red restarting a rivalry with Massillon.
maybe Big Red - SCC is next

I don't know if any of the others played in college. There goes the argument that Alter draws more players than, say, Centerville, who want to be recruited to play in college.
Updated it for you from what I could find in an Alter booklet.

I agree. Week 1 - Alter vs. Fairmont and Elks vs. Fairfield will tell us a lot.

Agree. Elks will be heavy underdogs to a very talented Indians team. They have a TE going to Michigan, a super star junior rb with multiple D1 offers, a D1 center, and a 6’6 D2 qb. They also have a few nice D1 defensive players. Since the game is home, I think the Indians are a 2 td favorite.

Also think Fairmont is a 7-10 point favorite over the knights.

I like your optimism but Fairmont is no favorite over Alter LOL.

I hate to comment on Fairmont-Alter in a Centerville-Alter thread but I can't figure out why people on here are saying Fairmont returns everyone? By my count they return 4 starters on offense - QB, RB, WR & OL. On defense they return 5 - DL, 2LB, 2DB.

So they return 40% of their starters & I believe their kicker. Just wanted to clear that up, maybe the DDN preview article skewed the perception.

Back to the thread topic, I am certain the Elks will be much better than people anticipate. Alter is absolutely loaded with college commits which will even the playing field, this will be a heck of a game between 2 of the areas best programs. Hope to be there!

I knew about the TE, RB, and QB which will put the Elks defense to a big test. Who is the Center and defensive players you mentioned?

QB Bazelak (Missouri), RB Bivens (multiple offers, but probably out for season), and LB Meyer (D1 FCS offers). I am not aware of any other D1/D2 college prospects. I think the Elks only have LB Wynn (Akron), WR Burnette (Xenia transfer - heard D2 offers), and QB Harrison (Louisville offer if he plays).

^ so two, one more than I was aware of. So "loaded" seems a wee overstated.

I could see 5-6 of their defensive players also playing on Saturdays, not sure of exact offers - DT Clayton, Meyer & Baxter LB's Harshbarger, O'Connell & Helm. Martin wherever he plays this year, maybe offense.

Obviously the biggest question remains, the status of RB Bivens. Safe to assume this will be more of a wide open offense compared to years past, something the Elks see a lot of.

Centerville won in 2010 due to a dominating line. That is all it comes down to. I would say that the skill players were a pretty even match on both sides, maybe giving an edge to the WR's for Centerville. Their three-man defensive front were all D1 college athletes:

Michael Bennett: DL Ohio State/Jacksonville Jaguars
Kyle Rose: DL West Virginia/formerly Cleveland Browns
Ifeadi Odenigbo: DE Northwestern/ Minnesota Vikings

Not to mention some serious size on the offensive line. Bennett played noseguard most of the game with Rose and Odenigbo on the ends. Alter had a decent, even above-average offensive line, but with most of them going both ways they slowed down in the second and third quarters and the D1 athletes were able to control the line.

That being said, what are the lines like this year for Alter and Centerville? Any D1 athletes on either side?

Any updates from you on Fairmont this year? I suspect, Coach Miller, will have everyone buying into his philosophy by the 3rd year now.

They look pretty solid. They didn't show much against Loveland and didn't run Deglow as much.

They lost some but have moved a lot of guys around. They have a solid core back at QB1 RB1 WR1. They also have 3 OL back. Defense lost a few guys mostly on the back end.
