Heard Centerville will either take the bye or play Alter. Couldn't find any other teams to play. I know Alter is willing to play this game. Unless you're DI bound, your kid won't have the opportunity to play in front of over 11,000 people.

If the Elks can't find any other teams, then they will play Alter. Even if Alter is favored, it is a winnable game for Centerville especially without Bivens. A bye week for the Elks would hurt any chance of making the playoffs and a win could put them in. Last time they played, it was a great environment.

I thought it was funny to see the Domsitz article in the paper. He’s not willing to play 2 columbus teams year in and year out to replace the 2 Cincy teams?????? And it’s 2 Cincy teams that have not given him, his players, or the “FANS” a close contest in 20 years?

Yet, all you Alter homers...how dare Centerville doesn’t care about the “fans”!!!!!! It’s hilarious, if it’s about the fans, Domsitz would not schedule the 2 non-conference games he does every year and then beat the dog shi* out of the undermanned teams in that lousy conference for the last 10 years. They have had more players on their team than any other gclc team for the last 15 years=big fish in a very small pond.

But, he is willing to play Centerville in a 1 year deal, with the Elks returning 2 O-lineman and not 1 skill guy. And will not sign a multi year deal? Yep, seems really bad for Centerville to look at other options.

I think you keep missing the point that neither team had plans to play each other this year. Due to circumstances outside their control, they both now have an open week at the same time. The game has the ability to benifit Centerville way more than it does Alter. Without something major happening, Alter's making the playoffs and probably a deep run. This happens even if they lose to the Elks. Unfortunately, the Elks have no options. And neither do Alter. It's either sit at home and watch everyone else play that weekend or play each other. If you don't think they should play Alter based on there not being a long term agreement that's fine but you're costing young guys quality game reps. You're losing a chance for guys to play in a big game atmosphere with college coaches in attendance. A win would also be key to making the playoffs. But take your ball and just go home if you want...

I find it funny when coaches give candid answers and those words are then turned against them. Does Alter have the skill to play with Centerville? Yes...Do they have the depth to beat them with a few injuries? Probably not. I'm not sure any team would really want to play against playoff caliber teams the first five weeks of the season if given the choice. If you start off bad then you never really give kids a chance to gain confidence.

Let's see. Open with Fairmont, then play Centerville. Then DeSales. All of those teams are challenges, but mostly the numbers work against being able to keep a DIV sized team healthy throughout the whole season. DeSales will be a great challenge, with 150% of Alter's enrollment. But Fairmont and Centerville are many multiples the size of Alter.

Coach D is right. Alter is, size-wise, a DIV team, playing in DIII. The whole reason for divisions is because the smaller the team, the fewer the big, fast, great players on the line. Alter has done well in its division, even bumped up by CB, because of great coaching and discipline, and outstanding off-season work. Last year we saw a huge size advantage for Fairmont, and when we last played Centerville the line size, strength and speed was the difference in the game.

Injuries are part of the game, and Alter doesn't have over 1,000 boys to choose from. The first team gets a lot done, but we're not 3 and 4 deep, like the better DI teams.

Alter has never cut anyone from its football team. Everybody who shows up and stays is on the team. The Knights can compete with anyone for one game, but not waves of bigger linemen every week, because of injuries. When we played St. X, Moeller and Elder, we could hang in the first half, and second half the clean unis showed up. Our tongues were hanging out. Still, we were able once to beat Elder in the Pit.

Now that Fairmont has its act together, with its 1300 boys to Alter's 300, it's hard to see how Alter's line doesn't get banged up to start every season. Fairmont and Centerville have more boys in each class than Alter has in all four grades combined.

Planning to play 15 games, you have to play someone your own size most weeks. Centerville and Fairmont fans can mock Alter's schedule because there isn't anybody bigger than those schools, and they have all the big guys they need. It's like Sugar Ray or Marvelous Marvin fighting Sonny Liston every week. Those numbers don't compute.

Great coaching and discipline has nothing to do with Alter being bumped up. They got bumped up because of the number of football players that are outside of Alter's assigned district that are on the team.

Alter in my opinion is a D2 equivalent year in and out.

Scheduling like that is what makes traditional decent teams like a Mooney fail to make it into the playoffs because they play a brutal schedule all back to back to back. Also, people forget teams have to agree to play Alter. They can't get a CHL/SWBL/MAC/ECC team to play them. They all say no. It's easier for Badin or Carroll or Fenwick to get those teams to play them. If Alter wants to make the playoffs, stay healthy, and compete, it's difficult to line up against a DI good Fairmont team (now), find a week 3 opponent willing to play that's probably going to be a D1-D2 football team, then go DeSales and Hartley back to back after that isn't smart.

Not sure if any of the above discussion is real, but I have had it as a double header with a pair of Canadian schools from London, Ontario...Alter playing at 5:45PM and Centerville at 8PM.

Guess you'll be happy to learn that Domsitz earned the right to make his own schedule years ago. The boosters will be there in record numbers when the teams play.

Here’s the conversation:

Elks-were good to play the game this year, we have 4 returning starters and tough schedule already, but to do so we would like at least 1 return game in the next couple of years?

Domsitz-were good to play also this year, we have 17 starters back and an SEC qb! No way, we will only have 4 starters back next year and we can’t afford an early season loss.

That’s why I don’t understand the negative feedback from anyone? It is a great game for the community and kids, but it needs to be good for both programs.

With Alter losing to Fairmont in week 1 they would have had to win this game to stay in playoff contention.

To my recollection they were only #3 or 2 in the region with only one loss. I think they will be OK with two. They still may even host a game.

Like the Fire in the Firebirds. I think game one is going to be a dandy. Fairmont is going to be very good this year. Alter will have their hands full. Now with Centerville on the schedule will have 2 games that I will need to get there very early for a seat.

I think Alter exacts revenge for last year's Fairmont game, but not by much.

Just imagine....Alter beats BOTH the Firebirds and the Elks? Well, it's just a dream. But what if some twist of fate happens?

Nah, couldn't be.

But what if?

Firebirds are probably 3 pt favorites

Elks are laying 14 to the knights this year.
