St. Ignatius Football 2018

Per Eddie Dwyer, the Wildcats 2018 schedule is as follows:

Aug 25. Akron Hoban @ Byers (7:00 pm)
Sept 1 Mentor @ Byers (7:00pm)
Sept 7 Euclid @ Euclid (7:00 pm)
Sept 14 COF Academy @ TBA - Columbus area (7:00 pm)
Sept 22 Cincinnati Elder @ Byers (2:00 pm)
Sept 29 Canada Football North @ Byers (7:00 pm)
Oct 6 West Toronto (ON) Prep @ TBA
Oct 13 Cincinnati Moeller @ Byers (3:00 pm)
Oct 20 Cincinnati St Xavier @ Cincinnati St X (2:00 pm)
Oct 26 St Edward @ Byers or TBA? (7:00 pm)

West Toronto Prep is a D3 equivalent

COF Academy, based in the Columbus area, is somewhat a mystery. According to Eddie Dwyer, the 2018-2019 school year is its inaugural year. Is this an IMG Academy type organization?

Trying to figure that one out as well.

COF Academy is playing Clarkson on August 17th and at Lima Senior on September 7th.

I like that the Elder game is at 2. I can be back home by 10.

Who will be the starting QB for St Ignatius this year? How deep are they at the position?

Won't know until August when the competition sorts itself out.
Based on the the playoff roster, returning are:

Patrick Delahunty - senior. (I believe he started on the JV squad 2 seasons ago)
Mike Sarko - senior
Griffin Hanna - junior (started on the JV squad this past season)

5 tough games, 2 games where the Cats are 2 td favorites and 3 cupcakes. Never thought I'd see Iggy play 1 let alone 2 Canadian schools. I guess they traded out Parma schools for Canadians.

Can anyone picture a scenario where OHSAA allows St. Edward and St. Ignatius to play twice a year while making this an option for all schools that are classified as Independents?

One can only dream. These Canadian schools do nothing for the programs other than getting backups playing time, while never throwing the football.

Considering the playoffs, there would be a good possibility of three meetings. Could the Eagles and their fans be able to stand losing three times to the cats in one season?

Don't know about now, but Massillon has played McKinley twice in one season. That was in the early 60's.

I'd hate to see the regular season game watered down by playing it twice. Besides, the post-season match-up has become more frequent as of late.

No rules against it. They could play all 10 games vs each other. Points work the same.

Former Ignatius QB great to head XFL:

While not mentioned in article, Oliver believes that anything short of 15-0 for the Golden Tornado would be a bitter disappointment

Looking forward to seeing the Hoban-IGGY matchup at Byers. Hoban replacing some key players on both sides of the ball. Edge to IGGY.

As of right now, I'd give a rather significant edge to Iggy. They'll always have a huge depth advantage over a school like Hoban, and while the Knights bring back some excellent players in spots, they'll also be relying on a lot of young guys getting their first varsity action. They're also already dealing with key injuries on both lines that will carry into week 1, so they'll be up against it. My opinion could always change a bit depending on what camp looks like, but Hoban will be much better week 10 than they will be week 1.

Congrats to the St. Ignatius rugby A-side, which featured several Wildcat football players, on their 15-3 State Championship win over the St. Edward Eagles this past Saturday. Ignatius B-side also beat St. Edward 19-15 earlier in the day.

Congrats on Iggy winning their Rugby "State Championship" in a division that has 4 teams.

Then get on your alma mater to field a team instead of b*tching about the lack of teams. Same thing used to be said about the hockey championship.

?? They are one of the 4; would have made the same statement if they had won. I am laughing at a "State Championship" when there are only 4 teams.

OHSAA doesn't sanction rugby, so there really is no state championship, just a tournament winner.

Rugby Ohio runs high school (and club) rugby in Ohio. They choose to call it a "State Championship."

For a look at what the Rugby Cats accomplished this year, check out:

Ed's and Ignatius are really in a class of their own at this point when it comes to rugby in the State of Ohio. I believe they've played each other in the last 6 or so State Championship games. Moeller has fielded some pretty solid teams and won back in 2010. Westerville's club team used to be the cream of the crop, but has faded (or disbanded perhaps).

Aside from each other, the Eagles and Wildcats see most of their stiff competition in national tournaments. Ignatius even went to South Africa this year where rugby is king. A humbling experience that prepared them well for stateside competition. Ed's had some very good early success this year out on the west coast and in wining the Midwest Championships, but seems to have digressed after that with a disappointing showing at Nationals and dropping the State Championship to Ignatius.

Can't believe that more schools aren't on top of Eichenberg - he was the best player I saw in the state last year. That being said, the Ohio pipeline to BC has been pretty remarkable, and (gasp!) I thought the same of Kuechly 10 years ago.

As a BC grad I can tell you that the BC recruiting pitch is based not on the number of bowl appearances it has, but rather on the fact that it yearly ranks in the top 5 in the number of scholarship players receiving degrees. Plus if you are red-shirted, you will likely graduate with a MBA in addition to your undergraduate degree. The fact that BC is the only Jesuit school playing Big 5 football may also play a role in Eichenberg's and Kuechly's decisions.

I can tell you first hand that BC being a Jesuit school had nothing to do with Kuechly’s decision.
I can tell you that because the offer he really wanted was Notre Dame. He preferred Stanford to BC but logistically Boston was a better fit.

That being said anyone who questions the value of a full ride to BC for athletics or anything else is a fool.

Tommy still has time to upgrade (football, not academics) if he comes out and dominates this season. There is no way Urban and co. will not be paying attention to him this fall.

The lack of an OSU offer for Tommy probably has more to do with the Buckeye depth chart than his talent. Lot of young, talented guys on the roster that have come in the past few years. They really don't have a true LB committed in the '19 class yet. Ohioan Cade Stover is likely to fill out into a DE, and Steele Chambers could be a RB, S, or LB depending on where his body takes him.

I expect Tommy to be pretty dominant this year, and he may force someone's hand whether that be OSU or another marquee program.
