Harrison, Turpin and Oak Hills tri scrimmage

Take:

Oak Hills: looked bad at times. QB is good but doesn't have anytime to throw. One very good receiver. Defense was decent, had two picks but allowed yards. O-line needs a lot of work. Going to be tough year in GMC.

Turpin; had good numbers, decent size, could move the ball, defense was above average, had one pick. Should have a decent season.

Harrison: Defense looked solid and only allowed one score all night, offense looked great at times, QB threw a couple picks and over threw a few wide open receivers, receivers had a few drops but receivers were big and/or fast. team as a whole had a lot of penalties.

Overall Harrison looked like a more complete team followed closely by Turpin. Oak Hills was by far the team that needs the most work.

Took this one in myself. If you are an oak harbor fan you had to be impressed by the defense. They looked fast with good size. Bellevue is just scratching the surface though.

Clearview 0 Sandusky 0 . Both playoff teams last year. First teams went about an hour. Clearview matched up athletically vs Sandusky, which wasn’t the case the previous scrimmages against them. Both offenses were without their best RB’s ( Stewart Sandusky, Engle Clearview) for the scrimmage but were able to move the ball at times and both defenses made some plays. Most impressive drive was by Clearview who moved it down to the 5 on their first drive but ran out of plays (10 play sequence).

Dalton 2-1 over Malvern with the first units. Malvern scored 2 more times and Dalton one more time with the backups. The Hornets look improved over last year. Dalton has some things up front to work on on offense.

Dayton-CJ hosted Dayton Dunbar, Tipp City Tippecanoe, and Mount Orab Western Brown. CJ beat a very aggressive Dunbar Team 3-1; CJ QB made accurate throws to receivers to move the ball down the field. CJ running was decent 4-5 yds a carry. Dunbar defensively will come up and lay that wood on the ball carrier. Offensively, Dunbar QB will need time to throw the ball. Not too much of a running game outside of the QB. CJ defensively looked like bend but don't break in the 3-5-3. Numbers are real down for Dunbar.

Tipp handle Western Brown by pounding the ball on sweeps and counters. Tipp passing game is marginal but effective. Western Brown moves well to the ball defensively. Offensively, WB spreads their opponent out with timely passes and can go up top if need be.

CJ and Tipp went back and forth... CJ score on big runs and short passes. Tipp went with their bread and butter plays to score; broke even 2-2. WB took the edge on Dunbar 2-1; Big pass plays by WB on broken coverage. WB has a big back for short yardage than has good feet. Dunbar QB showed off his arm on a bomb where the receiver got behind the DB in coverage.

Did not stay for the last session; CJ vs. WB and Tipp vs. Dunbar.

Lake defense looked much better than this time last year 2 picks a fumble recover and got to the qb a couple times, made some mistakes got beat on a deep pass for a td, couple penalties but overall not bad for a first time out. Offense line had good protection running game able to move the ball had a few good passes but also some over thrown time will tell over the next few weeks of preseason if we can work out the kinks. N ridgeville has decent passing game except when under pressure. defense had good coverage and some speed at the corners but unable to pressure the qb with any consistency Lake qb able to rush for some yardage. Overall what you might expect on an early scrimmage. good to get up in the stands visit with friends.

Central looked good against Hillsdale. A couple of dropped TD passes but they played physical and controlled the line of scrimmage. It was good to see them have success running the ball as they struggled last year. They look much faster this year and opened holes.

With one of the best field goal kickers in the US, LS decided to go for 3 fourth down situations w/o using him Score would have been different if they had.

Marlington and New Philadelphia played pretty much even..I’d say either 2-1 Marlington or a 2-2 tie with 1s and 2s on the field

Sandusky St Mary’s look big and physical against Cardinal Stritch. Stritch looked athletic, but overmatched on the lines. SBC River Division could be a dog fight this year.

Youngstown Valley Christian had 2 TDs on Warren JFK. (1 pass and 1 pick 6). JFK had good runs up the middle but didn't score

Back ups. 2TDs - none in favor of Valley

4 Teams at Franklin

Franklin,Northmont,New Richmond and Minster today at Franklin. Minster was the most impressive considering the size difference. The held their own against all 3 teams. None of the 4 did much scoring at all. I don't think anyone scored more than 1 td in a set of 10 plays until they played the back-ups. Minster will be hard to handle this season.Franklin strong on defense,Northmont has good size all over the field and New Richmond has an excellent QB.....Franklin home This Friday against Fenwick in the preview game.

Uh, what does "considering the size mean?"

This is true. Oak Harbor' defense looks tough. Offense will be just fine and will rely on big plays when needed as long as the O-line stays healthy.

I'd say 7-3 or 8-2 isn't a far fetched prediction for the Rockets.

Hilliard Bradley beat Marysville 5-0 on Saturday. Passing game for Bradley looked strong as all 5 scores came through the air. Front 7 on defense also looked very good as Marysville had a difficult time moving the ball.
