Best Song: Layla [86.0]

Blues Rock

I like Clampton but not really a big fan. I liked all of the songs on this one but other than the hits nothing else really stuck out.
Interesting, I have this as a top 20 all time album. Probably the best dual lead guitar album with Clapton & Duane Allman trading licks on some of classic rocks best tunes. Best Song to me is Keep on Growing, great guitar interplay between a couple top 10 level guitarists, this could not stink.

Best Song: Zombie Forces [78.0]

Thrash/Death Metal

German band. This one started out strong with thrash metal songs but then turned into death metal and ended with a black metal track. The thrash songs sounded better in my opinion.... liked all the tracks.. sounded old school.

A Perfect Circle - Eat The Elephant (2018)

My Ratings: 74.053
Rank: 537 (out of 1147)

Best Song: Hourglass [83.0]

Atmospheric Rock

After 14 years the new APC album came out today. Keenan and Howerdel disagreed about the direction of the band which was the reason it took so long to come out. I will assume that Keenan won as this album sounds mostly like Puscifer. This was a very mellow album with only 2 great tracks on it.... "Hourglass" and ""By and Down the River". Maybe with multiple listens this new sound may penetrate and I'll like it better but at this time it is the worse of the APC discography.

How did I miss this one when I was doing the year 1970. This has my all time favorite Guess Who track on it in "No Time". Great album which also includes "No Sugar Tonight" ....

Great album by the Doobie Brothers. I don't understand, nobody in the band has the last name of Doobie? This album includes the radio hits of "Listen to the Music", "Rockin Down The Highway", and "Jesus is Just Alright".

just a reminder of my rating system. Each song is ranked from a 40 to 100 scale and then averaged. There is additional fraction of points per # of tracks and age of album, this is mainly to break the numerous ties....

Anything over a 70 is an song/album I like, 80 and over is great, 90 and over is excellent. Typically I will not have any ratings below 60 as I will not bother to listen to something I cannot stand....

At least 5 bands with this name so this is the guys from KC. 6 of the 7 are great tracks and what differentiates Merin [KC] from other Doom Metal bands is they have a sax player.... this one is a concept album.

I've done 3 YES albums to date... YES is actually heading to the ROSE in Huber Heights this year and was thinking about checking them out. I typically like YES but not sure what happened on the "Close to the Edge" album.... I have not done an America album yet but I definitely need to do one......

Thanks Zezzo for the request. I had actually forgotten about this band. I do own a live album by them but this is my first stab at their studio stuff. This one has what is likely my 3rd favorite song by this band on it in "Tin Man". I will definitely be listening to more of their early albums....

Looks like you knocked out a few trios, who do you have as your top one? Cream? Jimi Hendrix Experience? A '90s band like Nirvana?

By the way, I think the pre-MTV ZZ Top was a great bar band and a fun show in a large theater. The person that told these guys to add synths to their sound though should be castrated.

My Ratings: 73.090
Rank: 630 (out of 1162)

Best Song: With a Minute to Go [78.0]

Hard Rock

This is the only album these guys did, at least in this time period. It got off to a pretty good start with "Freelance Fiend" but then I really didn't care for the next few tracks but the back half of the album was solid.

===============================================

I'm going to continue to bounce around the 60's and early 70's and still focus on 2018 but I will also be starting the year 2009..... feel free to request an album for 2009 if you believe it is up my alley.....

According to the experts this one was the top ranked Melodic Death Metal album of 2009. Most of the tracks are over 8 minutes and with this genre for me are too long. Anyhow, solid album.

My Ratings: 72.010
Rank: 740 (out of 1164)

Best Song: Awkward Decision [78.6]

Progressive Death Metal

This album was tiring, I had to turn it off at the halfway point and then finish it later. There is just one track that lasts 71 minutes. The song has 4 parts with each part with 5 sections but it is continuous without breaks. I liked the first 3 parts but did not like the 4th.... this is the bands only album. Musically, they are very talented...

Naxatras - III (2018)

My Ratings: 71.956
Rank: 744 (out of 1165)

Best Song: On the Silver Line [77.6]

Psychedelic/Acid Rock

A very trippy band in which one needs to be in another "state of mind" to get the full enhancement of the trip. Unfortunately I could not reach that state but still enjoyed most of it. Most of the tracks are over 10 minutes long and one track I just did not like at all. Only half the tracks have vocals....

Transition album for the Dead, you still get some experimental psychedelic related music including the terrible "Whats Become of the Baby" but you also start to hear tinges of the Americana feel that will dominate their sound and words in the next few albums. A notable on this album, it was one of the first rock albums to be recorded using 16-track technology. Also it has been cited as one of the best album art packages in rock, this also includes the iconic hippy family photo on the back cover that Courtney Love claims to be a part of yet that has been proven false, (It does include Vince Gualardi though).

And as called out earlier if you are really wanting to delve into the Dead catalog you need to listen to Live Dead next. It really puts the finishing touches on their psychedelic ballroom era and includes some key GD penned tunes that do not appear on a studio album, notably their primary improv vehicle Dark Star.

I knew something was going on when there is a large picture of a frog on a Toad album. First 3 songs were pretty good but then it went down hill from there... overall, did not care for them but this is the only album with this lead singer so may check out another one in the future...
