Why Ohio State’s football schedule won’t include Alabama anytime soon

Quote:
Jarmond explained that the Buckeyes typically take a two-pronged approach when it comes to scheduling premier games.

1. Does Ohio State possess a strong fan presence or alumni base in the prospective opponent’s region?

2. Is the Buckeyes coaching staff actively recruiting the area?

In the case of the Crimson Tide, neither factor applies.

Yes, but he also pretty much dismissed going into SEC country, in general. OSU recruits Georgia and Florida hard and there are a lot of OSU alums in the Atlanta area and all over Florida. A home and home with Georgia...which was once scheduled and then cancelled, or with Florida State (not SEC, but still in the Sunshine State) would make sense. The Gators are out of the question until Urban is done at OSU, I'm sure.

An OSU-UGA game would be awesome. I wish they kept that

Would love to see Ohio State-Georgia or Ohio State-Florida State.

I say save Bama for the playoffs

Scheduling is an art form and certain schools like 'Bama and tOSU are at a Picasso level.

I think the NCAA needs to step in and dictate a schedule policy for all schools that want to participate in the playoffs. Some musts in my book:

1) No FBS schools on the schedule! If a school needs these for revenue or the FBS schools complain about lost $s pull a NFL and have a "pre-season" game where they charge fans full price but it doesn't count for playoff purposes.

2) Cap the home game schedule at 7 games. Additionally a "neutral" site game within 100 miles of the campus would be considered a home game.

3) Only Conference games in the month of November.

4) At least 1 OOC Power 5 game and that must be a home/home deal.

No one in the country doesn't know why OSU won't schedule Alabama, but would schedule Wyoming in a second.

Really this. There's what, a 1 out of 3 or 4 chance OSU makes play-offs? Same or more Alabama? I wouldn't schedule anyteam I might meet in play-offs, simply from fan POV. There are plenty of marque teams that could be scheduled for fans to see, that are less likely to make play-offs. Make those games happen. OSU-Georgia would certainly be one of them. There's a few teams in the PAC 12 be interesting to see.

This came up during the Tressel tenure. He attempted scheduling home & home series with Florida and a few other SEC schools. They turned it down. The SEC doesn't like to travel out of state unless it is a conference game.

We're talking about the same OSU that had no problem scheduling USC and Texas at their peak right?

Isn't Georgia playing at ND and Texas A&M playing at UCLA this year ?

I don't know. I haven't really looked at any schedules. I just know what happened in the past.

The SEC stance was 'we are the toughest conference so we don't need to play tough nonconference'.

They are no longer the toughest conference, outside of Bama, so it would make sense they are opening it up then.

There are plenty of SEC teams who schedule tough non-conference games. Ohio State has consistently shown it is willing to play a premier opponent out of conference every year as well, so I'm not sure what the debate is here.

Folks forget that a couple big rivalry games for SEC teams are OOC. South Carolina plays Clemson and Florida plays Florida State at the end of the year. Georgia vs Georgia Tech could also be consider in the same boat most years. Texas A&M should be doing the same thing w/ Texas but there are internal politics preventing that game. As called out above 'Bama has really figured out a way to get the most leverage from their OOC schedule. It is always a neutral location in the south and against a big name that is not expected to do much that season. The past 5 years have seen them play in Dallas and Atlanta where as LSU had to play Wiscy in Green Bay. How about 'Bama playing in NYC against Penn State or USC in the Rose Bowl? They have not played a Power 5 team outside of the SEC at their place since a heavily sanctioned Penn State at State College in '11.

Not to mention the Miami games which were set up following the NC game in 2002, Oklahoma, home/home with Oregon, ND, TCU, Texas, Washington, plus two series that were cancelled, one with Georgia and one with Tennessee due to mutual scheduling issues.

Can't seem to remember the score of the OSU-Bama game when they played last. Could you remind me?

Nope. Couldn't careless anyway. But cute deflection!

By the way, since it seems you don't remember the score of the game the last time Ohio State played Bama either, I looked it up. Turns out OSU won 42-35. Who knew!

Nope. Couldn't careless anyway. But cute deflection! , the topic was concerning the regular season. A blind man on a fast horse see why you didnt want to discuss that

oh okay. Clearly that holds more water than the college football playoff. Probably because Bama players were worried about the draft, right?

But you hang your hat on things that happened 20+ years ago like it has any bearing on today.

did you actually read the title of this thread? " Why Ohio State’s football schedule won’t include Alabama anytime soon" does it say anything about playoffs? Give this a try http://www.englishmaven.org/Pages/Re...prehension.htm

it shows a track record when a sec school hasnt appeared on OSU schedule in 30 years it shows the obvious. OSU doesnt want to play them during the season. but that is understandable, osu doesnt want to get exposed during the season.

Is your mental capacity so small you can't put two different thoughts into one post? OSU beat the last SEC team they played. given that happened 2 years ago, under the current head coach and not 40 years ago, it holds more weight. But that doesn't fit your narrative.
