Looks like WS at least played Elder close, but unable to even take a game bodes well for the Panthers. Lakota East handling what is expected to be one of the better D2 teams is also a somewhat surprising result

Moeller 2/st x 3. rowdy start to the season for both sides. St. X OH ben pung making a statement out there. questionable lineup decisions from the big moe, surprised luers isn't running a 5-1.

Seems like Pung would be a (super) early candidate for POY next year as a senior. I saw he had 24 kills last night, 13 digs, 3 blocks and 3 aces. That's quite a stat line.

He's the second best player in the class so that would make sense. Unfortunately not much love is given to the Libero position, or Parker from Beavercreek would be my guy for POY.

Question for you. I believe Parker is playing OH at Beavercreek. For POY are you evaluating his play at his HS position in comparison to others? Or are you evaluating his play and status at his Club position versus others?

Voting on POY or all state/region teams should ONLY be based on the high school season. Club should have ZERO to do with how a coach votes. If a kid can't/doesn't play club that should not be held against them if they have a better high school season than another kid who does.

How much would you take in to consideration Collegiate commitment?

I also don't completely agree with club not playing a factor. Sure it's not fair to the kids who can't/don't play club. But if you're to compare Mikesh to Pung as Outsides for a potential POY, then that's also not fair knowing Pung is better. Now compare Mikesh at Libero to Pung at Outside. Pound for pound Mikesh is a better Libero than Pung is Outside. Just my 2 cents..

Didn't realize he was playing OH, good coaching move for Beavercreek.

I am evaluating this off of most skilled. IMO he is the best passer and defender in the state, and possibly the best setter in the state if he were to set.

Pung is a great all around player, but I can't say that he is the best at any one skill.

By no means am I trying to dis Pung, I enjoy his game and he seems to be a nice kid.

None. If I had a vote, it would go to the player that was the best player during that high school season. Not club season, not a combination of last year and this year, not based on their college potential, or if they are playing in college. The player that had the best 2017 (or if we are comparing Pung and Mikesch, 2018) season. In the end, the winner typically ends up going to the best player on the best team. Sometimes that player is deserving, other times there are 1 or 2 players that in my opinion have deserved it more.

Class year status impact on POY vote

Does a player's class impact POY vote? A couple of posts have mentioned Parker's Junior status putting him in the mix for next years vote. IF Beavercreek made a run to State Final wouldn't he merit a strong POY support? There are really good seniors (Darby and West. South boys, Moe - Luers, Bowles; Elder - Klusman, Witte, Koenig) that will have meaningful impact on the state runs on their teams. But Juniors like Chris Kiser at Moeller and Mikesh at Beavercreek may be more valuable to their teams. Just asking as the last debate was fun. This isn't a debate on the individual players as the ones above are nice kids and solid players.

In a true aspect of the POY, I would agree that it should be the player that has made the most impact for his team on its quest for a state run. It should also be regardless of class, but we all know that this is a political quagmire. Too many agendas and program bias usually clouds these selections.

I agree with this statement. Class should not make a difference, but I'm sure there are coaches with the thought process of, "I'll just vote for them next year." That isn't fair to the younger player because things like injuries, losing the supporting cast, or just getting passed up by other players can happen.

Just my two cents, not sure it's even worth that

Despite being from Cincinnati, even I can see they were the two best players in the state. The thing with voting is that every coach that wants a vote, has a vote. So you have coaches from schools that literally never leave their region having their vote count just as much for the state vote. Of course they are going to vote for the best player they have seen. I'm not sure I can fault them for that. Is there a better solution? Not trying to call out these schools, because there are plenty of examples, but can you tell the coaches from teams like Brunswick, Colerain, Hilliard Bradley, or Hamilton (1 team from each region) that they don't get to vote?

Speaking to last year, being from the same region definitely hurt Dejon and Ian because they probably split some of the votes from coaches in the East region

Not to derail discussion but can you guys move this to another thread. There were about 6 threads regarding POY you can move to. Try to keep this to scores (with sometimes brief analysis) only.
